Lestat was saying something. She couldn’t make out his words over the pounding of her heartbeat, sounding like a muffled sentence under water. It didn’t feel like instructions. Maybe she could ask him to repeat himself.

The next time Lestat was near Gotham it was Harley’s turn to pick the activities for the night and after a quick bite to eat for her and an evil doer to drink for him Harley brought Lestat to the Gotham Aquarium.

She had asked small questions to make sure it was something he would enjoy. Do you like animals? What about fish? Are you afraid of deep water? What about breaking and entering? Do ya have pants that you can bend in? Do ya need a flashlight? I’m gonna take flashlights.

Nothing too specific.

They had wandered hand in hand through the empty halls, taking a few minutes at each exhibit before moving on to the next. Their lights bobbed with each step as they got closer and closer to the main exhibit. Harley was getting giddy, her heartbeat speeding and giggles bubbling in her throat.

When they turned the corner into the showroom Harley gasped. The glass wall seemed much bigger when it was only the two of them to see it. They didn’t even need the flashlights with the moon shining into the water from above.

Lestat seemed to be just as excited as Harley as they ran to stand a few feet from the glass. It was hard for her to choose between watching the fish swimming lazily behind the glass or watching Lestat’s face change with joy and wonder with the moonlight shining through the water.

As the Sunfish came into view they both squeezed the other’s hand with excitement. “Look!” They whispered and pointed at the giant creature in unison.

She didn’t know how long they stood there watching the fish getting closer and closer until it was close enough to touch if it weren’t for the glass keeping them separated. But it felt like it wasn’t long enough.

Harley wrapped her other hand around Lestat’s arm and laid her head against his shoulder with a smile. “Are ya talkin’ to me or the fish?” She whispered with a wide smile and giggled before standing on tip toes and kissing his cheek.

“Then let’s stay together all night. We can go back to your bus before ya have to sleep and spend the rest of the time together until the coffin drags ya away from me.”

Was that too mushy? Probably.
