Rare Serious (and slightly political) post for a sec, especially for my fellow LGBTQ+ peeps in the UK. This is probably going to be a tough one to get through but please keep reading.
This page is part of our consultation on our code of practice for services, public functions and associations.
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) has opened a public consultation on the changes they're proposing to the Equality Act 2010 based on the recent Supreme Court ruling (don't think I need to clarify which one here tbh) - if you can, I would highly recommend responding to this on the impact this will have on trans, non-binary and gender non-comforming people as well as the wider LGBTQ+ community in the UK. (tl;dr: this goes well beyond disregarding acquired gender, they're effectively removing protections for anyone who isn't straight, gay or bi as well)
The consultation closes on June 30th and is 52 questions if you respond to all proposed changes listed - I also recommend taking breaks while you do this and practicing additional self-care too (don't rage complete it at your work desk like I did, it'll feel a million times worse).
We can't let these bigots have their way. Take care of yourselves and one another.
- a very angry and emotionally exhausted non-binary person 🖤
