A dry shave is never comfortable, but Samuel can’t afford to spare the water; staring into the broken piece of mirror propped up against the wall, he carefully dabs at the small spots of blood which are slowly forming along the line of his jaw and decides not to bother continuing. In truth it’s a timely reminder that he should head down to the Oconee river soon, to re-stock his supply and wash some of his clothes.
He is buttoning his shirt where he hears it; the distinct clatter of one of the empty cans he has strung up around the area, an intricate web that is difficult to avoid, an early warning system that detects both the living and the dead. When the line doesn’t continue to clatter and clang, Samuel takes it as a sure sign it was not triggered by a walker and instead, it is more likely that someone living has disturbed it.
Admittedlt it has been months since he last encountered anyone alive, the town of Dublin, Georgia is small and its supplies few, mostly because Samuel has already stockpiled all of what was left. The last man he encountered in a nearby town, spoke briefly to him about groups of survivors, factions who have formed and now appear at war with one another. Is it possible they have ventured from their own territory? Admittedly it’s a disturbing thought, as a former Navy SEAL Samuel has seen enough war to last him a lifetime. The idea is a tragic one; that when faced with an enemy that so greatly outnumbers them, what little humans are left have still somehow managed to turn upon each other.
Grabbing his revolver and shotgun, Samuel quickly hurries to the window of the Military College building, knowing he can see most of the town from this height. What he is presented with is a calm view of empty sun baked streets with no obvious signs of the living nor the dead.
After descending the stairs, he alights onto the street and immediately slides up the side of the building, using his special forces training to move in a way that makes him both swift and difficult to detect, even in such bright light. He has fuel, food and motorcycles in the basement of this building and he needs to ensure they remain protected.
God they hate being filthy. It sucks. So a lot of the time its washing their face and hair in sinks while the other keeps each and always wiping dirt smudges off each other. When they find a genuine good bathroom??? Close quiet showers together because they need to be quiet and boys leaning against each other in the noisy intimacy yet.
Sal initially hates his newer form, but Rhys? Wrapping his arms around and smooching Sal at every chance. Likes trailing a finger through it since the matter feels....funny. Also passing time by drawing stuff into your Beefriend's back is great despite what Sal says.
Rhys....god Sal is horny for how powerful he is now. Rhys does some amazing trick with his shadows??? He can hear Sal buzzing behind him and you Know this boy is smug af because at the end of the world? He got Sal and he's more impressive when being rich is basically bullshit now.
The boys can't wear what they like so now it's often big sweaters and jackets to try and cover flesh as well as many pockets to hold stuff. Sal hates it. He looks like a goth marshmallow and people would be right to assume he was dating Rhys.
They're....fifty fifty on killing zombies. They're fucking shit at it at first but soon?? Oh man, they're smooth!! They're fast! Often nights are spent sitting close together and chatting about nothing and everything while eating whatever they could savage.
I need to pay respects to the fact that I did mention once they find a kid and argue over them so. Them arguing and Sal looses when Rhys tells him to "Go make some honey Bee Boy." And now they lug about a kid and Sal hates it because he isn't a grandpa like Rhys and also how are they meant to kiss without being watched by a brat???? Huffy baby who pushes his face into Rhys's much longer hair and just closes his eyes and listens out for the next subtle heartbeats of zombies.
The sun burned his eyes as Shane peered through the sullen glass of his cabin. Everyone was floating about like busy little bees doing his father's bidding. Shane Porter spent most of his life trying to impress the father that never really wanted him. Crispin once even told Shane his childhood was the reason for his vasectomy. In his teen years, Shane realized the pleasure he got from making his father look bad and even today, at worlds end the younger Porter made every effort to push the leader of their community to his breaking point.
Shane, simply put, did not care. He did not have a desire to please his father and even less of a desire to play nice with that oaf, Lucas. It pissed Shane off to no end that Daddy let Lucas have free reign of the place - more precisely first choice of all the new beaver - and not his own child. Shane was proof that Crispin wasn't a liar even though the old man was lying through his bloody fucking teeth.
Nevertheless, he loved getting to fuck with people and actually enjoyed playing the part of the dutiful son. Shane was a great actor, even though Crispin hardly ever gave him credit. Honestly, he should be getting rewarded for simply not spilling the beans that Crispin Porter was nothing more than a power hungry sex fiend. That trait was certainly something passed down through the gene pool. When he saw Harper drifting across the quad area heading to the orchard his spirits lifted. Lucas made it very clear that she was HIS fuck toy and that meant hands off. For Shane that was just an open invitation to find out for himself what the fuss was all about.
Pulling on his boots he set out a round-about route toward the orchard making sure the two were truly alone before making any sort of move. Lucas was out hunting so he'd be gone a while, and if Shane were lucky, perhaps even devoured by the undead. Watching her check the crop he stepped out from behind her, "How are they looking. You ever farm before all this or are you just playing your part as well?"
[Hotshot, Dirt Boss and Alexis is in a bathroom on the train, Dirt Boss had thrown his phone so they could use it as a distraction to get passed the infected while going through a tunnel and made it to the said bathroom]
Hotshot: Why is your ringtone so tacky? [Is hitting the end call button on his phone]
Alexis: [is rolling her eyes and elbows the other]
Dirt Boss: What’s wrong with it? [Pauses for a few seconds] How do I change it?
World Info: The zombie breakout has begun, and it’s everybody for themselves. The world is at the brink of destruction, and there doesn’t seem to be any hope anymore. The only thing left is to survive until your day has come, and that’s just what they plan to do. Even with resources to possibly build a cure, they have no hope of making enough to stop the outbreak. The only thing they can do is live day by day, trying to hold onto their humanity that’s dangling by a thread.
It’s a very modern and very cliche zombie apocalypse story. The real meat of it is going to be my characters and their journey. The relationships they make and their struggles in the lives that they must live now. It’s still a work in progress, but I have general ideas about my ocs!
Ocs:
Leonard
Him and my character fall in love over time, though it’s actually pretty fast by normal standards. They grew close together over the course of a couple of months, the two of them finding that they just click together perfectly.
I call him Leo from the very first day that we met. I feel that it suits him better, and he was flustered by that fact alone and agreed. Shortly after, he decided that was what he’d go by now. Practically putting his life behind him.
He’s a very intelligent scientist who was sent down with a group to aid those that needed it in infected areas. Little did they know that they would be left behind, not allowed to return and left on their own. Once his group went crazy and began killing each other, he was forced to leave and find his own way.
He’s a bit of a goof and a dork, not to mention socially awkward. It takes a bit for people to warm up to him. He gets himself into a lot of trouble because he’s not very brave, and I do save him a couple of times.
Is very fascinated by zombies, and knows a lot about them. Even about the different types and what they do. Which is why a lot of people wonder if he had more to do with all this than he’s letting on.
Over time he grows a thicker skin, learning how to protect himself and wanting to protect me more than anything. He becomes a great asset to my group once we find him, helping us in the battle for a cure.
Naomi
She is Mick’s adopted sister and they are extremely close. She would die for him in a second, and has made that known on many occasions. That being said, she is also pretty protective of him, similar to how he is with her.
Doesn’t take too kindly to those with big egos, which is why she is quick to shut people down when they get cocky. She’s very upfront about her feelings, and makes it very clear when she is displeased with an individual or situation.
The apocalypse has made her more frigid than she had wanted to become, but after watching her family be devoured and turned, she doesn’t seem to wan to get close to anyone else.
Tends to play the leader roll, though is easy to back down whenever Mick steps up. She knows when to pick her battles, but sometimes she lets her emotions get the best of her. She feels a little too much than people realize, since she doesn’t let it show on the surface very often.
Mick
A very upfront and friendly guy, though he is pretty strong. He is also very protective of his group, but his sister will always be his top priority. Loves knowing that he is doing whatever he can to protect her and the others.
Has a soft spot for the younger ones in the community, and will be quick to save anyone that seems a bit weaker. Likes to be the hero.
Is friends with Ashley to a degree, the two of them currently not talking after an altercation with Aaron and Naomi.
Knows a thing or two about survival and is very smart combat. He’s a very big asset in a fight, and has taken down a lot of looter almost by himself.
He’s very sweet and kind, and is quite the opposite of Naomi in terms of getting close to people. He believes that it’s an important part of survival and keeping his humanity.
Aaron
She’s a very sarcastic and rigid soul, keeping to herself and not letting anyone in. She doesn’t trust very easily, mainly because of a lot of things that happened in her past. Though, once she trusts someone she will be very loyal to them, even though it doesn’t seem that way.
Is very close friends with Ashley, though they didn’t always start off that way. They found each other before they came across the gated community they now live in. The two of them argued a lot, her not wanting to trust Ashley at first.
She has a blinding distrust for Naomi. The two of them argue a lot, and she doesn’t seem to like her always trying to take charge. But she deals with it, mainly because she doesn’t want to get on Mick’s bad side. He’s one of the reasons that she’s still alive, after all.
Has a bit of a temper, though keeps it more under control than it was. Knows when to put her attitude in check, and even though it doesn’t seem like it, she does care. It’s just hard to crack the hard shell of hers.
Rufus
One of the oldest in the community, but he’s also the wisest. Can sometimes be a little bit of a jokester at times, but knows when to take things serious. Really is the comic relief at times.
Is typically the one to keep the peace a lot of the time, and since people tend to listen to him it’s pretty easy. The only times that it doesn’t work is with either Aaron or a few of the younger males.
He’s a pretty easy going guy, though he can be a bit odd at times. A few people have called dubbed him the creepy old man for his habit of dark/morbid jokes.
Used to be in the army, so he has a knowledge of combat but his age overwhelms him at times. Though, he’s still an asset behind the lines and with a shotgun, which is his specialty.
Kay had been sitting in her tree house far to long, nearly a day or two, alone by her own thoughts wasn’t really.. A good thing for her, picking up an empty bag she found and grabbing her bat before quickly down the tree, the lump in her throat didn’t feel like it was gonna leave anytime soon. The empty bag hanging from her side as the bloodstained bat was held tightly in her hands.
Her steps were quick and quiet as one could, already seeing walking corpses popping up here and there, more people must had turned or these fuckers are coming to the area from somewhere else. Any that came near her got a caved in skull, and a mumbled sorry.
She decided that being in the neighborhood wasn’t a good place to get supplies anymore, she been all over it and probably cleaned it all out anyways, so she needed to head towards the busy area, where most zombies are probably at. She quickly headed to the closest store and looked around the outside real quick before heading inside.
She looked at the corpses that laid on the ground, already killed by someone else who came here. She was walking down the store’s aisles till, she heard someone’s foots steps, becoming real quiet now as she looked over the corner of the aisle she was in, seeing the person there, checking something out.
It had been a little over a week since she’d come to Sanctuary, and Olivia was already in trouble.
It had been good so far. With her past as a nurse, she’d been posted in the infirmary. It was damn well better than foraging and half-starving on her own. She’d considered it a lucky break when the Saviors found her holed up in an abandoned Starbucks and nearly out of food.
The infirmary had been good for her, she didn’t mind the work, and it was more than fair in trade for safety, food, and shelter. The only complaints she had were that her bedside manner left a lot to be desired, but she figured that if there was any time to be a sarcastic bitch to those who deserved it, it was during the apocalypse when she couldn’t get fired.
She had yet to meet the infamous Negan officially. She’d seen him a time or two from a distance, tall and handsome and intimidating. And she’d made eye contact exactly once, peeking up through her hair as she knelt with a few others. He’d caught her looking as he passed, and the toothy grin he gave her had been on her mind ever since.
The problems started when a run brought back a boatload of pain pills. She had expected that to get some attention and it had, with every third person coming in trying to convince her they needed opiates. She’d put everyone off fairly handily, but Tim just wouldn’t be deterred.
She’d worked in a hospital and she knew when someone just wanted pills for recreational use. Tim’s ear had been shot off in some conflict or another, and she had no doubt it wasn’t pleasant, but he hadn’t even asked for anything until the rumor got around that there were pills to be had. Since then, every time she turned around he was badgering her. She suspected it was because she was new.
So she wasn’t particularly surprised when someone yanked her behind a building, and it was him.
She sighed, rolling her eyes. “No,” she told him. “Tim just give it a damn rest.”
He frowned down at her. She was small, he was trying to loom over her and intimidate her. “Be reasonable. I have points, I can get you damn near anything you want. Just a couple pills, I don’t see why you’re being such a bitch about it.”
“Because it’s never just a couple. And there’s going to be people who actually need them. So fuck off. I should have turned you in before now, you ask again and I’m going to Simon. Or--or Negan.” It was a bit of a bluff; she’d never approach Negan himself with such a small matter. But Tim didn’t need to know that.
She never saw his fist coming. It took her in the cheek, so hard she stumbled back, seeing stars. Blood dribbled from her nose immediately and she was so startled she didn’t even make a sound. Tim stepped closer, hand closing on her shirt.
“Who do you think Negan would believe? I’ve been here a long damn time, I’m trusted. New meat like you? All I’d have to do is tell him you’re lying.” He slammed his fist into her gut, wrenching a cry from her, and let her drop to all fours, gasping for breath.
It was likely the cry of pain that caught Negan’s attention, and the scene before him as he rounded the building was Olivia on hands and knees, nose dripping blood, and Tim about to drive a steel-toed boot into her ribs.
Olivia thought she was saved. Until Tim caught sight of Negan and smiled. “Sir, I was just about to go find you,” he said. He was so casual and confident, even she was surprised and uncertain. He sounded like he had every confidence in the world that he could justify his actions. She was suddenly very, very worried about what he was going to say.
OOC: How would you portray Harley in a 'Walking Dead' or '28 Days Later' sort of universe?
//For sure she would begin by hiding out somewhere and keeping her loved ones safe. She wouldn’t go looking for other people until it was absolutely necessary.
And I think that although Harley’s usually drawn to the crazy or violent type of people in her everyday life once zombies started showing up she’d be more likely to get into a survivor group like Rick’s rather than The Governor or Negan. She already has such horrible hallucinations, she would need more grounded people to help her out of those delusions and help her rather than use her. But if she couldn’t find a group that would accept her Harley would be fine living on her own also.
