Today’s post arises from a conversation I’ve been having with Patrick Cappadocia on Facebook. It started with this article from the Guardian, which claims that Russia is stoking refugee unrest in …
Feminism, communism, and the cold war from The Judgy Bitch. I strongly recommend reading this column. For obvious reasons. =)
“It’s only the last 10 years that have seen feminism turn from being about confiscating male resources to actually destroying masculinity. When you consider it, that’s a stupid strategy. If the goal is to force men to turn over more and more of their resources to women, it makes no sense to undermine men’s ability or interest in providing resources.
The destruction of masculinity leaves us incredibly vulnerable to aggressors.”
Masculinity Is A Paper Tiger
Damn this person is fucking stupid. Women gaining rights has corresponded with drastic increases in the labor force, utterly undermining the entire premise of the article, and is a, uh, pretty basic fact that should’ve been taken into account. And traditional women’s work is marginally important to capitalism? Sooo reproducing the capitalist family is suddenly unimportant to capitalism??
Did you know that there’s a MASSIVE gap between men and women in college? To the tune of just shy of 20% and it’s expected to grow.
There’s a tidal wave of uneducated and under-educated men that’s about to crash into our workforce. We’re talking about a gap so massive that you could take every man, woman, and child in St. Louis and it *still* wouldn’t equal the number of men who are disproportionately lacking an education.
And that’s every single year.
You think that sort of thing doesn’t have an impact on a nations productivity? On a nations competitiveness? Not at all? Not even a LITTLE BIT?
I’m not so sure that’s due to feminism as much as it is to the often shoddy personal choices (or unfortunate circumstances) of young men. Don’t forget that without American women, we’d probably all be nazis
You seem to forget that (IIRC) 30 years ago, the situation was the inverse, with women being 20% behind men, and it was a huge issue at the time. Now? Barely a peep.
Also, as I’m sure Cap can provide, this disadvantage is at all levels. From when they start school as a small child to when the finish at whatever level. How is it their choice when they are a child?
Okay, explain to me the sexism dynamic in elementary schools? Because yeah
It has been shown that female teachers will mark a males work harsher than a females work when they know the genders. However, when it becomes anonymous of who the teacher is marking, it evens out. And this even applies to hard cut things like mathematics. That is, unless the boy behaved like a girl. If they showed stereotypical signs of a young male, they get shafted. (also, wasn’t this original article talking about the feminisation of men? Why, I think it was!) http://ideas.time.com/2013/02/06/do-teachers-really-discriminate-against-boys/ Here is an article from 2013 talking about said issue. Or how about how the current education system uses a method (for teaching reading) which allows girls to benefit from it more than boys… But that there is an alternative that betters both boys and girls, but because it benefits boys more, it isn’t used. I don’t have a source on hand (I’m on mobile as it is), but I do know that @mr-cappadocia has provided one before. And if we want to go the extra mile, and talk about teaching in general, how about the severe lack of male teachers? Are they not a vital importance to a child’s development? What if a boy is having trouble and needs a figure to talk to on an issue that he can’t confront his dad with and is uncomfortable with talking to a woman about? What about just a male teacher to be able to help boys by giving the other teachers insight to the way young boys think? Then there is the sexism the male teachers themselves face with the extra scrutiny they receive in regards to how they interact with children. The current system of education is geared to benefit women.
You realize that more women choose to be teachers, right? The reason that job pool is limited to mostly women is because there are mostly women going to college for it. You also literally can’t grade multiple choice right or wrong shit subjectively??? Which is what most busywork or most tests are?
Oh, so the extra scrutiny that men face totally isn’t a deterrent? And now choices play a role again. With how much you are spouting feminist-like arguments, let’s bring that around. Apparently, women not getting hired or accepted into STEM fields are a case of sexism. But the same thing happening to men in teaching isn’t? Look, I agree with the whole “men’s choice” stuff, but there absolutely is a deterrent with the extra scrutiny.
Also, did you seriously make the claim that tests are mostly multiple choice? Did you actually go to school? English and Mathematics, especially at a young age group, are not mostly multiple choice. I think English tests are fairly self explanatory, but when being tested on Mathematics, a teacher is looking to see if a student knows how to work out the question. Anyone can use a calculator to get the answer. But a teacher is looking for the methodology just as much as the final result.
And for the record, most tests that I have done that include multiple choice are split into three sections. One third multiple choice, one third short answer, one third long answer/essay. Usually worth similar amounts of points.
And finally, when shown examples of boys getting the shit end of the deal, you either hand wave it away as men’s choices, or ignore it. I mean, you see a 20% difference where men are failing, that used to be the inverse where women were behind, an issue heavily tackled by Feminists, but refuse to accept that the problem could even slightly be related. Instead, it’s men’s choices, an excuse you’ve pulled out twice now.
I’m astounded at how resistant you are to challenging something that is the status quo. You’re grasping at straws because the alternative shatters your pre-conceived notions.
Pre conceived notions my ass. All I’ve heard my entire life is a bunch of bull shit about what girls are supposed to be and do. Standardized testing in the US is generally multiple choice. It definitely is in my state, regardless of the grade level. Women allegedly get treated like shit in the science field from what I’ve been told. And you know what? Maybe dudes are 20% behind because they’re 10% dumber and 10% not dedicated enough.
And there we have it. The degradation of males finally comes out.
You still ignore how men are unfairly scrutinized in teaching roles, but women supposedly being mistreated in STEM (a claim made from nothing but anecdotes) is an issue.
I mean, you literally just called males inherently inferior to women, despite evidence that shows how fucked the system is. Phonics would actually benefit girls over the current system of whole word. But because Phonics would benefit boys more than girls, we don’t use it.
But that doesn’t matter to you. After I explained it to you (which you asked for), you tried to hand wave it all away. Now after I didn’t let you do that, you attack men with a supremacist insult that “maybe men are dumber and lazier”.
But here is the final thing, and I really want you to really think about this. You are the sexist bigot here. When presented with evidence that contradicts your claims, you deny it and follow that up with a very discriminatory attack. I want you to think about that. Because you have become the very thing you are trying to fight against.
Unless you actually bring something new to the table, I think I’m done here.
Sorry I get sarcastic at 10 or 11 at night? But you’re trying to base your entire goddamn argument on how boys are treated like shit by the school system and how awful men have it in america because of how reading is taught to kindergarteners. Sorry if it seems a bit far fetched to have men complain to me about being treated unfairly when I have to deal with people nitpicking what I wear and what I do and what my body looks like every day of my life. Sorry if your problems don’t seem like a gigantic fucking deal to me when one of my closest friends has to deal with ptsd because a grown ass man couldn’t keep his disgusting hands off of a five year old girl.
We’re talking a generational literacy gap and you’re like “But muh clothings and teh peoples”.
Then, you go on to explain that hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of boys having their futures completely fucked isn’t really that big of a deal because some guy some where did something terrible to some girl you know a decade ago.
Now, here’s why you’re completely full of shit. Why you’re a straight up fucking liar.
If we presented you data that depicted women in our own country being 20% less likely to graduate from college you would lose your fucking mind.
If we presented you data that made it plain as day that not only were teachers favoring boys but that despite girls doing just as well they were being marked down explicitly because they were girls you would lose your fucking mind.
If we presented you data that made it plainly clear that not only were girls being discriminated against in the worst possible way from kindergarten on up, but that we knew there was a method that was better for boys and girls but intentionally taught the way that was worse for girls just to ensure boys maintained an advantage you would lose your fucking mind.
And then, if I said to you “I don’t really see this as a big deal because people give me shit about my clothes” you would lose your fucking mind.
See, you’re trying to pawn this off like you’re some kind of master troll but you’re really just a dumb motherfucker who happens to be a shitty person. A genuinely shitty person.
The kind of person that would trot out their friend getting brutally molested as a means to save face in an argument that had absolutely nothing to do with it but you needed something to cling to.
So you used them.
Like I said, you’re a shit human being. We’re done here.
Wow @rainboeninja, you seriously just used your friends molestation to try and deflect an argument. You should be fucking ashamed of yourself.
I don’t really have anything more to add after @rainboeninja’s use of her friend’s molestation that way, but I would like to point out that standardized tests are not terribly relevant to dIsham about whether boys are being heard more harshly than girls. Standardized tests are geared by impartial machines. Regular tests, she one has to show one’s work, are graded by humans.
Apparently since you people don’t get the point Meninism is garbage because all it does is make fun of people trying to solve real fucking issues such as the one mentioned above where people think they can do whatever the fuck they want to girls and not get caught. You are literally trying to debunk feminism by saying that feminists somehow got together and asked themselves, “how can we make the school system worse for those evil boys?!” And the only example you give is KINDERGARTEN READING LESSONS That is your ENTIRE FUCKING ARGUMENT. SMALL GOD DAMN POTATOES COMPARED TO RAPE. 1 in 5 boys under a certain age are doing shitty in school. 48% of all students versus *56*% of girls have been sexually harassed in school.
EXCUSE ME FOR NOT GIVING A SINGLE FUCK WHEN THERE ARE LARGER ISSUES AT HAND
Larger issues, how dare you, who the hell are you to judge what is or is not a larger issue. Intentionally crippling an entire genders education is not worth “a single fuck”. Look ask any of these guys @mr-cappadocia or @dontneedfeminism2 I guarantee you that they agree that the sexual harassment is an issue. The issue is we are bringing up another problem and you want to ignore it because... well at this point I don't even understand why.
Oh and for the record 56% of girls and 40% of boys are sexually harassed in schools, that's not the biggest difference in the world, so why gender the issue?
