“I’ve never spent the holidays here.” He doubted his family would hear of it, his cousins wouldn’t let him stay behind, but it’s not like he’d stuck around with his family for the last few years anyway, he just had to be away from everyone sometimes. “Hogwarts will definitely be different without her, she had become such a large part of the school.”

“A war heroine, a gifted witch and then some. It’s just a bit shocking. No one is truly immortal, but if there were ever a candidate.” Kim shook her head, letting herself smile a bit, “Well, it is what it is. She wouldn’t want us to all dwell on her. So you’re going home for the holidays?”

[Greenhouse Seven]

“Baby!” He shouted into the handle of the rake he was dragging around the greenhouse. “Youuuuu were always gunna be the one…” He roughly shoved the dead leaves into a bag and straightened. “You only ever did it just for fun…” He pulled on the draw string and hauled the bag over his shoulder. “But you run to paradi- OH!” The bag pushed the noise-cancelling ear muff off his left ear. As it did, Loxley was confronted by a student shouting at him. Loxley went bright red. He liked singing, and he once read it was beneficial to do so to plants. He liked doing it with the ear muffs on because then he could only hear himself. He cleared his throat a little as he went to chuck the bag of leaves next to the others he had collected. “I didn’t expect anyone to be in here…” He mumbled sheepishly.

You can’t excel at everything, and sadly, Herbology was not a strong suit of Kim’s. Try as she might, her marks in the class had just never been up to par--which is why when she finally had the option to not take the class anymore, she opted out. But there was a second year who seemed to have themselves set on keeping Kim’s attention for a long time. And it was adorable and Kim was more than willing to help him with his assignments, but herbology was among them, and so she was determined to brush up. Second year plant care, couldn’t be that difficult for a now seventh year to comprehend right? Wanting some hands on experience, Kim decided to take some time to herself in one of the Greenhouses--as she approached number seven, however, she could’ve sworn she heard someone shouting from inside. Brow furrowing, she pushed the door open lightly to see someone inside, earmuffs on and singing something rather loudly. Laughing, she closed the door behind her and watched a moment before waving her hand at him--she went unnoticed, “Hello!” She called out. Again, unnoticed. It wasn’t until she stepped forward that the other noticed her and she laughed again, hand over her mouth, “I’m sorry, I didn’t meant to interrupt your fun.” She said, her voice a bit muffled as her laughter was gradually more difficult to contain, “I didn’t know anyone else was in here.”

three quirky facts about yourself

“Quirky facts? Well…when I was a kid, I liked to walk around the house and make my hands into claws and growl a lot. Don’t know why, especially since we never once had a cat. I can bend just my middle finger in three places, aaaand… I really don’t know what else to say—OH! I  haven’t bought myself new clothes in three years. Is that quirky? Or is that just wierd…?”

favorite & least favorite food

“Candy canes. Really, I love peppermint anything. But candy canes are my weakness. Least favorite food is probably seaweed, which thankfully there isn’t any of here. Eomma makes it a lot at home though...sadly.”

“It’s of no surprise.” He added, sure he understood what she meant. It was sad, a loss for Hogwarts for sure, but Tyler would never get away with missing classes. He supposed that was the difference between his family and some others. “I can’t imagine what it must be like over the holidays, I always go home but it must be terribly empty for those who stay, especially this year.”

“I’ve only stayed in the castle over holidays twice and both times it was actually very pleasant. But as you said, this year, can’t possibly be the same. I’ll be going home.” Her brother was bound to have her head if she didn’t. One of those years she’d stayed home was last year, and her brother owled her endlessly about it.

“It’s been quiet for a while now,” Lana said in agreement, nodding slowly. She, too, was extremely quiet lately. All because the grief of losing someone who had been close enough to be her family, and it was going to take a long while to get over it. “Are you holding up okay, Kim?”

Kim let a sigh slowly escape her as she ran her fingers through her hair. She had a habit of not letting things bother her show to prominently to others, but something about this was much harder to conceal, “Well enough, I suppose.” She murmured, a bitter smile turned up the corners of her lips, “She was one of our own. A Gryffindor. Something about that just makes it worse...maybe that’s just me.”

“A bit deafening to be honest.” It felt like Will had to keep his voice low and quiet during the period of mourning and grief so as to not upset the solemn air of the castle. With so many teenagers and children running around in the castle there was hardly a quiet moment, and it was incredibly strange. “Never thought I would miss people being loud in the great hall.”

“The noise made the castle feel more alive. Without it...it’s just kinda eerie.” Sure it was nice to be able to work in places that were normally crowded and noisy, but at what cost? Kim would rather her headmaster over a bit of quiet in the halls any day.

“Don’t even worry about it,” she relayed as bumped into, eyes dragging up to meet the other. She’d always hated the spacey sort of persons, but they were the easiest to play into, she could not deny that much. Nevertheless, she met the collision with quickly steadying feet and gaze already scrutinizing the other. “I think you took it worse than me anyway, yeah? Here, let me help you up,” she offered, hand outstretched as though she were kind and forgiving and gentle where she wasn’t. Willow had a sinner beneath her skin that itched at her something terrible, and one that made it impossible to miss the searching look which hazed over the other girl’s eyes. “You look a bit lost, in fact. Did you need any help?”

Practically laid on her back, knees together, she let out a woeful laugh, throwing her head back a bit at her own haphazardness, “I guess you could say that.” Gratefully, Kim reached out for the other’s hands and used them as support to bring herself to her feet. Adjusting her robe and skirt, she shook her head, “Not lost. just looking for something--I think someone’s gone and charmed my prefect badge to hop around the castle on it’s own and I can’t seem to find it. It’ll be my head if I don’t find it.”

“Classes were especially quiet.” Tyler agreed with a nod. He was a little surprised, he had expected more people to attend classes, but he supposed a lot of people were probably more hurt by the death of McGongall than he was- not that he didn’t think it was a tragedy. “It’s a little eerie with so little people walking about.”

“Very much so. Such...nevermind” She couldn’t make herself say sadness. What need was there? It was obvious. So she caught herself and shook her head, giving the other a small smile, “It’s beginning to feel like a ghost town around here.”

“Oddly quiet in the castle lately.” She knew why--Kim was no fool. Not an idiot and certainly not one to be unaffected by tragedy. Still, after so many years of this school, it was strange to see it in such a quiet state. Almost lifeless, the mood of the air matching the mood of many students still shaken by the passing of their headmaster.

Katie yelped as her dormmate knocked into her, but then again she wasn’t paying much attention all that much. Wandering the halls looking for Frank and Tuesday since the pair had vanished off the face of the earth, Merlin she hoped they were finally shagging in a broom-closest. She could only hope, but as she knocked Kim to the ground she immediately felt bad, “Shit, sorry babe, I wasn’t paying attention. Besides who can possibly take me out,” the Gryffindor tossed her hair and grinned before offering a hand, a worried expression her her face though, “But no are you okay seriously?”

Letting herself laugh a bit at the girl, Kim gratefully reached out for the other’s hand, using her support to hop back to her feet and grin, “Never better! Well–feeling a bit stupid that I let myself fall like that, but otherwise I’m okay.” Running her fingers through her hair, Kim let out a small breath and asked, “You…wouldn’t happen to have seen a gold prefect badge hopping around the castle, would you? I think one of the 2nd years bewitched mine or something, because I can’t keep my hands on it for the life of me.”

“Can’t believe I lost it...again. I swear, it’s vanishing all on it’s own! Does it not like me?” The Gryffindor girl was murmuring to herself as she shuffled down the hall, poking her head behind corners and into broom closets in search of something that had gone missing from her person. As she reached a turn, she wrapped her palm around the column and swung herself around the corner, only to fling herself right into the oncoming body of another student. Impact, a shout of surprise and Kim was on her backside in no time, groaning slightly, “Oh jeez...ow. Oh that, really hurt---are you okay? I’m sorry, I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going.” She asked, looking up at the person she’d bumped into.
