“I’m at Zohairy. Room 921. I can give you a full report once you arrive. The nurse is giving me this look.“ The line is then cut, leaving Fareeha on a dial tone. Arriving would reveal Aizad to be in a hospital bed, his torso wrapped in bandages and a large patch over his left eye. He waves his arm, also covered in bandages. “Sorry for the trouble, Captain.“

“So the calmer of the..“ He paused, staring as the two young puppies wiggled all over the place at the new visitor in their home. “Nevermind, they’re both not very calm right now. The orange collar is Khalid and the green collar is Mesi.“

“You know, you’re actually the first one of us to visit me since the mission.“ He laid alone in his hospital bed, gazing at his bandaged leg. After the mission against Talon and ‘saving‘ Chloé’s life, Aizad had been transferred to a nearby hospital for care. While it had only been a day, it still felt disheartening that no one had visited him yet. Except for Okoro. He was an exception, all things considered.
{ Due to his background as a sniper, Aizad is rather good at shooting. While he wasn’t the best sniper out there, his skills were easily transferable to hand guns and such. Once he’s done with his paperwork, it isn’t surprise him to find him practicing in the shooting range until after hours. He feels he needs to in order to not let his new team down. }

Fareeha smiled softly and nodded, ❝She really is…❞ And that was really all she had to say about it. For now. Then— she smiled slyly and looked down at the plants she was tending to. ❝So… what about you? Anyone out there that’s caught your attention? Or are you still pining for Okoro?❞
At the mention of his own special one, Aizad nearly dropped his pot. The dirt within fell and caked his pants, but thankfully it didn’t have a plant in it yet. His cheeks turned a visible shade of red, a mixture of embarrassment and of the topic. “I...I still feel for him greatly. Though things have taken an...an interesting turn. He lives with me now. In the spare room.”

Fareeha sighed in defeat. She knew if she kept trying to change the subject, Aizad would just return the questions in full force. There was no winning for her, cornered— like a damn animal. ❝Her name’s Angela and she’s just…❞ She gestured vaguely, unable to describe how she felt about her in words.
He blinked in surprise at the gesture before barking out a laugh. “Oh man, that is a sentiment I understand completely.” Without removing his glove or patting off her dirt, Aizad clapped his hand upon Fareeha’s back. “Well, to have caught your eye, I’m sure this Angela is one hell of a woman.”

I was on duty most of the time!❞ She argued, mock offense in her voice. ❝Anyways I just… I dunno, she just… She’s there when I need her and she listens to me when I need to talk about something. She’s very understanding and… And that’s all you’re getting out of me.❞
“Being on duty doesn’t stop a small flirt here or there. Just look at Saleh’s track record.“ His laugh was light and airy as he moved another plant over. It was always a joy when Fareeha was in town. A small pout appeared on his face at his friend’s defensive stand. “Aw, c’mon Fareeha. You know I’m not going to say a thing to anyone. Besides, I don’t know her. What could I do? So what’s her name?“

“I didn’t remember your face. There was enough going on and we’d barely met. And I’m not asking you to explain everything, I just—your behaviour doesn’t make sense.”
“Easy answer for you. It doesn’t have to make sense. Even if you don’t understand, my thoughts that day are clear to me. And it’s not something that I have to share.“ With that, he rises from his seat and grabs his jacket, heading for the door.

“And yet it would have spared you a lot of trouble—and potentially pain—if you had. You say you ‘decided’ but that implies a level of rational thought. However, situations in which a person’s life is threatened provokes a natural fight or flight response. Most would choose flight. There is no time for fully rational thought, only instinct.”
“Listen, what I did that day doesn’t matter. You didn’t even remember, Saleh probably doesn’t give a shit. Who knows! But I know that I don’t have to explain anything of what I do to a damn terrorist. I decided to save your life that day. Don’t make me regret it even more than I already do.“

Fareeha put the gloves on and followed Aizad’s lead, she started to get the hang of it pretty quickly. Upon his question, she laughed nervously, ❝Someone to call special? Well… maybe, I dunno… I haven’t told her yet, if I’m being honest. I’ve been pretty busy lately.❞
“Oh ho~? So you have found someone. That’s good. What’s she like? She must be someone very special to catch your eye. You turned away quite a few while on our team.“ Despite his teasing, Aizad was truly happy. Even though they never really talked much, he considered Fareeha a sibling to him. He had to tease to show his joy.

“That explains a lot. Well, tell Saleh if you think it will mean so much to him. Otherwise, I’ll be forced to follow the logic you’ve presented and that is for some reason you thought putting my life above yours was better than letting me die in that building.”
“To be honest, I haven’t seen him in days. I haven’t exactly been at work recently but that’s besides the point.“ A sigh. “If I had truly put my life above yours that day, i doubt I would be standing here speaking with you. I just decided that I couldn’t let you die.“

“So your first thought before you were potentially about to be blown up was of someone other than yourself? Do you usually play the hero or are you just lacking a sense of self-preservation?
“And I don’t understand it either so unfortunately I can’t help you with that.”
“I may work for a private security firm, but I was, and still am, a soldier. Putting others lives above my own is second nature at this point.“

“Mostly just some repotting. All of the plants in this greenhouse are starting to outgrow their homes.“ He handed her a pair of gloves before putting on his own. He opened a bag of soil and began to show her what to do. “So, find anyone to call special?“

“It sounds like you’re either really humble or you didn’t do it for him.”
“I did do it for him. I know how much he likes you, even though I don’t understand why.“

“I was hardly expecting you to the first time.”
“It still doesn’t change the fact that I did. I don’t even know why. Saleh doesn’t even know what I did.“
