Riley's amber eyes glanced at the other across the table from her. A poker chip danced between her fingers as she considered her next move.
"I fold." She muttered as she tossed the chip she was playing with across the table. She had more pressing matters to handle. "Next time we meet, I won't be so easy on you." Riley said as she pushed away from the poker table and looked around the Casino.
Riley was a new ghoul in Sinostra, and she was instructed to find Taiga or Romeo. It was important for her to complete a mission with at least one of them, and Romeo had already refused her. "Welp, I guess it's time to bite the bullet and get this on the road." Riley said as she walked off deeper into the Casino.
Taiga was bored. Every single game had failed to amuse him today. "Hey," he grumbled, grabbing the sleeve of the nearest student who more or less resembled one of his guys, "we got anyone downstairs?"
The student (who was one of his guys, thankfully enough) nodded fearfully. "Yep, two, actually," he croaked out.
Taiga let him go and stalked off to entertain himself. He had a bad habit of not looking where he was going, since everyone seemed to get out of his way automatically. But then someone didn't - and he crashed right into Riley.
Riley felt another bring up into her, causing her to cry out in surprise as well as pain. "Holy fuck!" She cried out as she rubbed the side of her head and looked up wanting to be angry but before she could even say an angry word they all just dissolved off her tongue.
It was Taiga, she was looking for him and he just so happened to crash into her like a sign from the heavens that her meeting him was in her cards, but she wasn't one to believe in fate so she just chopped it up as coincidence. "Well now, looks like the odds are in my favor tonight!" Riley chirped happily her amber eyes looking over a very bored Taiga. "Just the man I've been looking for."
It took him at least four spins of the mental loading wheel to figure out that she was even talking to him and not someone else. Sometimes, his staring into the void was due to visions bestowed by his stigma. Other times it was just his brain catching up like an underpowered computer.
"Who're you?" His hand started to reach for gun #1 out of habit. "And why are you looking for me?"
Riley watched as Taiga reached for his gun. A pang of worry formed in her stomach. Would he really shoot her if he didn't like her answer. "My name is Riley....I'm the new ghoul in the sinostra house. Professor Hyde said it would be best if I met up with you or Romeo to discuss missions." Riley said, figuring it would be best to just give him all the details.
"I already met Romeo, and he said I should also talk to you since you are both Captians of Sinostra." Riley decided to leave out the part where they didn't really get much of a conversation because Romeo said he was too busy to talk to her.
"So do you mind if we discuss some things.... I really want to go out on some missions."
New ghoul, huh...Taiga switched to using the gun to scratch his head in confusion. "You're not that dumbass with the book...don't think I've seen you before." He bristled at the mention of Hyde, expression going dark as he all but missed the rest of her explanation.
Something in the back of his brain reminded him that they didn't really go on missions ever since he'd landed them on probation, and if he'd been thinking more clearly, he would've found it strange that Hyde would fail to mention that to this person. But he wasn't. He was thinking about something else.
"C'mon," he said as he tucked his gun away. "I've gotta do somethin'." He strode away from the casino floor and toward a door that led to the stairwell, not waiting to see if she would follow, just assuming she would.
To keep from falling behind, Riley quickly started to walk with Taiga and smiled. "Hyde told me he is thinking of ending the probation... he's also hoping I can help the house, so he wanted me to meet with you or Romeo....Apparently Romeo is too busy, though, so I figured talking to you might work out in my favor. Also, you seem a little less uptight about how things are done." Riley said as she looked up at Taiga with a soft smile.
"Besides, you guys won't have to assist me for long....once I get the hang of it, I'll be able to form my own teams and go on missions on my own!" Riley said eagerly, "unless you want to stick with me as a team....I wouldn't mind you're easy on the eyes." Riley added glancing away, hoping Taiga wouldn't catch the color in her cheeks.
Hyde...eugh. Taiga fucking hated that guy. "Don't trust him." It was both a command and a statement of his opinion.
He made his way down the metal stairs that led into the lower levels of the ship, descending at least four floors before he stopped. He wasn't entirely sure why this girl was following him, but he figured if he'd wanted to shoot her or tell her to get lost, he would've done it by now, so she was probably alright.
This part of the ship used to be staterooms, but it was pretty much unused anymore. Taiga strode down a series of halls until he reached one particular door and opened it. "Aaaaaafter you!" he said with a bright smile.
The room inside was mostly dark, but it was lit up enough to see a chair in the center of the room, and someone blindfolded was tied to it.
Riley looked into the room, then stepped in and noticed the person blindfolded to the chair. "Are we torturing this mother fucker?" She asked partly joking pointing to the person in the chair.
"Nah, probably not. I doubt I'd see something that cool on the first day here." She added, shoving her hands into her hoodie pocket. "So is there any reason I shouldn't trust Hyde? He made it sound like he was there to help if I needed it, but if I'm in your house and you're my captain, I should listen to you, since you know best, right?" Riley asked, resting her back against the wall.
"Hm? You can watch, I guess." Maybe she could hold some things. Depended on how much the victim squirmed. And/or how fast their insides ended up on their outsides.
But the mention of Hyde raised his hackles again. "Stay away from that fucker," he said with a low growl.
He went to a rolling cart and withdrew several items, including a cloth rag that looked like it had seen better days, which he handed to her. "And hold this."
Then his whole demeanor changed. A wide, unhinged grin took over his face as he lifted the victim's blindfold. "Hi there, dumbass!" he said brightly. "Today's your lucky day! Heard you haven't paid Lulu back yet, so I thought we'd have a chat about it."
It was a Vagastrom student, and he went completely bloodless at the sight of Taiga's smile. He looked back to Riley, as if hoping she would be the one to save him.
