From Those Who Fabricate Narrations
The Third Issue: The Categories of the Fabricators (of Ḥadīth) (المسألة الثالثة): في أصناف الوضّاعين. Know that the fabricators (of ḥadīth) as mentioned by Ibn ʿIrāq in the introduction of his book Tanzīh al-Sharīʿah are of seven types: اعلم: أن الوضّاعين على ما ذكره ابن عراق رحمه اللهُ تعالى في مقدّمة كتابه "تنزيه الشريعة" سبعة أصناف: The first type are the zanādiqah (heretics) who are foremost in this; it is their disdain for the religion that causes them to fabricate ḥadīth and deceive the Muslims. [الصنف الأول]: هم الزنادقة، وهم السابقون إلى ذلك، والهاجمون عليه، حملهم على الوضع الاستخفاف بالدين، والتلبيس على المسلمين. Muḥammad b.
