Honestly, Ziyal/Lal is the best fucking thing to happen.

“The way I feelwhen I’m with you…” Lal pauses, tries to compose herself."Ziyal, I've never felt this way about anyone before."

They're standingnear the Enterprise's airlock, just out of the way and out ofearshot.

"You don't haveto go," Ziyal says, taking Lal's hand. "I'm sure myfather--"

"It's too muchto ask," Lal says softly. But she doesn't pull her hand away. Ifanything, she grips Ziyal's hand tighter. "There is so much Idon't know still."

Ziyal nods slowly,understanding. She sighs and leans in to kiss Lal, just gently.

"Lal."

Lal turns, not quitein fear. "Father."

Data looks at hisdaughter, then at Ziyal, looking at the way their hands are clasped.Then it clicks. "You would like to stay."

"More thananything," Lal says.

"I would haveto make some arrangements," Data warns her. "And, ifanything were to go wrong—"

Ziyal says, "Icould take care of her."

Data blinks, thennods. "Lal, I do want you to update me at least every month. Youknow the subspace frequency."

"Yes, father,"Lal says. She turns, smiling at Ziyal. "I can stay."

"You can stay!"Ziyal's beaming at Lal, her other hand cupping Lal's cheek.
