François Rabelais, Gargantua
[By which, in them, Democritus was shown heraclitizing and Heraclitus democritizing.]
Marcus Tullius Cicero, Cato; or, An essay on old age
“Did length of days weaken the powers of Homer, Hesiod, or Simonides; of Stesichorus, Isocrates, or Gorgias? Did old-age interrupt the studies of those first and most distinguished of the Greek philosophers, Pythagoras or Democritus, Plato or Xenocrates? or, to descend into later times; did grey hairs prove an obstacle to the philosophic pursuits, of Zeno, Cleanthes, or that famous Stoic whom you may remember to have seen in Rome, the venerable Diogenes? on the contrary, did not each of these eminent persons persevere in their respective studies with unbroken spirit, to the last moment of their extended lives?”
My aesthetic: The way Homer writes about the sea .
Actually, the reason he describes it so well is cause the Greeks did not have a word for blue in their language
They had multiple words for blue , but not in the way we English speakers understand it ! I believe there’s a pretty popular post out there that explains it better than I can, but it’s the different epithets and descriptors used to describe blue things and objects and places that made Homer’s descriptions of the sea so dynamic. Homer commonly used light as a way of communicating how blue existed to him and his target audience. They didn’t have a SINGLE word for blue, no, but poetic words and phrases for it nonetheless.
“τέτλαθι δή, κραδίη: καὶ κύντερον ἄλλο ποτ᾽ ἔτλης. - Be patient, my heart: for you have endured things worse than this before.”

Petros Koublis rewrites old myths. The Greek photographer has traversed the craggy terrain of Athens, Santorini, and Marathon in search of echoes left behind by the ancient bards and dreamers.
Most recently, he made his way to Tinos, where according to The Odyssey by Homer, the hero Ajax was said to have drowned a violent death in the wake of the Battle with Troy, having incurred the wrath of the gods Athena and Poseidon.
