I could hear my great-grandmother Hummin’ a’spider-webs story The day before The night I thought I’d die.

And I could hear the stream sing a song, Along, and just beyond her bent knee The day before The night I thought I’d die.

And the river ran wild, “Zumu’s” eyes ran dry, Rested upon the lonely leaf atop current The day before The night I thought I’d die.

But the day after The night I thought I’d die, Encountered was an empty come the knoll she’d sit, For the gods failed to take me;

And in my stead, accepted a limb.
