Platter Fest @ Zaffran, Mumbai
What’s cooler than a Sunday brunch? A Saturday brunch, of course! That’s why Zomato Gold hosted a Saturday brunch for 40 Gold members at Zaffran, Mumbai.
The brunch offered a splendid 4-course meal with unique, colourful and mouth-watering platters for guests. Why stick to just one dish, when you can taste them all - this is the beauty of platters!

The brunch started with a welcome beverage on the house. The guests were then served a Starter Platter, Sorbet Platter, Main Course Platter and a Dessert Platter, all of these included the best of the Indian and Mughlai cuisine with the tikkas and kebabs stealing the show.
Time for some Trivia
Folks at Zaffran hosted a Trivia-Quiz to check the foodie-quotient of the guests. There were a whopping 15 quiz winners. Zomato Gold members proving yet again that they’re the town’s true foodies! The winners all won discount coupons from Zaffran.

Mumbai’s First Beer Cocktail Brunch @ Tipsy Gypsy
Mumbai woke up to its first Beer Cocktail Brunch this March at Tipsy Gypsy, Mumbai where Zomato Gold members got a chance to try and learn how to create these potent drinks. Mixology, anyone? The bartender added vodka and whisky to beer and prepared some amazing concoctions.
Is beer your poison of choice? Can you drink beer no matter the time or meal? Do you measure drinks in pitchers? If the answer is yes, yes and yes, then we hosted an event just for you!
The gold members were welcomed with complimentary shots called Palangtod - a pan flavoured drink which they later learned how to make.
Where there is beer, there is chakna, obviously. Freaky Fries, Ghost Busters, Mezze Merizers, and much more was ordered. Since it was a Gold event, members could avail 1+1 on all the dishes on the menu too!
Who doesn’t love drinking games? To make things fun, we ended up playing the viral game Flip the Cup and Rolling Ball. In a battle of the sexes for Flip the Cup, it was team ladies that took home win along with Zomato goodies, food and drink vouchers from Tipsy Gypsy and bragging rights!
An event is only as good as the people who attend it and thanks to all the wonderful Zomato Gold members in Mumbai, this Sunday Brunch was extremely high spirited!

A cocktail of an evening
Channeling Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible (1996) might be a tall order but channeling Tom Cruise as a bartender in the classic Cocktail (1988) was an order Zomato served its users recently—shaken, stirred, and on the rocks all in one evening.

When we met foodies from Zomato Mumbai at Boveda, we knew the event was going to be tipsy (in a nice way, of course). Boveda hosted us for a “Make your own Cocktail” night followed by some great food and an added bonus of Karaoke as well. The make-your-own-cocktail thingie definitely gave everyone a chance to learn about how the bar staff delivers such amazing signature drinks to their customers night after night after night. Each guest got to choose his or her drink and then got to create it by carefully being guided by the head bartender of Boveda.
Bartending techniques, like the right way of shaking the mixer or the proper way to muddle the ingredients, were just a few of the takeaways that help in creating an awesome drink. The bar menu for the night consisted of BVD (a bourbon infused lemon drink), Smoke Screen, Water Melon Burst but Cheesecake Martini was easily the biggest highlight of the night. It was a perfect blend between a dessert and a cocktail.
The Smoke Screen, true to its word, offered our guests the theatrics that go in preparing a drink like this. The use of liquid nitrogen creates the smoke around the border of the vermouth and cranberry drink giving it a frosty look and feel with every sip. As the bartending continued, we got to taste an array of appetizers, which ranged from vodka tangy prawns, spiced honey mustard wings, tossed spiced mushrooms and few others.
Amongst the appetizers, the Cottage Cheese Picata (which was served in shot glasses) was super. Similarly, food in shot glasses are always welcome as bite-sized food is clearly becoming a popular trend amongst tapas style cuisine and this dish was right up that alley. This was followed with some tasteful Italian inspired main course dishes—all made to order for each guest. These included a traditional Margherita pizza, Aglio olio e pepperoncini (spaghetti-veg), Parmesan crusted chicken and lemon butter garlic grilled fish.
All dishes were classic examples of how simple ingredients make a great dish. Lucky for our crew in between our courses, the group got in the mood to start with Karaoke that Boveda has on Wednesday nights. Since it was #ZomatoMeetup the idea was to sing songs with a food theme. Not easy to find songs with such a theme but we were still able get our singing on to songs like Lemon Tree, Sugar, Banana Pancakes and American Pie.
The night ended on a sweet note with Chocolava and chocolate tart tasting which clearly was a perfect ending to an awesome evening. The chocolate tart was really well received and the tart was topped with whiskey walnuts, which gave the right amount of crunch in between the smooth chocolate ganache finish of the tart.
The Zomato meetup at Boveda was clearly an attempt to set the bar (pun intended) high for #ZomatoMeetup and it clearly did that!
