For all my fellow writers/authors out there!
This is one of my fav websites when it comes to world building and creating characters.
I'm not getting payed or sth for "advertising" for it, I just think it's a really useful website that I wanted to share with you guys. Based of my own experience.
I've created my own species a really long time ago and I even gave them their own religion and language. But that was more or less all they had, when it comes to culture. And I struggled a LOT with finding actual useful tips for creating an own culture on the internet.
That is until I stumbled over this website by pure luck. I still can't believe I was able to create the entire base of a new, own culture in less than a day with the help of it.
And I'm still using said base, expanding on it more and more, now that I know where I want to go with it.
I hope this website can help others just as much as it helped me. And if you have any other useful things to add, feel free to do so!
writing about groups of characters is crazy because at one point it's like "oh crap I forgot [character] was with them the whole time"
Angry Confession
"I love you! I have always loved you. It's not fair to deny my love for you now."
"You make me so angry I want to scream, and I love you so much it almost tears me apart."
"I cannot change my feelings for you, believe me I fucking tried."
"How can you not understand how much I love you?"
"I am so angry right now, I could almost forget my love for you."
"I can't do this anymore. I love you. But it's not enough."
"Don't mock me by acting so surprised. You had to know about my feelings for you."
"You make me so angry sometimes. And you make me love you all the time."
"I need to know that you're safe. Because I care about you. I love you."
"You knew how I feel about you. You have to have known."
"Can you not see that I love you? That I've always loved you?"
"I love you! Is that what you wanted to hear? Are you happy now?"
"It's not a secret that I love you. Don't act like it is."
"My love for you will truly become my downfall, I just know it."
"I fucking love you, okay?! I don't want to, but I do."
If you like my blog and want to support me, you can buy me a coffee or become a member! 🥰
I DID IT
I haven't finished the book yet; I've still got about three chapters left to write. But I crossed the 50,000 word hurdle!
I AM SO CLOSE

*makes character* hehe. haha *fucks them up so bad* Oh no. who could have done such a thing
I've accidentally written 4,000 words in the last 4-ish hours (I did write more but my characters went off-script and I had to delete some to get them back on track) and my NaNoWriMo wordcount has just passed 46,000 total words. I could legitimately finish this very soon!
My characters are little fucking shits.
I've had to re-plan the end of my NaNoWriMo novel three times because my characters keep going so far off-script that there's no way I can take them back to the originally planned timeline.
AND THEY JUST DID IT AGAIN.
Normally I'd delete and re-write it the way I had planned but because the 30th is coming in fast, I don't have time to mess around doing re-writes right now.
On a positive note, it gives me a little challenge to just go with the flow and hope it can still come to a satisfying conclusion AND this new direction is more exciting to write, so... we'll see!

Chapter nine featuring I don't know what yet but it's going to be fun
I am fine 😂
I think I might actually be able to complete NaNo this year?????
Brain: *vividly imagines next scene so passionately the body can only sit and stare at a dot on the wall while it is happening*
me: cool, now let's write it down
Brain: write what down?
I DIDN’T WRITE FOR A WHOLE WEEK AND I AM SO FAR BEHIND
I’ve spent the last two days typing like my life depends on it and I am suffering
I wrote so many words today for NaNo. It felt like at least 4,000 words
When I checked it was actually around 1,500 🙃
I keep seeing people making fun of using growled, hissed, roared, snarled etc in writing and it’s like.
have you never heard someone speak with the gravel in their voice when they get angry? Because that’s what a growl is.
Have you never heard someone sharply whisper something through the thin space of their teeth? Or when your mother sharply told you to stop it in public as a kid when you were acting up/being too loud? Because that’s what a hiss is.
Have you never heard a man get so blackout angry that their voice BOOMS through the house? Because that’s what a roar is.
Have you never seen someone bare their teeth while talking to accentuate their frustration or anger while speaking with a vicious tone? Because that’s what snarling is.
It’s not meant to be a literal animal noise. For the love of god, not every description is literal. I get some people are genuinely confused, but also some of these people are genuinely unimaginative as fuck.
This for real. Alllllllll of this. All of these sounds are the way different people speak based on their emotions. A snarl is not going GRAWR like a dog. It's so furious their teeth are bared, every syllable sharp and cutting and loud. A growl is lower, the words dangerously rough and hot, a warning.
It's the same with softer sounds. A purr is that low, gravelly mmmmm noise of pleasure, or words warm and smooth as melted chocolate. When someone chirps, it's bright and happy and quick, the syllables a little clipped in excitement. Panting is not tongue lolling like a dog; it's a heaving chest and words that are half-breath.
This is what language, what storytelling IS. It's symbolic, it's imagination, it's metaphor and analogy and simile. Strip that away and all you have is textbook descriptions, which are of course useful when reading actual textbooks, but far less entertaining when reading a goddamn fictional story.
Almost at 11k words for NaNoWriMo!
It’s absolute trash so far but I keep muttering “It’s just a first draft,” to myself so I won’t get caught up in the details and reach a roadblock
I’ve attempted NaNo at least 6 times since 2010 and I’ve never actually completed it so maybe this will be the year 😅
