I don't rlly have a solid label for my alterhumanity; I feel it comes from a combination of things (dehumanization due to being disabled + autistic, psychosis, plurality, spirituality) and honestly I'm not really considered with the "why" as much as I am with just being me & figuring out how best to be happy :)

Alterhumans who still consider themselves human or relate to the concept of being human in some way are just as valid as those who don't identify with the concept of humanity at all, and those in-between. Your connection to humanity doesn't inherently determine your worth as an alterhuman.

Dear lords.

I love being a shark and everything, but just. Why do I eat all my friends?

I want to talk about my nonhuman urges and memories, but all my friends are things I eat. I want to talk about my memories of whale meat but I know a whale. I want to talk about the thrill of chasing seals but I'm friends with a weddell seal. I want to talk about how I used to eat squids whole, but I don't want to make my squid friend uncomfortable. Why did I have to be the strongest and most aggressive shark in the ocean? Why did I have to be a carnivore? What if my friends were reincarnated in human bodies because of me? I didnt mean to, please, I had to eat. It would've been so much better if I was just a peaceful herbivore.

If it makes you feel better, you are definitely not alone in the inconvenient/uncomfortable violent memories and instincts department; a lot of predator folk have something similar going on.

Regarding feeling bad about it: carnivores are not evil for being carnivores. We’re a part of the world, key to an ecosystem’s continued functioning - without carnivores curbing herbivore numbers, the entire ecosystem falters and eventually collapses as herbivores overeat the plants faster than the plants can keep up and then everything starves to death eventually. It’s not nice, or pretty, but nature rarely is (even herbivores aren’t as “peaceful” as people like to imagine them, in all reality). It’s the Way Of Things and, at least in my opinion, that makes it good, or at the very least neutral. The chances that you were the one to specifically predate the individual prey you’re friends with now are extraordinarily low, but even if you were, it really doesn’t make much difference - if they don’t care that your theriotype is a predator of their species, they probably won’t care about the hypothetical possibility that you might have been the predator that killed them. You didn’t know each other then and you were not evil for surviving, any more than any other carnivore.

Regarding wanting to talk about it but not wanting to distress people, which is a totally valid concern: may I recommend content warning tags as a means for people who might be uncomfortable with this topic to blacklist so they can still follow and interact with you without risking seeing those posts? Other people have the right to avoid the topic, you’re completely right, but you also have the right to want to talk about your own experiences with like-minded people. Might help you deal with feeling bad about it too. A tag like “hunting memories” or similar would work to fulfill both competing needs.

The Hisotry of the Term Animal-Hearted

As the term animal-hearted has been spreading as of late, we decided to write about the history of were and how the term came about. The term “animal-hearted” described a person who identifies with a certain animal or have a very strong connection with a certain animal. When used to describe oneself the word “animal” is replaced by the specific animal in question. For example, if someone very strongly identifies with horses they could be called “horse-hearted.”    The term originated outside the therian community in what is called the daemon community which dates back to the early 2000s. This community is centered around people who have created a personality typing system based around animal behaviors coupled with the act of created an imaginary friend or mental construct to act as their companion which is called their daemon. This concept was created out of the fandom for the book series His Dark Materials by Philp Pullman. In the mid-2000s the daemon community became aware to the therian community due to a some of their many members also being therians. In 2009, a thread was created for members of the forum who were therian to chat about therianthropy. Several members quickly commented that they did not identify as a certain animal and merely identified with or had a strong connection to a certain animal. Those members noted they better fit the term “[insert animal here]-hearted” which they were inspired to do so by another user who had been calling themself “horse-hearted” on the forum since 2008. From that thread on people began to adopt the term and use it for themselves.   By 2010, the term spread to therian forums with the help from therians who were also members of the daemon community at the time. Even better, the original form of the word was "otherkind" with a D at the end. Like humankind and elvenkind. But because Torin made a typo in the summer of 1990, "otherkin" became the dominant for of the word.

I sort of relate to changelings but in the opposite way most seem to? like i relate less to "fae child in human family" (altho I do still relate to it) and more to "human child in fae family", because I really feel like I was more by nature than my parents. I feel safer and more deeply connected in the woods than with any person, and I feel like that connection changed my soul in some specific way that makes me relate to forestkin.
