Know that there are things you just cannot love away. You cannot love away cancer. You cannot love away depression. You cannot love away cells turning against other cells, regardless of the amount of overflowing love that starts at your toes and ends to the point in time when the universe is born. I want you to know that love is not a cure. It is not surgery, it is not fluoxetine, because sometimes not even these things cure. Love, however, is a hammock. Sways you back and forth, lifts you a few feet off the ground. Lulls you to sleep. Makes you forget about things sometimes. Love is a railing at the side of a staircase. Something to hold onto when your feet is ready to take the steps. Love is that single piece of music that makes you think Maybe this is what the universe sounds like. Write about love with the full knowledge that it doesn't cure. It heals.
