Imagining Henry watching Richard from across the quad before he joined the Greek class—having heard about how he asked Julian to join and was turned down—observing him as he’s talking w/ Judy. He’s animated, smiling, joking, but then they say goodbyes and Judy turns to go on her way; as soon as her back is to Richard, the smile just falls from his face, leaving an absolutely impassive countenance devoid of life. Total flat effect, and that occurrence is what stirred Henry’s initial curiosity about him.
