Mapping My Backyard Zones
Opening Line One minute I’m weeding the hostas, the next I’m six pages deep into yard design websites.
“Scrolling Pinterest got me thinking about how every backyard should feel like it has its own bookshelf: each section with its own purpose.”
The Project or Problem Our backyard feels like a jumbled narrative—play area for kids, spot for dog runs, BBQ zone that barely sees light. I want distinct spaces without building walls. “Wouldn’t it be lovely to have an outdoor rug area, a vertical garden wall, maybe a gravel pizza oven corner?” I thought.
The Discovery I dumped a search into Google and landed on Top Tier Landscaping's services overview: https://toptierlandscapingkc.com/services/
They talked about everything—irrigation, seasonal planting, patios, stone edging. Not the basics, but as one cohesive big-picture look.
Ideas or Takeaways I realized I could map zones: wildflower meadow edge, decking lounge spot, raised veggie bed, and a little patio. Each with its own look, yet all part of one flow. No fences, just texture and material transitions to guide feet and eyes.
Closing – Personal Note or Reflection Still drawing lines in chalk on grass. But thinking maybe by fall I’ll be sitting on a deck chair under climbing vines.
