Not Just Physical

Decluttering does not only include going through and clearing out my physical items. It also includes going through and organizing my electronic items, most particularly my emails. 

I love signing up for newsletters and deals and getting them on my email. However, I almost never read them. This means I have thousands of emails I should have deleted in the past years (nearly a decade). 

What would be the best way to go through this, though, and is it worth it?

I'm always reading the important stuff. And I do much of my correspondence through Facebook and Skype nowadays, unless it's for work.

This requires further thinking.

It's hard to keep going. The adrenaline that got me started has already begun to wear off. However, it IS nice to see the boxes of books to be sold or donated (if they don't sell) and in either case, soon to be out of my place.

A Bit Discouraged

I didn't get a single answer to the craigslist ad I put up. I put up another one, with the added books I found and listed.

I'm giving it a little longer, and I'm piling up the books in the corner of my room, but I'm starting to think that I can't do anything with these books except give them away.

At least I've gotten some sorting done, and I'm slowly separating the books that I don't want to keep. I still have more to go through, though! I love books, I really do, but it is just a small part of a bigger problem. I need to keep going through my things, taking out what I don't use, and finding something to do with them.

On the Books

See? I obviously have a problem. I'm swimming in books! One of my majors in college was creative writing, and reading is a strong part of any creative writing program. 

I loved my classes, and I love the books. But I look at my bookshelf, and I feel these books are overshadowing the books I truly want to read. I love genre fiction - fantasy, mystery, science fiction. Even chick lit and romance. 

I'll be posting more books in the days to come. So many! I think many will end up donated. But it's so overwhelming; I'm not sure what to get rid of, and what to sell, and for how much. That's why I set a low straight price of $2/book. Otherwise, I'd end up spending all my free time doing price comparisons online.

Trash, Treasure, or Something in Between

I have too much stuff. It's clogging up the corners of my room, it's piling up in places in my living room. Every time I buy something new, I have that nagging worry that I'd have to find someplace to store it. Every time I get a present, I worry I won't be able to properly store it, and if it's cute and decorative, I have no where to display it.

I live in the NYC metropolitan area, and apartments are tiny and I need to be able to move when necessary.

So I'm carefully culling all the things I don't need. I have a box of yarn I haven't touched in more than 2 years. I have books that I haven't read and have no plans of reading. I have furniture given to me by old roommates, my mother, some friends. I've always believed in accepting free swag, and "saving" things that other people are throwing away, but it's gone too far.

Everything I don't need will need to be sold, thrown away, or given away. I've never done anything like this, so I'd love any advice or comments.

I'll be posting the items here and some comments about the items, and they'll also be on New York City Craigslist. If you're interested in anything, just let me know! Send me a message, and I'll get back to you ASAP. I'll also let you guys know what happens to the items.

Any advice (about selling, cleaning, culling, etc.) and stories would be most welcome.
