— THE POOLSIDE ON campus is perhaps not the most conventional place to hang out after school; yet, the way the water feels as she dips her legs in soothed her, grounded her, a quiet serenity that needs no further explanation. What is water if not the primordial birthplace where all off humanity derived — from their biological ancestors, to the womb. It just comes automatic. Still, the winter time was not the most ample time of year to get her feet wet; it’s a miracle that hasn’t gotten sick yet.
An even greater miracle was that the First entertained Reze’s idiosyncrasies, making it a habit to accompany her &. her impulses. With a single motion, Reze splashes the other’s leg with water, giggling as she does so; &. after a brief moment of hesitation, the First splashes back, a weaker current contrasting against Reze’s lapping wave.
The wind picks up again then, disrupting their peace, &. by instinct, Reze wraps her arms around herself, rubbing her hands against her cardigan for warmth. Her hair flies around in several different directions, covering most of her face in a cloud of black &. dark purple hues ( well, more concealed than her typical messy fashion ). This went on for over a minute. Over several rough minutes.
‘When does it end…?’ As if reading her mind, the wind stops &. settles for a languid breeze. Not exactly a return to form, but at least to a cold that was bearable — the water felt warm &. she was no longer shaking; but, Reze’s hair remains a mess.
Until the First brushed Reze’s hair away from her face, pushing her bangs behind her ears. Softly. Gently. Her fingers were deft in fixing Reze’s appearance as she brushed from her scalp down to her ends, calm &. cool, with affection &. care. ‘So soft…’ Perfectly comfortable, she shut her eyes then, breathing slowly as goose flesh rose from her arms, from her legs, sinking further into the First’s gentle spell. Inhale. Her forehead was bare, &. for once, she did not mind the change in style.
Then… the sensation ceased. Exhale. Green eyes fluttered open &. met with ruby red, staring at her with a blank though kind gaze. Her kind gaze… It was easy to miss; but, Reze notices her subtleties — like the small crinkle in the corner of one eye as both eyes squeeze slightly, unable to express joy fully but only in small bursts. It’s an expression that brings Reze comfort. She offers her own smile in kind.
“We should probably go someplace more… warm, ne?” A rational suggestion; however, the wistful look in her eyes as she stares off into the distance betrays her smile. She doesn’t dare speak her true thoughts aloud, fearing the possibility of being heard; so, she leans her head to rest against the First’s shoulder, the motion made her bangs once again fall over her face, lifting one leg away from the water to rest against cold concrete.
“Where else should we go?” Anywhere but home.
