Our little Ezekiel Rex is SIX MONTHS old today! His interests currently include quantum computing + robotics, his hands, music criticism, the copper lamp in our living room, dinosaurs, inductive Bible study + deconstructing Christianity, singing, and eating. He dislikes pooping, disco, his cannula, and falling asleep. He nearly has his head under control and is starting to try a few solid foods. We do daily physical therapy and he is starting to use his legs more! He has some kind of doctor’s appointment nearly every week, and he he smiles and talks through them all…even when he got a contrast ENEMA x-ray😳 He still has pulmonary hypertension, hence the oxygen, but his heart is looking good enough to not be talking about surgery anytime soon. That said, he will be starting VIAGRA this week. Let that sink in. It’s for his pulmonary hypertension and may hopefully get him off of the oxygen eventually, so…here we go, haha. Needless to say, this little man is so so so so loved. He is the light of our lives and our favorite thing to do is to spend time with him and watch him become who he is. Kevin and I are for sure looking forward to COVID numbers getting under control and for flu season to be over so we can start adventuring outside of our house with Zeke more - and to meet more of YOU! This journey has been a beautiful whirlwind and we still haven’t properly thanked all of you for the food, gifts, prayers, love, advice - but our gratefulness is abundant and one day we will get to to the thank-yous…maybe we’ll just put them in the same envelope as out WEDDING thank-yous hahaha. For the uninitiated, these are carb slide springs. Specifically, they are a stock and after market “stage 1” spring for a Kawasaki ZRX1100, my long suffering daily rider. The short ones are the “go faster” variety, and presumably the shorter length means less tension when a vacuum is created in the throat of the carb intake allowing the slide to move more quickly. I just have to do a shoutout to the all the incredible dads out there. Moms get so much credit, and we absolutely should, but this guy right here has been there with me through the thick of it. He has slept as little as I have. Has been in the NICU when I couldn’t be. Has worried even more than I have…about both of us. Been alert and present enough to really listen and take notes on everything the doctors and nurses have said to us. Reminded me when to do the silliest little and super important things. Transported houseplants and other very unnecessary items from home to help make me more comfortable with living in the hospital. Snuggled me when I cried myself to sleep. Laughed with me when I had “trumpet farts” and other bizarre bodily function stuff going on. Told me I was beautiful when I needed to hear it the most. And that I was strong and doing a good job when it feel like I failing at everything. Ahhh, you guys, this list is not finished… but I do want the world to know that Kevin has labored to bring this little miracle into the world as much as I have and despite this long post, I can’t say enough about how freaking lucky I am to have Kevin as my partner. He’s here! I would say “finally” but he is nearly 2 months early, soooo the little man just couldn’t wait to breathe air I guess. Oh yeah, it also has a bit to do with me getting preeclampsia, but I’d prefer to see it as Zeke just being so ready to take on the world!! Kevin already said it best; “now I know what my heart is for”. And having Kevin there by my side through every gory moment is all I ever hoped for in a partner and beyond. To see him with Zeke is probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.
