It's not a coincidence. It's because she's an absolute hack who used to have artistic talent but now is a billionaire who relies on her past work to keep momentum. She gives 0 fucks about her current music and only writes it to stay on the charts, and little miss thang can't handle it when other people (especially women) begin to overtake her. Especially women of color, though she does it to white women, too.
She wants to paint herself as the Ultimate Victim of the Patriarchy when really she's been instrumental in keeping it afloat for years. But now Donald Trump has used her music TWICE on TikTok to promote his own dictatorship (the newest in which he declares the USA is an empire that belongs to him), and Taylor has nothing to say.
This isnât just cowardice, itâs support. Because we know by now that Taylor does not tolerate her music being used in any capacity that she doesnât approve of.

Anyone who says that Swift invented eras knows nothing about music history. Those aren't even eras they are albums. None of it comes close to Ziggy Stardust or Thin White Duke. I don't even know if I would give Bowie credit for musical eras either because I'm sure someone else did it before him. I am not an expert of music history so I won't make claims of inventing things.
Back in the 70s/80s and less commonly now, albums were entire stories told through music alone. Pink Floydâs The Wall. David Bowieâs Ziggy Stardust. More recently, Green Dayâs American Idiot and MCRâs The Black Parade. These albums spanned entire tours with costuming, thematic timing, props.
Usually the most Swift does is get costumes and choreo. Which is serviceable, I suppose, but media heralds this lady as âthe pop star with the erasâ when artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Katy Perry always had far more effort put into their live shows, probably with less money. Short nâ Sweet and Teenage Dream both had these big stage setups and it feels like every clip Iâve seen of Eras Tour is just like⊠Swift on a stage dancing?

You are capable of criticizing something and still enjoying it. Criticism should add to your enjoyment of the thing. Contextualizing and analyzing media is the only true sign that you enjoy it instead of just consume it. Now that Iâm actually sitting down and thinking about it is it not kind of fucking annoying that Taylor gets the title of âinventingâ eras?
The most dramatic shift she ever really did was from country to pop (which if you wanna get into theory territory may have been in the cards from the start of her career) but even then Red felt country-adjacent. Still lots of acoustic guitar and the âcountry accentâ hadnât completely slipped (though, side note, we really just let this woman put on a fake accent for like 5 years and then never addressed it? Lmao). But then you have artists like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard who will go from stoner rock to death metal and hardly get so much as a glance from popular music outlets.
Hell, even if you wanted to just stick to pop artists, Iâd argue Britney had a bigger shift than Taylor ever did. She went from âteeny bopper danceâ music to âcunty club dancingâ music pretty quickly if memory serves. What about Poppy? She went from bubblegum pop to metal! Peter Gabrielâs repertoire is also pretty vast if we wanted to reach back further.
No, what really defines the Taylor âerasâ are the costumes. Itâs the outfits from 22, You Belong With Me, Look What You Made Me Do, you donât need me to list all of them. The music for the most part all sounds similar, but sheâs able to deceive both her fans and music outlets somehow by just literally putting on a different hat. And thatâs⊠boring! For an artist who made her whole thing âreinventing myself every yearâ I want to see more from that, goddamnit! Maybe sheâd benefit from that âI wanna go to the club club club and dance dance danceâ song she claims sheâd never write, I donât know, but it would be more interesting than âpop but angryâ, âpop but Iâm a poet and sad nowâ, âpop that I stole from Sabrinaâs mouth and then got her to sign off onâ, just something!
