🚬✖️ Making a snowman
wip fanart for holiday season
Recent artwork, think abot make it to prints for this new year.
I know how Crunchyroll translated Rock!Stan's comment to Xeno, and I think they did it because of the way they've always translated Stan's catchphrase, but...
できるね...
できる generally means capable/able to do something. It's a verb. It's in plain form here, i.e. unconjugated. In Japanese, this has a lot of uses--generally, for Stanley, because he's using it as a casual form, b/c he's...Stan, and that's how he talks.
It's also present (and future, and habitual, because Japanese hates you)
ね usually means something close to "Right?" or "Don't you think?" or "Innit?" But it also does a lot of other things, and one of those things is to make something a request. Like "You'll take me to school, yeah?"
Because Japanese is Japanese, a lot of the time the subject of sentences get dropped. In this case, there is no verb.
And...I don't know. To me it sounded like Rock!Stan was, instead of going, "I can do it," like usual, was going, "You can handle it, can't you?"
For StanXeno JP fandom this word also like love language between this two not just normal catchphrase like Senku's or Xeno's.
Adding this in that scene is super gay lol
I saw some scream that this might be the mantra for Xeno to endure his loneliness all those years they seperate. It always Stanley who said できるね for Xeno and done everything for him and for the sake of his happiness and now it's Xeno to do everything to bring Stanley back or make sure that when he's come back he'll be pround of him.
For those want to know about how much time pass for Suika arc. From Dr. Stone fanbook (for anyone didn't know what fanbook is, it's not book create by fan it's 'book for fan' publish by Shueisha all the data provide by the author, Inagaki, himself.)
This will be a rant no need to read or if you read and not this kind of people don't offence by it.
So many western fan of this fandom is such ignorant there's many info that Jump or author give us but they not believe it and think they know better, some even say those info is in foriegn language so they'll just ignore it lol.
Some think that Suika is still 9 when secon worldwide petrification happen just because she's still short and no change on her apperance like you not understand about what character design is if there no huge time skip most of the character gonna be the same because that what their indentity nothing has to micro change if no revelent to the story, Suika grow up after wake up from petrification because it revelent and make it obvious how much time pass. So other character won't get that treatment because even time pass it minor and not important to waste time on new character design.
What more absurd is some think that what in the fanbook is not a correct source and fix believe in anime, while most of anime studio often said that they just another re-create version from original some even add filler to fill in air time or cut something out for flow of the story. This thing a bit sad but in some case the author has no say in how their story adapt in to anime, they might give some advice or info if the studio (if considerate enough) ask otherwise they have no clue how the anime will turn out.
Data from author should be the most accurate one that's how you respect the owner of the story. Dr. Stone and many manga/anime is different from western ongoing IP, there's no add on data cause it's end mean end.
Read some of the comments from Dr. Stone Orchesta Concert today and it seem StanXeno is flirting with each other so much lol
There's this exchange between them like this:
X : Stan, you can rescue the imprisoned princess right?
S : I can
The famous princess quote.
Xeno: Get yourself a man who will commit war crimes for you.
Everyone: Please don't.
You know how people are like "This character isn't a war criminal, they're from a fantasy world without the Geneva Conve—"
Stanley does not have that excuse. Stanley is a modern-day (ish) military officer from the United States of America after we signed the First Hague Convention. He is actually beholden to this one. He knows better.
So does Charlotte. FFS, girl.
Hm.
I actually wildly disagree with this.
Part of this is maybe Crunchyroll's translation choices; he didn't say "Kill them anyway," he said to disregard surrender. Which, yes, amounts to the same thing, but more focused on his subordinate's actions and evaluations and strategy than it is the kids dying.
Like, look, Stan committed a war crime, and I'm not glossing over that. But it's not because he doesn't give a fuck.
This is pretty much the only time Stan and Xeno are on different pages, and it's not because they're having a disagreement of values, it's because they have a different set of information they're working with. Xeno doesn't know Stan's out a radio, and Stan doesn't actually know what the KoS is cooking up, other than that Xeno's been warning him about it for a while.
Stan has also spent the last 100 days reminding his subordinates that these people might be younger than them, might be more idealistic than them, but they are smart and clever and capable of things that his subordinates are not willing to consider. A very harsh order to give his subordinates absolutely no leeway to lose because they once again fell for the kids puppy faces...makes sense. It's not okay, but it makes sense.
Because it's not just Xeno's safety and goals on the line here. He's got a whole cadre of soldiers, and, yes, he does want the KoS to lose. He's not behaving selfishly, imo. Not really.
It feels very Realpolitik more than anything.
And the only people he killed were enemy combatants. He refused parley with Gen, yes, which he's not supposed to do, but it's also true that perfidy is also a war crime because it does happen. He doesn't have a radio and I wouldn't want to get in throwing distance of them with a Who Knows What up their sleeve, either. And Stan's a sniper. Snipers are uniquely at risk of war crimes (summary execution), and there's no way that wasn't drilled into him.
I think it's less "he doesn't give a fuck" and more that Stan is, actually, very cautious and risk averse, and has been this entire arc. Stan doesn't say he can do things he can't, and he's very calculated in his tradeoffs and exchanges.
There's a thing, in swordfighting but in really any kind of brawls, where if your opponent is fighting to kill and you're fighting to get away or disarm...you are very likely to get hurt because you tried to play nice with someone who wasn't playing nice.
Stan follows the rules of war up until it's dangerous for him to do so, and even then he still sticks by most of them pretty closely. He doesn't touch the prisoners of war and claimed civilians until it becomes blatantly clear they're not civilians or bystanders and they start participating in the battle, even if not violently.
So, IDK. Stan definitely violates the code he holds himself to, but he does break it, as ever, in very calculated, precise, and minimal ways. Minimizing causalities, as Xeno would point out.
It doesn't make what he did okay, and he shouldn't have done it, but he's not a ruthless monster for doing it.
This is a good read and I want many read this.
Many people who read (or watch) Dr. Stone seem to have misunderstand Stanley character, he's not just killing machine but well the story quite rush since America Arc so it's not give proper detail to many character.
As for Gen's white flag, well it's wrong for them to refuse that but I think it tied to what happen when Gen their prisoner. Stanley can see how dangerous he is with his diplomatic and can't be sure if it's just another plan to make them let their guard down or not.
Again what America's group do is wrong but if switch to their perspective there's reason behind that action.
Spoiler for SS4 EP20
I can't believe many in Reddit blame Suika for her action, like what you expect from this kind child lol Her action is what make her better than American group right now. I understand that people can say she's too kind or stupid to do it but her action is not to blame.
Next thing is so morally grey but what people expect from Stanley group lol someone say he has no right to shoot the trio but they a threat to his group at that time (and an enemy). And they not a kid like many other see them, they already into adulthood. I'm not saying what he's doing is right but what people expect him to do, just surrender and let KOS win? That's what not they made of, sure what they do is too violence but that's what they react when enemy attack. I'll repeat again in case someone still not understand, seeing in his perspective he has right to react that way but his action is too violence.
Most of all if people want someone to blame /point finger at Xeno/ He's my fave but I still blame him for every disater happen in this arc.
