I might be one of the only people to say this, but season 4 is actually a really good season for brittana. I think their breakup and time apart made them come back so much stronger. And we all love yearning santana.

listing my favorite ways that olivia rodrigo foreshadows sadness in purple (from you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love) <3
“we argue about who we’re hanging out with like a real couple”
I noticed the above line in particular when I was listening because it implies that they aren’t a real couple, so at least one side of the relationship doesn’t fully believe in their future, showing that their love doesn’t feel genuine because Olivia has to ask for it (see all of begged). AND this is confirmed in cigarette smoke when she says “i thought that we played the perfect couple but you didn’t want the part” which confirms what I thought AND it hits hard bc yk, louis is an actor…
2. “your red and my blue now i see the world in purple”
starting with the fact that purple is the color that Olivia is leaving behind in her past albums is already showing how she wants to forget about what happened in her relationship AND I realized on the first listen that she gave herself blue instead of red. red is commonly connected to love and devotion, while blue is always symbolizing sadness. to me this ties into the cure specifically the line “it doesn’t matter how your love feels anymore, it’ll never be the cure” even in a seemingly romantic song like purple, Olivia still hints at the feelings of unfulfillment which she admits to feeling in the next song. purple is literally a perfect transition into the melancholy of the second half of the album.
3. “i had big dreams till i tied myself to you”
i didn’t notice this one until after a few listens, but I think it’s easy to read this as a limiting quality in their relationship which supports the themes of codependency in songs like maggots for brains or stupid song. yeah that’s it.
4. just listen to the end of the song where it quite obviously starts to go downhill :(
