Dear Fangan Creators Stop Expecting Free Work Lol

I’m so tired of seeing fangans asking for help and/or seeking writers, designers, artists and creative directors for their projects through calls in the community claiming they’ll be working purely out of “passion”, without any form of payment, and expecting *literal years* of work experience in order to start working. Keep in mind: I’m not pointing any fingers, but, c’mon It’s kinda baffling to me that people still do this. Who do you think you’re fooling man? You’re expecting people to have the same experience as a fucking freelancer (whether it be writer, artist, or anything in between) and just randomly expecting them to join your (barely developed) project in which they are NOT getting payed and you are demanding so much from them. Seriously, I’ve seen some calls with extremely rough requirements to join a team that has barely even released any content.

How do we know you’ve even started writing the project? How do we know that we don’t have to write it all up ourselves? You won’t even show us examples of the work you’re making, yet your requirements tell us that you must replicate the writing style of your fangan on point…?

People are unfamiliar with these characters. There is no motivation. No one wants to work for you, especially when your fangan is uninteresting and lackluster. You are a tiny little speck in a sea of same-face styled danganronpa clones. Your first step towards hiring people should be making it look interesting and showing examples, showing work and getting people interested. I’m not pointing any fingers, but there are some project that I’ve seen 0 progress on asking casting calls for their bland ass characters No one wants to work on that… how do I even know the voice I have to make? Sure, you can tell me, but it doesn’t really feel like I’m characterizing someone when I’m looking at a sprite edit of Kazuichi Souda lol

Just fucking hire people. Actually hire them, don’t “scout” them through these call posts. Pay them money. Commission them. Artists and writers don’t work for someone else just because. You lack the passion and the motivation. Unless you’re going to pay your artists, credit them and treat them well? Then I think your big project’s a flop dude Pay them; and if you don’t want to pay them? Then fuck off and stop looking for free work
