where â brittanyâs house.
when â friday night.
warnings â nothing, yet.
âI guess you could say youâre special.â He nodded, only just realising the weight of the comment and trying to downplay it, at least a little bit. This was another one of those times where him being too open and honest with people could also be perceived as being overly clinging, or committing to something far earlier than he should have. Being an âall in or nothing at allâ kind of guy had itâs downsides sometimes. Especially when you were in high school and most people your age werenât really interested in anything long term or permanent. He still wasnât sure exactly what it was that intrigued him so much about this girl, but he definitely didnât want to screw things up before he had the chance to try and work it out.
He watched on as she scribbled down something on a napkin, before smiling at the realisation that it was her number. Well, that was a step in the right direction. Without hesitation he reached into his pocket to take out his phone. There was no point in pretending he wouldnât message her at some point. Quickly, he saved the digits to his contacts, sending her a quick âHi,â in a text. âNow you canât forget me.â He stated, smile still etched onto his features. âOr get me confused with someone else.â The young man was sure there were plenty of guys seeking attention from her, he certainly didnât want to get muddled up with anyone else.
The blondeâs eyebrows shot skyward at her comment. âYour coach is that strict on you?â He questioned in surprise. He had known that some of the competition within the schools had been pretty tough, but they were all still kids at the end of the day. His coach wanted the boys to take everything on the field and during training seriously, of course, but he wouldnât have ever booted someone from the team, or replaced their position for enjoying a meal. That just seemed outlandish. His surprise was quickly replaced with a smirk though. âYouâre kinda a rebel, huh.â It was more a statement than a question, but he liked that she still didnât allow to be pressured. One cheat meal wasnât really going to kill anyone. The young man was sure he would be far more inclined to want to eat poorly if he wasnât allowed the freedom to do so on his own terms. He could also relate to wanting to do his best to work off tonight in the morning. âDo you have a specific path you normally run?â He asked curiously, maybe he could pick up running a route instead of on the treadmill.
Sam was happy that she had enjoyed her meal, though had a dread that this was where their night would end, both full and satisfied with their meal, and that thought made him sad for a moment. Glancing around the diner, he tried his best to think of something that could stall them parting ways. There had to be something⌠Walking her home, of course! Why he hadnât thought of that he didnât know. Humming as if having to think over it for a moment, he slowly slipped out of the booth. âMmm, I think I could spare a little more time to walk you home.â He tried to make it seem as if he wasnât too eager, but the smile that broke onto his face betrayed him. Quickly he paid the bill, thanking Marley once more before holding open the door for the pair to leave. âLadies first.â He waited for her to exit and lead the way.
The air outside was cool in comparison to inside the diner, but not so much so that it was uncomfortable to walk. It was nice this time of night, everything seemed so peaceful in comparison to the day, the stars shining brightly above the pair. Looking over at Santana, he took a moment to study her features in the streetlights, he had really enjoyed his night. âYâknow, Iâm super glad I ended up going to that party. This has been one of the best nights Iâve had in a while.â
âWeâre champions,â she shrugged at him, âand nationals qualifiers will be coming up soon, so we gottaâ be at the top of our game. Plus, as head cheerleader, apparently I should be the one setting some kind of example, I donât know.â She rolled her dark brown eyes and smiled at him, knowing that he would understand somewhat coming from a football background. âOh, you donât know the half of my rebel behaviour,â she told him with a cheeky wink. Truthfully, she played by the rules most of the time. Hell, her position at the top of the pyramid meant that she made most of the rules. But the higher she was, the bigger the fall, so she tread carefully, to ensure there was no losing grip.
âTreadmill usually,â she informed him, âmy Dad saw in the news that there were dudes who wait in the bushes to try and grab girls who jog alone, so he doesnât like to let me do it now. So he bought me a treadmill and turned one of the spare bedrooms into a home gym.â It sounded so stupid when she said it out loud and it felt dumb admitting it to someone, but Sam had a strange way of making her feel at ease and completely disarmed. âIâm an only child, so my parents can be quite protective of me,â she explained, the corners of her mouth quirking up into a smile. She was a complete Daddyâs girl, totally spoiled only child.Â
She argued back for a moment about letting him pick up the tab. It wasnât technically a date and it had been half her idea to actually leave the party in the first place. But she quickly realised that it was futile to fight him on this. If there was a next time, she would pay for that one. She thanked Marley profusely, as she happily clutched her boxed up leftover food inside a plastic bag. This was her favourite time of the evening, when the stars twinkled above them and the world was quiet, still. âIâm glad you came outside and said hello,â she admitted honestly, before reaching over and lacing her fingers through his, walking quietly beside him, their joined hands swinging between the two of them. âI like parties and all, but you definitely spiced up my night. I had a lot of fun, getting food and getting to know you.âÂ
They walked quietly, making idle conversation, her to-go bag held tightly in her free hand. As they reached her house, she unlocked the door and went inside for a moment to turn off the alarm and drop the food off on the foyer side table. She quickly moved back outside to face him, weighing up her options. She wanted him to come inside and the cards would fall wherever they fell. It was a risky ask, he was a gentleman after all. But she was a teenage girl, somewhat drunk on vodka and her hormones were running wild that night.Â
Usually at one of these parties, she could have expected to have a quickie with Jake in the upstairs bathroom, her perched on the counter, legs wrapped around his waist. But tonight, sheâd ditched that plan and found something better. Turning to face him, she took a step forward and closed the gap between them. âMy parents are at a medical conference in Denver all weekend,â she informed him coyly, her hands moving to the front of his shirt, fiddling with the buttons on it. âDo you want to come in?â she asked, an eyebrow arched at him, as she pressed her body into his. âI mean, you can wait in here for your uber home, or...â she suggested, before pressing up on her tip toes to place a kiss on the skin underneath his ear.
