Hey everyone, so you know organizations like UNICEF and whatnot that allow you to buy the kind of gifts where you donate mosquito nets or something in a person’s name?  Well a lot of those organizations will let you donate vaccines, as it turns out.  Like, right now on UNICEF’s site, providing 100 polio vaccines to kids in need is 19 USD.  And I’m not saying you should buy it and then send a card to an anti-vax relative saying you’ve provided lifesaving vaccinations in their name, but actually that’s exactly what I’m saying

So sad to see my old ice rink being torn down. I spent the better part of my childhood here. I met amazing people and had some amazing experiences. It’s unfortunate that the original owners and my good family friends had to sell the place due to Parkinson’s. After that the place fell into the wrong hands and ultimately the end of my former sanctuary. Poor Miss Lola Lumps has to go to the vet last night. Poor girl having major tummy issues. She was so lethargic she barely made a fuss when the vet was poking & prodding her. She ended up with 30ml of fluids for dehydration & some pain relief. Poor girl has to go back tomorrow for blood tests & an ultrasound. Also found out she needs practically all her teeth out. Her teeth have been a source of concern since not long after we got her. I’m now convinced I accidentally bought her from a puppy mill breeder. At the time I thought I did all the right things to make sure she was a legit breeder, the only weird thing was she wouldn’t let us meet at her house and meet the mother. She met us in town to “deliver” Lola. We brushed it off at the time. I was only 19 and bought her for my Mum. I’ll never make that mistake again. I also don’t think she was breeding proper toy poodles. Lola is so tiny (2.4kg) not at all the right size for a regular toy, more like a teacup toy. I also suspect some inbreeding since she’s had some genetic issues through the years (double rows of teeth etc). I hope that “breeder” has retired. Today’s #figureskaters don’t know how lucky they have it. I remember watching @lucindaruh’s programs on VHS obsessively with my best friend then trying to recreate her beautiful spins at practice. There was no youtube to look up our favourite skaters, we had a group of skaters to share/swap our coveted VHS’s with. After watching enough of Lucinda’s spins I managed to teach myself a Biellmann, my favourite accomplishment to date even 17 years later. Safe to say our coach was shocked when my BF & I debuted our new spinning skills to her during lessons.
