Alice in wonderland with a twist
The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party is amazing and a very cool concept. It focuses on questioning the norms, and since many musicals/shows are shut down, this is something fun and upbeat to watch with what is currently happening in the world.(The introduction of each character is my favorite part, and is a modern hip-hop show as well)
In Summary(my words), the show takes each Alice in Wonderland character and looks on what makes them ‘mad’ or ‘odd’ in order to figure out what we define as ‘being normal’ in society. Rather than the use of music to convey the story, it focuses more on the actions and dances each character does with the singer almost narrating their thoughts and movements as they get analyzed.
It is currently available on youtube from the Royal Opera house and ZooNation channel. It is in dedication to Teneisha Bonner( the creator of the queen of hearts), who passed away due to breast cancer last year.
Official Synopsis: Young psychotherapist Ernest is an expert in being normal – he even has a PhD in normalization. He’s just begun his first job, at the prestigious (if rather gloomy) Institute for Extremely Normal Behaviour. It’s immediately clear his patients need his help: the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, Tweedledum and Tweedledee and the furious Queen of Hearts all claim to be from somewhere called Wonderland. But as Ernest gets to know them all, he begins to ask himself two big questions: what is ‘normal’ and what’s so great about it anyway?
(if you watched it, what do you think of it?)
