Tales of the Abyss Au where Luke is stuck in a wheelchair because Van is an even bigger douchebag child abuser who deliberately cut up Luke’s legs so he could never walk before bringing him back to Fabre Manor to make the whole traumatic memory loss even more believable than it already was and to make Luke even more dependent on him in the long run.
Luke is a stubborn and Determined little shit and he’s gonna walk no matter what anybody tells him otherwise, even if it was only for a few minutes, even if he fell constantly,even if he has to use crutches and it’s painful and he hurts himself trying the first couple of times.
But he does it.He can only walk with crutches,and only for short periods of time,the rest of which is spent in a wheelchair.One that Guy enjoys messing with.One that Guy made a little fon tech engine for, so that Luke wouldn’t have to be pushed when he was too tired to move himself, because Luke HATES when other people come up up and start wheeling him around, because it makes him feel like a burden, like nobody thinks he can take care of himself.
He especially hates when Natalia comes and drags him around the manor to get him to spend time with her,and dotes on him and treats him like he’s incapable of taking care of himself.He knows she doesn’t mean it to come off that way, that shes trying too hard to be helpful,and they fight about it all the time,and she says she’ll stop doting, but she still backslides because she cares.
And then Vans is visiting, because the Fon Master has gone missing, and he wanted to inform Luke that he wouldn’t be able to visit for awhile, as he must search for him. Luke asks Van to show him some sword techniques before he leaves.They go to the courtyard.Guy and Van have a mock duel for Luke to enjoy.
Tear shows up.And Luke was close enough to Van after the match ended that he was able to grab Vans sword while he’s on his hands and knees.
And then the Game really starts.
