I'm a queer girl living in the most conservative area of the US. I'm heartbroken. Antigay propaganda is everywhere here, billboards, signs, radios. It's so discouraging all the time. I feel like I'm not wanted by my own home, which I love. No one here, even my family, not even God, will ever love me for who I truly am. I'd have to leave. Everyone here is celebrating the election. They're HAPPY to be rid of people like me. I just can't see the point of trying so hard if it always ends like this.

I am so so SO sorry, sweetheart. No one should ever feel the way you are feeling right now. 

But let me make this as clear as possible: You ARE loved for who you are and there are countless others who will accept you for who you are. I know all too well how heart breaking it is to not be accepted by family and your community. That’s why I moved to where I am now. It’s hard to remember that there are so many people out there with big hearts that will love and accept and celebrate you when you’re surrounded by hate, but it’s true.

I know it’s incredibly unrealistic to tell you to just move. I dont know your age, your finances, your situation at all. but if you DO have the opportunity to move some place where you feel safer, please do. I know you love where you live, but you and your safety comes first. And if you can’t move, make connections online. Find like minded folk who value you. There’s lots of us, especially here on tumblr, who know JUST how you feel. Make your own little community, your own little family of love and acceptance.

Nothing I can say will take away the pain that comes from a family that doesn’t accept you. But try to remember that you are not alone, there is nothing wrong with you, and there are literal billions of people on this planet that are okay with you being who you are. From one queer lady to another, you are perfect just as you are and you deserve love and acceptance. Stay strong, sweetheart. It’s okay to be scared right now, it’s okay to be sad, it’s okay to be angry. But you mustn’t give up.
