CADUCEUS WAND OF HERMES The caduceus wand was a symbol attributed to the Greek god Hermes. It's composed of a staff with two serpents entwined about it, and wings at the top (not shown here). The two serpents symbolize polarity. Among other things, this polarity is an exchange. After all, Hermes was the messenger of the gods. And communication is an "exchange" of information. It involves both the one speaking and the one listening. Communication unites two minds. Hermes also governed commerce, which is an exchange of goods and money between people. Again, it connects two people. As a psychopomp, he connected the living and the dead. The serpents thus symbolize duality, exchange of energy, and the wings transcendence of duality. The central staff also represents the spinal column and the dual energies of the body. There is also a certain sexual symbolism that may involves the sublimination of sexual libido. After all, sex unites two people. Furthermore, this symbol is associated with the planet mercury in alchemy, which is neither a solid nor a liquid. It transcends and unites both qualities. Again, the serpents symbolize polarity and the wings the transcendence. I believe there may be some deeper mysteries here yet to be uncovered. #caduceus #occultism #occult #magick #hermetic #rosicrucian #mysticism #alchemy #hermes

ALL-SEEING EYE MEANING This is a symbol I get asked about quite a bit. In order to understand it's meaning, we will have to delve a little bit into the history. First of all, the eye has been used in many cultures to represent the Divine-- often solar deities. For example, the Egyptians had the Eye of Horus and the Eye of Ra. The Babylonian Sun god Shamash was depicted as an all- seeing god of justice and his symbol resembles an eye. The Irish deity Balor had his eye knocked por whilst battling his grandson Lugh, and his eye became the Sun. There are many instances in which this symbol us representative of the Sun. In fact, the astrological glyph for the Sun is a circle with a dot in the center--a primitive eye. Hence, the associations with Light and the Sun is very ancient and deeply rooted. Jumping forward a bit, the symbol was later adopted by the Catholic Church to represent the omniscience of God. The meaning is that God sees everything and is watching over us. The Church added the triangle around the eye to symbolize the Trinity. This gives us the form we are more familiar with today. Examples of this symbol used thus can be found in many ancient churches around the world. Over time, this symbol, known as the Eye of Providence, became a universal symbol for the watchful eye of God. The Divine is watching over us is the essential meaning. It has been used by many groups of people and cultures for this. What about the associations with freemasonry? Actually, this is not a Masonic symbol per se. It's a symbol used in masonry as well as by many other groups. Quite simply, this was a popular symbol at the time the symbols of masonry were developing. So, although masons use it, it's not a particularly Masonic symbol. What about the illuminati? Actually, the symbol for the Bavarian Illuminati, despite popular misconception, was the Owl of Minerva. The owl symbolized wisdom and insight. There is no evidence they had any particular fondness for the Eye of Providence symbol. This symbol is also related to enlightenment, seeing reality (open eye), knowledge, and awakening to the truth. The eye is open to symbolize this knowledge. Further, as a symbol of the Sun, it refers to Light, and light gives us the ability to "see" with our eyes. Further, and lastly, the triangle represents manifestation, and the open eye within it is perception. It reflects a Universal Principle that our view of the world actually manifests our reality to an extent. There are many other things that can be said of this symbol, but this is a brief overview. Again, the most basic meaning is that the Divine is watching over us. Hence, it's called the Eye of Providence. #allseeingeye #illuminati #freemason #freemasonry #occultism #occult #magick #hermetic #rosicrucian #mysticism #alchemy

Leviathan Cross (AKA Crux Satanas) The Leviathan Cross is an old alchemical symbol for Sulphur, the fiery, masculine, and active princIples of nature. The symbol features a double cross above an infinity sign or double ouroboros. The symbol was adopted by Anton Lavey and is used by the Church of Satan to be an emblem of Satan. Hence, this symbol is also referred to as the Crux Satanas (Satanic Cross). It is this used parody of the Christian cross with clear phallic associations. The double cross is a symbol of duality having it's origin in the infinite, symbolizes by the infinity symbol. The last named symbol also reflects cycling, ever recurring cycles (double ouroboros), ebb and flow, etc. #occult #occultism #magick #witch #witchcraft #satan #satanism #alchemy
Hand of Glory A grisly magical charm popular with thieves in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, the hand of glory was a candle made from the dried hand of an executed criminal. Through a complicated recipe, the hand would be carefully mummified, and then joined to or turned into a candle using tallow from a hanged corpse. Set alight, the hand was reputed to have the power to render the occupants of a household insensible, making burglary a simple task. This is definitely one of the more gruesome examples of practical occultism. #witch #paranormal #occult #occultism #witchcraft
KETHER. Kether is the first and top sphere on the Qabalistic Tree of Life. Kether is the Ground of Being and the Source of all things. It is the all-transcendent Unity. Often referred to as "the Not," it's the absence of "things." There are no distinctions in Kether. To use an analogy, although colorless, all colors spring from It. It is limitless potential. Being all-transcendent, Kether is above all activity. It is symbolized by the point. CHOKMAH. The next sephirah, Chokmah, represents a rush of energy. It is analogous to the Big Bang, but not literally. It's just an analogy. It is expansive energy, having it's Source in Kether. While Chokmah is active in the sense of a rush of energy, it's still undefined and without distinctions. BINAH. Binah, the third sephirah, represents Form. It takes the energy of Chokmah and provides it with structure, definition. Form is the beginning of definition and distinction. As such, it introduces the principle of duality. Within structure and form, you can begin to see differences. As such, Eve came out of the side of Adam in the mythology. Binah is called the Mother, because form is the beginning of "things." It's also signed to the planet Saturn. Saturn represents limitation (as a structure with delineated boundaries and shapes). Binah represents both space and time. It is structure. Chokmah and Binah together represent force and form. And both have their roots in Kether, the Ground of Being. To use an analogy, if there were an engine, Binah would represent the actual motor and it's shape, form, etc. Chokmah would be the fuel or energy that runs the motor. As Force and Form, they also are the capitals of the two opposing pillars of the Tree of Life which encapsulate these PrincIples. You have the Pillar of Force and of Form (Jachin and Boaz), with the Pillar of mildness in between them.
This is the symbol for the magickal Order A.'.A.'., or Silver star, an initiatory magical order formed by Aleister Crowley and his friend George Cecil Jones. The outer portion, the septagram, is the symbol of the outer order, and represents the ceiling of the Vault of the Adepti (5=6 grade, G.D.), and the symbol of Babalon, a holy name of Binah. It corresponds to the High Priestess of the Tarot, whose title in Thelemic Tarot decks is “Priestess of the silver star.” Using the Hebrew system of gematria, the name Babalon enumerates to 156.
