He's walked straight into trouble.
Roland's turned a corner in Fibonacci and there it is, right in his face--an entire narrow street lined with blood. He's got all of about six seconds to assess the scene (broken glass, prone forms) when something moves in the corner of his eye.
"You'll pay for what you did to my--!"
This person clearly hasn't learned that the time to shout vengeful rhetoric is after the blow has been struck. Roland's able to knee him and take the knife they're holding without too much trouble. He doesn't kill his attacker, but a warning flash of the weapon against their tattered jacket is enough to make them scurry off in a manner very much like a Backstreets Rat.
Obviously, he hasn't done anything to their friends. Then who did?
Roland looks over his shoulder and sees someone else is now at the alley's end, the opposite way the would-be assaulter took off. Is she with the mysterious, jacketed fellow? Someone else in the wrong place at the wrong time?
...The one who did this?
