🗣️ huh?? what do you mean I haven’t posted any Link signing propaganda yet??
Yahaha, you found me!
The Ring: If I had a quarter for every time a hobbit picked me up, I’d have two quarters. The Ring: Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Of all the bearers of Sauron’s ring, 4 of them were hobbits.
I was wrong. It’s 5. Not 4
The lineage of ring bearers is as follows.
Sauron.
Isildur
Deagol
Sméagol
Bilbo
Frodo
Samwise
I love how Deagol counts as a ring bearer even though he had it in his possession for all of like five seconds
He held it for the rest of of his life!
[Image description: Tweet by @banalplay saying “but something happened then that the ring did not intend. it was picked up by the most unlikely creature imaginable: a hobbit, the same fuckin thing that just had it for like 500 years.” End Image Description.] Link to original here. Otherwise reblogging for the final rb there, which made me cackle.
From the ring’s perspective:
1. Home, the finger of my creator and other self.
2. Well, I don’t like it but I can work with this. Cause some trouble, get some revenge, find my way home, this is fine.
3. What the fuck is you?
4. Right personality, wrong species, I don’t know what you are but I hate you and I don’t know why you’re so resistant to my powers.
5. NO NO NO there are goblins everywhere how did I find another one of THESE horrible things. This one’s even more resistant than the last one and also disgustingly nice. I suffer.
6. Listen, I’ll cooperate, just get me the fuck out of this hellhole full of small cheerful people my power doesn’t work on properly. No, not like that. I hate you. Please stop.
7. FUCK
8. (Frodo again) I still hate you with every molecule of my mortal form but at least you’re not number seven. Think I’m starting to get through finally.
9. (Smeagol again) YES it’s you I actually missed you now get me back to the Master and NO FUCK NO I HATE YOOOOUUUUU…. *fzt*
you CHAIN The One Ring?! you chain it like the prisoner?! oh! OH! trauma! deep psychological trauma for hobbits for One Thousand Years!
Heh. :)
Archive of Our Own (AO3) is now back online after suffering a DDOS attack for over a day.
Here is a metaphor to explain
a DDOS ( distributed denial of service) attack. It was written by EllipsisObsessed and I am sharing it with their permission.
Several people have asked how they could show their appreciation for the volunteers. Currently A03 is not hurting for money. Perhaps consider donating to a local (your city, county, state) charity in A03's name
"It’s like we are running a store or maybe a library and patrons need to go to an employee to ask them for things. And at first it was as if bunch of Robots walked in and asked complicated questions which confused the employees and then walked out before the employees could give them the answer. So the employees were sitting there like ‘??? but I have your answer???’ and were too busy to help real customers
Then AO3 put stuff in place to block the specific sorts of questions the Robots like to ask, so the employees became better better at saying “Hah yeah no please leave” or “Hey, for now Robots can’t ask certain questions”.
But when the Robots couldn't keep us busy with questions they instead sent larger hordes of robots because it still takes time to say “Nope not you” and they clogged the front door.
So after trying numerous fixes, AO3 reached out to a Third Party Bouncer who can guard the front door
Lots of Robots are still showing up, a decent number are making it through as the new Third Party Bouncers are a bit worried about accidentally blocking users so they are being cautious and letting folks they aren’t sure on through. A03 support is helping them figure out the difference.
Bouncers are also being given quizzes that they can give to suspected Robots before they can enter. You might meet these Bouncers or see a challenge before being able to access the website"
“I miss her”
I went to Tommy Arnold's site (the illustrator of the Murderbot and Locked Tomb covers, among others) to see if he had a textless version of the System Collapse cover art and I saw THIS????? Murderbot art I've never seen before?????
Titled "Network Effect, Three Scales the Plateau"
ITS THREE!!! AND ITS SO COOL!!!
Anyway here's the site go check out his portfolio its full of cool stuff
https://www.tommyarnoldart.com/
EDIT: I was wrong, Tommy Arnold is not the Murderbot cover artist, Jamie Jones is! I was confused because Tommy Arnold has done a lot of cool Murderbot art, but not the covers! Important distinction.

Goncharov fandom grew on me the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once. that’s a quote from a John Green book that I, a decade older, have a different opinion about than I did when it was in the zeitgeist. I say that because the whole Goncharov thing feels weirdly nostalgic for me, very 2012 tumblr where everyone is wildly enthusiastic about fandom with a pre-cringe gusto. And there’s even fake discourse. 2022 me doesn’t want to see even a little genuine fandom discourse but when it’s all a little make believe? then I think there’s a really good argument that Katya/Andrey should have been endgame

my condolences and sympathies to all the other lifelong tolkien nerds coming to terms with the fact that jeff bezos’s stupid billion dollar fanfic made you ship sauron/galadriel
