her name’s rose, she was raised solo by her mother santana until she was nine when they both made their way to malvado’s bunker to find seth after their community fell. seth knew she was his the moment he looked at her and it scared the living shit out of him. she’s an absolute scrapper ! she takes after her father with a short temper and pride for miles, she’s stubborn as hell but curious and creative and damn clever, she’s a nimble little fucker and isn’t afraid to tell people exactly what’s up, especially if it’s her dad. she’s tough as nails, a survivor but she also has her moments of being soft, especially with friendly animals and other kids. she’s stupid protective over other kids, has a big sweet tooth, gets distracted by shiny, colourful and pretty things, likes painting and drawing and carries a case of colouring pencils with her everywhere. she doodles on every single surface she comes into contact with and can be a smartass too.

she’s bilingual, spanish and english, she’s adopted some of seth’s vocab but usually only uses it on her dad. she doesn’t like lying but thinks hiding the truth doesn’t count. her curiosity can make her seem a little insensitive sometimes because she’ll just ask questions whenever and is ridiculously blunt and honest. she’s afraid of thunderstorms, hides shivs and other small knives or pointy objects in all her pockets. seth taught her how to pick locks, hot wire cars and boost equipment. little teachable moments that helped create trust and something like a bond until the bunker fell and they were forced to go on the road.

that’s when they really got close. it’s also when seth had to teach her how to kill walkers and how to fight properly rather than just being able to smack people really hard. despite teaching her how to fight, kill walkers and defend herself, seth rarely lets her go up against the living and has tried to shelter her as best he can from the uglier parts of their world.

when el rey is finally established, rose forces him to take her out into the outlands by almost sneaking out of el rey. seth figured that if he went with her then at least he would be there to watch out for her.

bound to burden by words, he’s sealed her fate.  a good person is what she’s always tried to be, but she knows she’s fallen short plenty of times. especially when it comes to those she finds  now, and those of which she can’t hide from his sight. if he knew about diego, he’d  definitely  show his face. it’d be irrational, cruel, relentless --  unforgiving.  scarecrow’s confidence in himself is strong, but he’s also possessive.  (  part of the reason ariel had to die.  )  

    she’s  torn.  her heart, the nature of  who she is,  all tells her that he’s worthy of her putting effort into. her heart tells her to say it back, return the true sentiment, but her heart has led her astray far too much. her romantic endeavor with the man once known as  ████████  is evidence enough of that. moonlight illuminates her features, casting shadows, and she stands from her crouched position to look at him through thick lashes.  ❝ you shouldn’t trust  anyone. ❞  it’s true. that’s what her pop-pop  (  grandpa  )   always said.  but it’s hypocritical because she definitely  trusts  lukas, and it’s looking more and more like she might trust the guy in front of her, too. she vows to never let anyone down, to take care of whomever she can, and that promise was already set in stone for him, no words needed. but now? now she has to  make sure  she doesn’t do wrong by him. trust isn’t something she takes lightly. because it’s not something she easily gives away, either.  

since they first met she’s been short with him, not telling him  everything, just giving vague descriptions. she isn’t going to say she trusts him back, but in her own way, she will show him that she  is  on the path to it... she just needs  time. how will she show it? by offering something more than a comment in passing, something  substantial.   ❝ scarecrow. he’s our leader. ❞  and her  lover, but she’ll leave that out.  ❝ and i want you to put down your macho-man moves for a minute and  listen. you walking away-- you  leaving?  that’s not cowardly. it’s  smart. ❞  she has yet to see someone who hasn’t been effected by his mind games. there’s a pause, her gaze falling to the ground, and she watches him in her peripheral as her head lifts, makes another one of her passing comments while she starts to lead them on their trail again,  ❝ -- and i don’t want anything to happen to you. or your people. ❞

             she could have H A N D L E D it. had been on the verge of doing so ( the knife tucked up her sleeve is digging into her hand ). but her kids were watching and she had already done so M U C H to scar their little minds in such a short period of time. so she backs down and appears W E A K for half a second. and the men fight it out at her F E E T. until the one gets tugged away by his friends and she’s left with her two children gripping her middle and her leg. and a bruised man. his face looks like it aches and she dares to A S K if it does; a motherly touch reaching out to turn his head gently this way and that. “ i’m sorry. i could have . . . figured something out. you didn’t need to step in. ” but he had and it was over and she couldn’t C H A N G E it. “ but thank you. that man and his friends . . . they’ll cause more problems after this. ”

     death  advances  slowly,  like  the  smoke  on  the  horizon.  the  clasp  in  her  heart  is  ironclad  --  steeled  against  the  eventual  demise.  it   had  been  like  this  before.  when  her  brother,  when  her  mother.  her  blood  RACES  through  her  veins  as  she  leaves  their  house.  find  them,  find  them  and  then  run.  they  can  do  it  again,  and  Sadie  isn’t  sure  she  could  endure  another  loss.  not  another  one.  their  family  is  so  small  now  --  just  Theo  and  their  father.  charging  headstrong  into  the  din  of  chaos,  she  feels  like  she’s spinning.  calling  out  her  brother’s  name,  calling  out  for  her  father,  all  she’s answered  with  is  screams;  with  gunfire  and  the  moaning  of  the  DEAD.  she  sees  a  figure  and  for  a  moment  her  breathing  stops.  but  she  feels  the  weight  of  ten  thousand  bricks  fall  on  her  almost  bringing  her  through  the  earth.  it’s  neither  brother  nor  father.  and  still,  she  runs  forward  into  the  danger.

They were freezing; sub-zero temperatures and a blizzard raged outside, keeping them all trapped indoors together huddled around one fireplace. There were a good dozen or more of them, just barely enough blankets to go around, and very little patience. Already she’d had to call down a couple of people for snapping at each other. Tempers were short when things became stressed; Lorna got that – understood that – but taking it out on each other was only going to make a miserable situation even more miserable.

“Hey.” One word and she could see her breath on the air as she dropped down next to Diego and leaned in for some sort of body heat exchanged. All around the room, the others were doing the same. Friends had become closer…even mere acquaintances were closer than they would have ever been had the cold not demanded they leech heat from one another.

“Brought you some coffee.” Gloved hands passed over a steaming cup of instant coffee that she’d just made a mad dash across the icy room to get before it was all gone. Her own cup was clenched tightly in the other hand, pulling the heat from it to keep at least one part of her body warm. “Old lady over there said there hasn’t been a storm like this in decades.” Her head shook, lips parting to sip her coffee. “But she said they’re usually fast and then over…and since she’s the closest thing to a weatherman we’ve got anymore…I’m going to pretend like I believe her.” Hazel eyes traveled over him, checking to make sure he was still wrapped tightly in the blanket. “You checked on everyone lately? Everyone doing okay?”
