That to be a musician, or to be an artist, was not just a privilege — it was a responsibility. There was a duty. I think that each individual carries a responsibility of remembering and sharing those memories with others. I feel like I'm making space for us to co-share our collective memory. That might feel like museum-making, but I think there are other institutional forms besides museums where that kind of memory storage can live — whether that's a house museum, the pictures on your iPhone, scrapbooking or contemporary works of art. What I'm interested in is loading people with the capacity to both remember great moments and chronicle them in a place.
