Lyra
“I am asexual. Unlike my sister, Kia, I do fall in love. I’m… actually kinda romantic at heart. Though I love crafting friend and family bonds the most. Those are so important to me. As for sex? Ew. No I’m not really… no.” Lyra blushed bright red. “Just no. But a nice cuddle can be the best thing in the world!”
“Oh, no need to apologize. I can now see why you look for peace when able.” Kiara waved off Rachel’s apologies. The ice dragon understood better than most just what the royal was going through. Having to marry status and keep up such appearances was exhausting.
“You are doing well, Princess Rachel. I hope you know should you need any assistance, myself and my kingdom are here at your call.” Kiara placed a hand on her sister’s shoulder and Lyra lit up.
“As am I! And my land, Princess Rachel.” Lyra looked up at Kiara and the small nod she gave had the forest dragon’s tail swaying happily. Proud she had said it right. Rose just chuckled at the two causing Kiara to look at her and raise a brow.
“May I inquire what Lady Rose has been up to? I hope she has been respectful to you, Princess. She can be a bit… blunt.” For lack of a better word. Rose had the decency to look bashful under the dragon’s look.
“I behaved!” Kiara didn’t look convinced. Turning back to Rachel.
“I apologize for any insults she may have said. And if she caused you any trouble.”
Her shoulders relaxed a bit, relieved that Queen Kiara wasn't bitter or offended by Rachel's rapid departure. Though, given what she had been told previously about the ice queen's former arrangement, maybe the ice dragon found the similar vector of empathy easy to reach for. "I'm very glad to hear that. My father was disappointed when relations between our kingdoms became so strained and tenuous under your father's stewardship. It feels like healing for us to be speaking amicably here.
Chuckling at the slight banter between the sisters, Rachel couldn't help but smile. It really was a shame... they could have been good friends much sooner than now if only the circumstances were different. "She did behave, I can assure you. Actually, I find her brazen earnestness quite refreshing compared to much of the performative templated nature diplomacy tends to call for in negotiations. To be quite honest, any trouble she would cause would be welcome. I invite her to trouble me, actually!"
Looking between them, and briefly glancing over her shoulder to make sure that Howard wasn't nearby, Rachel nodded, clearing her throat. "Actually, speaking of which, an interesting proposition has come up during our rather engaging conversations just now that I would like to extend to you as well, Your Majesty."
“Healing… I like that phrasing, your highness.” Kiara’s eyes flicked to Lyra fondly. Her tail finding her sister’s and curling delicately.
“You lie. There’s no way that brat behaved.” Kiara let a smirk slip as Rose growled. “Careful, Rosie. You can’t bite out in public.” The ice dragon smirked wider as Rose glared at her.
“I’ll do get you later.” She grumbled and moved closer to Rachel.
“A proposal?” Now that caught Kiara’s attention. Especially when Lyra looked so giddy at it and Rose blushed.
“Do tell. I’m all ears.”
Rose
“Hey! I’m pansexual! I don’t care what’s in your pants, okay? If I find ya attractive, I find you attractive. Don’t matter how you identify. I’ll love ya and take good care. But let me tell ya, if anyone messes with ya I will go feral. They will respect my sweetheart!”
Kiara
“I am aromantic. I don’t fall in love like a Disney princess. Such feelings are beneath a fae of my status. That does not mean I can’t appreciate every piece of art I see. And if I see something in you that I find interesting? Well, maybe I’ll keep you.”

“I meant I’d bite the people for touching my wings! Not-“ Rose choked on a laugh. Damn, Andras had looked horrified at her! But that growl though. She smirked and leaned closer. “Unless of course you wanted me to give them a nibble?”
Rose was snickering as Andy spoke. Other circumstances huh? She raised a brow at him with a smirk. Her tail swaying under his hand. She didn’t bother to hide her content purr under his touch.
“I suppose I didn’t think of your teleporting.” Lyra either didn’t understand his earlier comment or was ignoring it. There was a hint of disappointment in her voice. As if she was sad to see him leave.
Rose leaned in closer to Andras as the steps and cold got closer. Lyra too moved closer to him on his other side. Then, feathers were resting over his shoulder. Lyra had let her wings out and awkwardly draped one over Andras. Even if they had just talked about it… Lyra needed to show her oldest sister she trusted him.
“And who is this?” The voice was as cold and sharp as ice. Kiara stood on the doorway of the living area. Dark eyes staring down the man.
“This is Andras. He’s-“
“A fallen. I know.” Kiara cut Lyra off. And maybe she could really tell what Andras was. How powerful he was. Her own magic swirling around her as if ready to attack.
“Why are you here?” Kia asked him directly. Raising a hand and stopping Lyra or Rose from answering. “I’m asking the fallen.”
"Oh, well, the way you said it..." Okay, that was good to know he'd misinterpreted. But he still cringed just a little bit even at the thought of his wings being 'nibbled'. "Not the wings, but I definitely don't mind being bitten anywhere else." He gave a smirk as he resumed petting Rose's tail. But then his expression changed to mild surprise as he noticed the disappointment in Lyra's voice. He wasn't sure what to say to that.
Sensing the energy of the third fae that had just come in, Andras could tell she was much more powerful than the other two. Probably a full-blooded fae. Interesting, but he wasn't the slightest bit intimidated by her.
"Fine way to treat someone who just saved your..." Andras paused as he realized he didn't know if this was another sister, or some other relation. He decided to just be more straightforward. "I was helping Rose chase away some bad guys that were harassing Lyra. They invited me in. Don't fae have a thing about hospitality, or is that just stories?" It might come across as sarcastic, but it was actually a genuine question. Was that really a fae thing, or was he thinking of vampires? Either way, he had been invited, and it would be kinda rude to kick him out now.
Kiara raised a brow at Andras. His attitude and confidence in the situation both amusing and vexing. She eyed how close her sisters were to him. A tail over his lap and wing over his back. Neither of them would be foolish enough to let someone touch such vulnerable appendages.
Then he called Kiara out on hospitality. Lyra couldn’t help the giggle that rose up. Kiara looked stricken. Rose leaned close to his ear and whispered.
“You got her there.” The smirk clear in her voice. This was the quickest Kiara had ever been cornered. He had been invited. He was their guest. Kiara growled low in annoyance but something he said caught her attention more.
“You helped them against Hunters?” The bite receded from her voice.
“He was amazing, Kia! One flash of light and they were down.” Lyra bragged for him. It had been scary, now looking back Lyra thought it cool.
“I see.” With a drawn out sigh, the cold disappeared. Kia accepting defeat for now. “Then I suppose I must welcome you to our home. I am called Kiara. I am the eldest of us. And full fae.”
At the docks in Weselton's port city, Edgar encountered a young woman who had set up a flower shop in the square. He then examined the flowers she was selling before asking for her name.
"Greetings, I am the Duke of Weselton," he began. "I do not recall seeing you before. Have you come to Weselton to become a citizen?" the smaller man added.
Hearing he was the Duke, Lyra bowed her head respectfully. Smiling a little nervously she looked to her flowers.
“I’m called Lyra. It’s an honor to meet you, Duke.. sir? Uh…” Lyra floundered a bit. Not use to higher class individuals paying her any mind.
“I’m a trader, sir. And a traveler.” Her smile came easier. “I love exploring new lands. Learning of their plants. I cultivate them and even make oils and medicines.” She puffed up proudly. Before remembering who she was talking to and turning a bit sheepish.

The one thing Lyra knew about magic was it was unpredictable. You could practice and do something a million times, but there was always a chance of something going wrong. And with how often Lyra shadow stepped to get out of trouble, it was only a matter of time.
Exploring the Veil was dangerous for a half fae. Most beings there didn’t take kindly to the mixed blood. Lyra had been exploring the celestial when she got caught. Her instincts kicked in and she fell through the shadows….
Only to land on a beach. She looked around confused. Lyra could feel something wasn’t right. Her wings drooped as exhaustion pulled at her. Even if it felt off here, the sand was warm and the waves were nice. The magic drain caught up with her and the fae laid down. It didn’t feel dangerous. Maybe a nap would do her good?

Hiccup ran through the forest, vision blurry from the tears welling up in them.
His dad was leaving on another trip again, and Hiccup would be all alone... again.
"You'll have Gobber, lad," his father had said, sitting the boy on his knee.
"But I need you!" Hiccup had cried out, "You're always leaving, it isn't fair!"
And, being the wise Viking he was at six years old, he packed himself a little bag and took off into the forest, thinking that maybe if the trolls took him in, they wouldn't leave him.
Tripping over a rock, Hiccup tumbled into the forest floor with a cry of surprise. Dirt was smudged across his tunic, and a few stray leaves were stuck in his hair. Sniffling, he sat up, looking around.
...He was good and lost now.
Fear gripped at him. He had been angry before, but now? He didn't want to live with the trolls. He was scared, and he wanted safety.
Drawing his knees up to his chest, his bag sat beside him as the tears rolled down his cheeks.
A twig snapped, and he looked up in alarm. A girl about his age was there, with red hair similar to his own and green eyes. Sniffling, Hiccup wiped his face with the back of his hand, "You...you're not a troll, are you?"
The way the wisp glowed even more made Hiccup's smile widen. A flash of red passed him by and he looked up to see Rose chasing hers playfully. The teen let out a happy chuckle, glad to see his sister enjoying herself.
His eyes lifted to the selkie, a lopsided grin forming. "That's... really thoughtful, Ula. Thank you." Wow! Maybe in the past year she'd become more kind.
...and then that thought disappeared at her words about Rose. "Everyone has something that they fear. It doesn't make them any less of who they are, it just...shows we all have our weaknesses, I suppose."
"She's a pretty awesome fae, you know." He was very proud of Rose and the control she had over her abilities. "I was able to learn a lot from her when I got my own magic."
Blinking at her in surprise, he managed to recover quickly. "Uh, yeah. Looks like it just wasn't meant to be, I'm afraid," he said, playing along. "But, that's alright, yeah? I mean, you'll find someone out there that's much better suited for you than I could ever be."
Looking down at the wisp--uisce in his hands, he asked it, "Can you guide us?"
“You’re an amazing fae. I suppose your sister is an okay fae. Still a pity.” Ula would have liked them to be Selkies… well Rose made a good mer. Plus Ula would bet if Rose was a selkie she’d lose her coat instantly. She huffed at her own thought.
“I’ve upped my standards since our failed love. You’ve set such a high bar.” She was so dramatic and Rose covered a snort with a cough. “I’m sure there’s someone out there that can filled the void you left.”
“Stars help us.” Rose muttered as she fought her laughter. But as Rose cradled the orange light, Ula eyed her with a smirk. If the Selkie knew one thing, it was how to get the attention of others. And if it happened to distract them from something? Even better. Maybe Rose could get over herself and her dislike of Ula’s home.
At Hiccup’s request the uisce light in his hand and Rose’s flashed. They swirls around them before taking off through the kelp. Rose’s instinct kicked right in and she chased after the lights with a laugh.
As the lights weaved through the large kelp the ocean around them began to clear. Then the lights left the forest. Rose flailing to a stop as the uisce had swam out to completely open water with a huge drop. Rose looked down and couldn’t even see the floor anymore. It was like standing at the edge of a cliff.
“Nope! No way.” Rose backed up. The lights twirled happily but didn’t go any further. Then, the darkness in the depth moved. Larger than any dragon on Berk, maybe as large as the green death. The shadow moved slowly as it rose from the deep ocean.
Rose was going to be sick. She wanted to run away… swim away. But she was frozen. Ula looked on unimpressed. Well, she would look unimpressed if her eyes weren’t shining in excitement.
“Didn’t know he was resting so close.” She said casually, causing Rose to look at her.
“He? Who is he? What is he?!” Rose would never admit her voice squeaked.
“Lyngbakr.” Ula said as if it was obvious. The whale like creature rose. The top of it was covered in green. Kelp that looked like grass…. Actually the top of the creature looked like an underwater island! Grass, trees, boulders?! The underside looked more like a whale. Grey and mottled. Giant black eyes staring at them that made Rose shudder. And teeth that looked like they belonged to a shark instead of a whale.
“He’s mostly harmless. Only going after humans that hunt whales. He probably won’t eat you.”

"I hardly think that one instance classifies me as a, a heart breaker..." He rolled his eyes playfully, knowing Rose was just teasing.
"Just like in Berk..." Their tribe wasn't as diverse as this one, but maybe someday they could be! "It's certainly an advantage that you can go on land."
Hiccup slowed as they approached the kelp forest, his green eyes widening in wonder. "Wow...this is really something!" Excitedly, he grinned at Rose. "Just think of it like the willow tree in my circle. It, it's kind of similar, yeah?"
And it really was just like a forest, the kelp was home to many different creatures. He took in his surroundings with a gentle curiosity, sometimes leaning to get a closer look but not touching the creatures. He didn't want to disturb them.
From Ula's description, these uisce were absolutely wisps. Hiccup nodded in agreement with Rose, his gaze turning to the blue and purple one that lingered near him.
Cupping his hands, he held them below the wisp, so it could sit in his hands if it wanted to. "Hey, little guy! You're kind of like a guardian, aren't you?" He turned to Ula, "So will we follow them to navigate the kelp forest?" Ula was trying at times, but she wasn't cruel. And that wisp seemed to like her, so it was likely she had let them guide her at least once.
The little sprite glowed, appearing happy in Hiccup’s hand. Where wisps warmed these little guys were cold. Rose was having a bit of fun chasing hers. For a moment she forgot the weird kelp and deep ocean. Instead the orange light was testing her speed and agility around the kelp vines.
“I thought we’d have them guide you and your sister. While I know the best places to show you, they will show you what you need to see.” Ula looked reluctant to give up leadership but she understood a bit of their circumstance. Púcas were fickle. And with what she… overheard, they needed to learn about her home.
“Still can’t believe your sister is a scaredy fish.” Ula muttered so only Hiccup heard. She watched Rose dive after the sprite and had to fight her own smile.
“She’d have made an awesome merrow. So sad you’re both cursed to the land and air.” The Selkie sighed dramatically. “Our love was tragic from the start I suppose. I’m sorry it didn’t work out.” She spoke as if she was the one that called it off.
“I got you! Ha!” Rose had her wisp in her arms and tail curled in joy. Ula clapped with a raised brow.
“Wooow. Good job. Now ask your uisce to guide you. We’ll see what it thinks is important.”

Fear gripped at him. He had been angry before, but now? He didn't want to live with the trolls. He was scared, and he wanted safety.

A twig snapped, and he looked up in alarm. A girl about his age was there, with red hair similar to his own and green eyes. Sniffling, Hiccup wiped his face with the back of his hand, "You...you're not a troll, are you?"
He really felt for her. Being thrown into a situation like this would jar just about anyone, but to have been afraid of the ocean and to find yourself suddenly a sea creature? No wonder she was having a hard time. "I know. I'm sorry, Rose. But don't worry, it's only temporary, and I'm going to help you through this."
The appearance of the bubble had his eyes widen, watching as it floated upwards. "Huh." That was new.
Ula chiming in had Hiccup startle. If he was on land, he would have jumped, but under the water, he simply jolted. As soon as she turned away, Hiccup rolled his eyes, his arms falling to his sides. "Yeah. Ex. We weren't actually together, you know. Though apparently she thinks otherwise..."
He sighed. "Come on. Might as well follow her."
“You’re just a heart breaker.” Rose stuck close to Hiccup as they swam after Ula.
“It’s not just selfies that live here. I mean obviously. Mar is a merman. But there are also merrows. And a few sirens. Our clans enjoy coming together to make big and diverse pods. Each of us have skills and talents that add to our community.” Ula spoke as she lead them.
“Mers are the most human like of us. They have very dexterous hands and are incredible crafters. Merrows are crazy good hunters. Sirens are artsy, of course they are. And selkies? Why we are the hardiest of them! Our fur and ability to shift forms make us the perfect traders and travelers.” The farther they got from the community the quieter the water around them got. The… bluer it got.
Rose swam closer to her brother. They were swimming down now. But there was green coming into their view.
“Here we are!” Ula took off ahead and swam into the green mass. Getting closer showed it was literally a kelp forest. The kelp grew from the ground up about ten feet. The strands swaying in the current. Once they went into the kelp more colors could be seen. Bright fish, strange flower like things clung to the kelp and floor.
Movement between the green caught Rose’s eye. Amongst the fish were glowing lights. They floated around and changed colors. It was almost hypnotizing watching them.
“Are those wisps?” Rose swam closer to one. It wasn’t fire like a wisps but it moved like one. Ula giggled like Rose asked a silly question.
“A wisp? Don’t be ridiculous. These are uisce sprites. They guide those who are good to safety. And guide those cruel to death.” To Rose’s surprise one of the sprites actually floats around Ula.
“So… they sound exactly like wisps. Just… underwater.” Rose swims with a red one that just guides her in circles around Hiccup. A blue and purple one floats around Hiccup. It’s cold to the touch but seems content to lazily follow the fae.
