We all gush about how the davenzi kiss happened in a pool w no water (the aesthetic that has the creativity that has. unparalleled) but the fact that they did it while completely sober? During the day? They were all in. No need for alcohol to give them the confidence. No need for the cover of night. Because they knew, this was it.

matteo’s popularity is kind of interesting to me. and i don’t mean that i’m surprised that he’s popular, because i’m not, although i can also kind of understand why some people who don’t really get his character might think he’s boring or whatever. but what i find interesting is that people who say they love him go so hard (including me), saying things like they’ve rarely - or never before - related to a character this much and that matteo is them etc. 

and i mean there are always very beloved characters, i myself have loved my fair share of characters in my days, but i haven’t seen it to this extend that often where people loved a character because they never really related to a character this way, not necessarily their circumstances or more ‘superficial’ traits, but specificly their personality and the way they just exist in the world.

and i’m not trying to say that matteo is the most relatable character ever or anything (though the concentration of matteo-like people might be a bit higher on tumblr than in the general population) but just that he is kind of unique.

because he is a bit of an unusual protagonist. he’s quiet and mostly -  except when it comes to david - passive, he doesn’t really have any obvious, easy to understand dreams or aspirations (besides maybe his wish for love and connection) but this lack of aspirations isn’t a quirky character trait that defines him, it just is. and that’s not what we’re really used to from main characters in movies or shows. maybe there’s an underdeveloped side character like this but never the protagonist. 

and i think that’s why people who can’t really relate to your usual protagonist types gravitate to matteo so much and why he’s so important to them and why they go so hard for him; because they’ve rarely seen a main character who is like them in this way in film or tv.
