                                        𝒶𝓃𝒹 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓇𝑜𝒶𝒹 𝑔𝑒𝓉𝓈 𝓉𝑜𝓊𝑔𝒽, 𝒾 𝒹𝑜𝓃'𝓉 𝓀𝓃𝑜𝓌 𝓌𝒽𝓎

Time Lapse: 6 months Label: The Fantasy Occupation: Dancer and courtesan at the Moulin Rouge

Wasn’t it too good to be true? The nerves creeping up her spine were quickly shaken away as she sat beside Mr. Satie on the RMS Andiamo. With Paris behind her, maybe London held the key to the future she had always imagined for herself. She had not believed him at first, when after their weekly engagement Mr. Satie had fidgeted with her blonde curls and explained that he was opening a new cabaret in London and wanted her to be the star performer. She would not see clients, she could live at his estate until the club opened and she was able to live wherever she should choose -- her life would be her own, that much he promised. Ignoring the bad feelings that lingered deep in the pit of her stomach, she packed her bags and left Paris without so much as a goodbye.

Upon her arrival to the estate of Mr. Erik Satie, she realizes just how wrong she had been to trust him. There is a slew of clients that have called upon the courtesan after catching wind about her arrival across the pond, and though she protests, what else is she to do? She is in a new city with no money and no family or friends, this is all she has ever known. When she confronts Mr. Satie about his original offer, he is very apologetic and explains that it must have been a mistake. Once the club opens, he explains, there will be no need to work as a courtesan as the success of her performances should stand alone. In the meantime, though, she is to attend events and see clients in order to earn her stay in his home. She should know better, but she stays.

Three months later, she realizes that there will be no club, there will be no opening, her name will not be in any lights. He brought her to live as an accessory, wearing sparkling gold gowns and jewelry and drape herself over pianos as he played. (He had seen her do this once upon a time, for that pianist at the Moulin, what was his name again? Adagio, of course, not that it mattered now.) Dissatisfied and disappointed, she has been tucking away money and pieces of jewelry he has given her and saving them up. One night, they are expected to attend a gala where Erik will play piano and Charlotte will see clients upstairs, she tells him to go ahead and she will meet him there. Instead, she steals away and runs to the nearest train station with a one-way ticket to Edinburgh.

Amsterdam, Havana, Barcelona... for years she has heard promise after empty promise about these places, and using the money she had stored in London, she decides it is time to see them by herself. Settling for the longest in Barcelona, where she drinks wine in the sunlight and visits the market alone on Sunday mornings, she begins to heal. Until the money runs out, that is.

Her return to Paris is a quiet one, she does not rush to greet anyone or to inform them of her arrival, but instead defeatedly makes her way to the tired old Moulin Rouge and pleads to the choreographer to give her back her job. She regales painful tales of the men she entertained in London, of the things she survived, and luckily the choreographer takes an ounce of pity for her. Resigned, she returns to her old room with the view of the windmill. Drowning in the deep red that covers nearly every surface of her bedroom, she feels less at home than she has in years, trapped in the fantasy she has built for herself.

John has had an interesting week, so to speak. He was busy trying to get his friends Zack and Casper together for the most part of it. They both didn’t seem to think the other wasn’t interested and were both whining to John so he took matters in his own hands and intervened so they could finally start somewhat of a relationship - he isn’t quite sure on what it is but he is happy for his friends.

He senses that Zack doesn’t like it when he talks about his own problems though - mostly boys - but doesn’t really mind it that much. They are not such important problems anyway.

On the kick off party, John kissed Mackenzie. It was just that, just a kiss. John doesn’t think anything else will ever happen between them because Mackenzie is so hot and cold when it comes to John. He voiced those thoughts to Mackenzie when he was drunk a couple of nights ago, but Mackenzie only joked about it so John now takes him as 1) immature 2) not interested. 

He slept with Luke during this week too. They had been talking for a couple of days and it came as a surprise when Luke hit on him, but John just went with it. He struggled a bit with the prospect of having both Luke and Mackenzie at Lauren’s party and his attention being divided, but Mack didn’t end up going and he ended up sleeping with Luke for the second time that night. 

He doesn’t have emotional feelings for either of them. Right now he doesn’t really know what to do with himself or his boys, as Casper put it, but he doesn’t have any rush to find out.
