this is it puppy fans… the hiatus begins now. this strip is also a prequel to issue #5! a personal & fan favorite <3 and the title is a reference to my favorite (?) car seat headrest song.

thank you especially to the tumblr audience that's built up for this comic from basically nothing. i hugely appreciate all the rb's and kind words you all have shared on this platform. it really means a lot :,)

thank you for your support on puppys as a whole! i will miss drawing jimbo, lucy, watcher, squid, and gang in these comics for sure, but they will certainly not be forgotten.

let me know if you have thoughts on this issue, any past ones, or the comic strip as a whole. i’d love to know! :)

though “when” is hard to say, i do sincerely hope to revisit these characters with a renewed sense of vision and flair in the future.

cc ^ )___\ I love the story of how domestication of dogs started, mostly because it's such a perfect example of human compassion and the fact that we've always been this way

cc . )___\ The general consensus is that some wolves were born a little braver and a little friendlier to humans, and those wolves would hang out closer to humans to feed on their scraps. Except, these are small hunter gatherer tribes living under incredibly harsh conditions. These are humans who were not yet a dominant species or even apex predators. Humans directly competed with wolves for prey and wolves were probably not particularly opposed to eating the occasional human the same way they'd eat any other animal.

cc . )___\ When dogs were first domesticated every scrap of food a human could find was valuable, because they couldn't be sure when they'd be able to eat again. And even if you made it all the way to the bone and cracked it open to eat the marrow, you're going to drop the bone by your feet, because you're not going to wonder outside of your small family circle of firelight into the dark to go find a trash pile.
