- I always imagine that zoro thinks luffy not at at his level of crazy devotion
- I feel he just assumes Luffy not as in love with him as he is with Luffy
- which probably makes the jealousy he feels worse
- he knows Luffy loves him/cares about him/would risk his life for him
- but I feel zoro still insecure, doesn’t realize just how much crazy in love Luffy is with him
- everyone on the crew always jokes zoro the rabid guard dog when it comes to luffy, zoro goes feral over luffy , zoro is whipped when it comes to luffy
-and zoro just rolls his eyes, pretends to act annoyed at the jokes
- but i think it would make him sad that they never joke about Luffy being crazy about him like that too, and that makes him start to wonder maybe Luffy doesn’t love him as much as he loves him
-and he’s still crazy about Luffy, he’s still at the crazy level of love, he doesn’t bring it up to Luffy or get mad at Luffy for it
-he tells himself Luffy won’t ever be at the level of devotion as he is and he’s accepted it
- zoro just probably considers himself lucky for having luffy love him, even if it’s not as much as he loves luffy
-and imagine there’s a battle and zoro gets injured trying to protect luffy and he remembers passing out and when he wakes up he’s back on the ship, in the infirmary
- and everyone acting so somber/so off that he worries for a bit if Luffy actually died
- and he sees Luffy done, everyone fine, he wonders why everyone acting off and like they lost
- everyone brushes it off, chopper keeps insisting on checking him over, keeps asking him how’s he’s feeling
- zoro feels off but doesn’t know what exactly is wrong so he just lies and insists he’s fine
- no one talks about the battle or how they won
- after feeling like there’s a secret everyone keeping from him he goes to Usopp to demand some answers
-why the crew acting so weird around him, why is Luffy acting weird around him
- Usopp explains what happened in the battle
-zoro didn’t just pass out he died, he was dead
-Luffy went crazy/freaked out, in gear 5 mode (this is the “cartoon logic” coming into play) he ripped open the sky (heaven ) looking for Zoro soul and kept screaming zoro not allowed to leave him/not allowed to die
-Luffy found zoro “soul” and basically stuffed it back into zoro lifeless body all the time still screaming/crying zoro not allowed to leave him
- the crew obviously got freaked out about zoro dying and coming back to life, and Luffy going insane for a bit
- idk how zoro would feel initially, maybe a mix of emotions
- but ending scene I think he’s be happy/glad that there’s proof now that Luffy is just as crazy/obsessed about him as he is with Luffy
Food-wise: Meat/Beer (depending on your culture, but predominantly in Asia, Beer is best paired with meat)
Demeanor/Personality:
Bright/Dark - Luffy is a literal sunshine y'all got this; Zoro is pretty apathetic and he's practically always associated with the devil.
Carefree/Rigid - Luffy is the former for obvious reasons, he's very quick to act on what he wants to do, almost without regard in most cases (endearing 🥹♥️); and Zoro, has quite a rigid personality (imo) which is why he matches Luffy so well, the guy just makes him do things he usually wouldn't do because– love and loyalty, that's why.
Comical/serious - at this point, we all know Luffy is the dorkiest lil cutie in the verse 😩; Zoro has become really serious now though, in the early arcs, the guy was pretty generous with his emotions but as the story progressed he really has taken his role (in the crew, with Luffy, and his dream) really seriously. And I also feel like, he compensates for Luffy's lack of that, just 'cause he knows when shit does get real, his captain would, so when he doesn't, it's his responsibility to maintain the brand 😤👏
Curious/selectively indifferent - Luffy is adventurous, we all know that, it's what makes him adorable, and we wouldn't be having all this amazing adventures with the whole crew if it weren't for his curious nature 🥹💞; Zoro is indifferent to a lot of things if it doesn't concern his interests (swords, Luffy, beer, the crew, his captain (hehe) )
In a lot of ways, Zoro is the enzyme to Luffy's substrate (cause he's as is 😆). There's still a lot of words I could use but they're basically variations of what I just mentioned above. All in all, I really love their partnership, and if I'm being honest, I stuck to One Piece 20% because of them, 50% for the story, and 30% for the characters in general. Oda is truly a madman for creating such a masterpiece, I love that dude.
- I love the fics where zoro and luffy been secretly married and the crew doesn’t know till way after
- I wanna read more fics where they just get married a bunch of times
- the first one is just the two of them,
- next time after Nami joins, she makes a joke about them just acting like a married couple and zoro and luffy get married again ( they pretend it’s the first time because luffy thinks it’ll make her feel more included)
- each time a new crew member joins they get married “for the first time” again because that crew member inevitably makes a joke/comment about how they should just get married already
- Luffy thinks it’ll make the crew member feel special if they think they were at their “first wedding”
- each time the crew saves a kingdom, they get a wedding thrown for zoro & luffy
- when the crew defeats crocodile , vivi insists on it out of gratitude
- after that nami just drops heavy hints to the other princesses/kingdoms they save that it’ll be a great way to repay them, nami just wants the wedding gifts
- each “new guest” at their wedding always thinks it’s their first time getting married, and the guest is always so honored to be included
- after the wedding in Wano, the crew talking amongst themselves about it, Nami makes a comment it’s her favorite wedding yet, the gifts were really expensive
- Usopp says he still enjoyed their first wedding the most and comments about the weather being perfect/ the food being amazing
- chopper gets confused and says the wedding was indoors (kureha castle) because it was snowing
- Sanji also gets confused ( the food Usopp described isn’t the food he made for the “first wedding” at the Baratie)
- the crew all slowly puts together none of them actually weren’t at their “first wedding” either
- emotions range from sad to pissed
- Nami the only one who tries to defend Luffy & zoro at first
- until she realizes she wasn’t at their first wedding either
- she’s the one who gets the most pissed
🤭I just think it’ll be so funny if they keep getting married and pretending it’s always their first one. Idk if anyone ever watched the tv show Frasier, but Daphne and Niles end up doing this in one episode.
I love how soft Zoro is in a lot of Zolu fanfics. He’s always so in love with Luffy. So protective of him. So devoted and loyal. He has all the green flag qualities. It’s just a sweet and caring ship.
In fics with more explicit scenes he’s focused a lot on Luffy pleasure. Making sure he enjoys it, that they’re going at a pace Luffys comfortable with.
Zoro just so in love with Luffy. And I love the fics that go deep in that direction. It’s just so lovely to read.
- Zoro understood his feelings first, didn’t act on them, didn’t deny them. Just told himself to focus on achieving his (and Luffys) dream first
-Luffy realizes his feelings after the time skip. He’s happy to see Zoro and then starts feeling weird. His chest hurts always when he’s staring at zoro. He keeps feeling flustered and anxious. He can’t sleep throughout the night. All his dreams involve zoro and he doesn’t understand them
-Zoro has to be the one to explain to Luffy that they’re in love. (Luffy thought he was dying/sick at first)
-Luffy loves the simple physical contact ( hugging, sleeping next to each other ) gets overwhelmed by the more intimate ones (kissing) due to sensory issues
- zoro is patient and takes it at Luffy speed/comfort level
- one thing I love about the ship is it’s so wholesome and just free of internal conflict. They love each other, they’re both devoted to each other. There’s never a doubt of loyalty. There’s never a doubt of love. It’s pure and wholesome and just sweet.
- from the start they were both devoted and crazy about each other.
- I get the appeal of ships like zoro/sanji and luffy/killer where they’d be more internal conflict. More fighting in the relationship,
- but for wholesome relationships, where it’s just obvious they were meant to be, I think Zolu is perfect
- zoro always the “serious” one, he gets a lot less goofing off scenes now
- he’s the “bad guy” in some situations when it’s called for ( he was the one insisting Usopp needs to ask for forgiveness, )
- when the rest of crew was worried about vivi ( after reading about her dad getting killed in newspaper) he’s the one that said she’s capable/can handle herself, didn’t need to be rescued
- a lot of his scenes are more cold, I always see fans wish he’d laugh more or that they miss pre-ts zoro
- and I do see the difference too, zoro has to be a lot tougher cuz the stakes are higher
-he pushes himself a lot more and there’s been scenes where he does tell Luffy he needs to act more like a captain, questions his decisions
- and it’s not out of disloyalty , he really loves Luffy and wants him to be safe and fulfill his dream
- and I think zoro forces himself to be “the serious - no fun guy” because he’s convinced that’s what Luffy needs
- and I think sometimes he gets sad about it
- part of him wants to be more carefree and goofing off with Luffy more but then he talks himself into training more, getting stronger, being productive with his time
- I imagine situations where there docked on an island and Luffy wants to go exploring, look for bugs, and “old zoro “ would have said yes, “old zoro” would have wasted a whole day doing something stupid like looking for bugs
- this zoro, wont waste a day on “stupid” things when he can spend the day training, getting stronger, being better,
- this zoro chastise luffy for not taking things seriously and goofing off
- and it’s out of love, because zoro feels guilty for not being there at marine ford, zoro feels guilty for not being strong enough at Sabaody, zoro feels guilty the crew got separated in the first place
- snd he probably places the blame on himself a lot, if he was stronger it wouldn’t have happened, if he was stronger he could’ve been there for Luffy sooner, if he was stronger Luffy wouldn’t have to deal with Ace alone
- he’s more wary of outsiders, X Drake, even when Luffy wasn’t
- I just imagine scenarios where Luffy would first come to him for stupid stuff like doing pranks, doing shenanigans, making something stupid like a slingshot but for like fun things (not like a weapon just to like throw water balloons something silly)
- and zoro says no, he has to train, zoro maybe even chastises him a little, zoro talks about this is the grand line , it’s different, everyone needs to be more focused ,
- and it’s out of love, it’s out of concern
- he doesn’t ever wanna be “weak” again and fail his captain
- so he pushes himself more
- and maybe then Luffy stops asking him since Zoro always says no and goes to Usopp or chopper and they indulge him
- and zoro notices but he doesn’t say anything cuz he still focused on training and getting stronger
- even though it hurts him alot, because he wants to be silly, he wants to just goof off sometimes too, but he has nightmares about Marine ford even though he wasn’t there
- he has nightmares about Luffy having to deal with Ace death alone because he (zoro) wasn’t there for him when he should have been
- Luffy went through a lot of pain and heart ache without zoro by his side
- and zoro always blames himself and still thinks if he spent more time training, less days goofing off, if he did more of this he would have been able to keep the crew together, he would have been able to help Luffy, he would have been there for Luffy
- so even though he wants to goof off with Luffy and do stupid stuff with him he forces himself to train
- and I always see fan comment on zoro being no fun or being more mean but I don’t think he wants to be mean, it’s just he’s afraid of being carefree/chill guy because he thinks the old him as weak and a failure
- I think it’d be interesting to explore more in fics, where there still a couple but Luffy ends up going more to Usopp or chopped for pulling pranks
- and zoro feels hurt about it but doesn’t know how to express it
