Spinning Light pt1

Wedge ran towards the other X-wing, dread filling him, it had rolled so badly that three of the foils had been ripped clear off. By some small miracle it hadn’t exploded but the twisted vessel emitted dark smoke, R2-D2 had been ejected but Luke’s hatch had jammed. He scrambled over the wreckage and looked into the cockpit, Luke’s chin was to his chest and Wedge could see blood splatters over the orange flight suit. Wedge tried to pull the canopy open but it was stuck tight, the frame bent and wedged, he had no real tools, his astromech had taken a hit so he had no help there. He knew that the Imperials would have tracked their ships to the surface and they would come soon enough.

“Luke! Luke!” Wedge knocked the cracked glass trying to rouse the younger man. “Come on kid!” He couldn’t even see if Luke was breathing but his heart lurched a little when he realized that the ejection cord had been pulled and that the seat was a little misaligned. Luke had tried to eject in the black, Wedge knew that, he had heard him over the comms, he had heard him eject the astromech and then his intention to eject himself. He had tried and then his comms had silenced, since he had probably broken his neck from the impact with the canopy. Luke was dead. There was nothing he could do.

Wedge sat down hand over his face, he could hear speeders approaching. “Sorry Luke.” He pulled out a thermal detonator and armed it, he placed it next to the fuselage before going back to his own ship.

That’s…… rough buddy.

This evening our old man Dan travelled to the ever-green and never ending Hills filled with good grass and fresh water. I found him with a fractured hindleg and for that there is no cure for a 30 year-old horse. He was most of the time a troublesome idiot who dragged I, my sister and grandma across the yard when he was younger, he was the horse that never raced. He always knew exactly where the steelboot ended and stepped on many feet. He was the uncle to my mares who raised our Tetu when we had to separate her drom her mom due to her getting ill. I will miss him banging his way out of his stall not caring one wit that I was infront of the door. I had him from birth and loved him even though I called him an idiot nearly daily.
