meeting jenoâs best friend happened to be quite the normal experience. they shared many similarities, had grown together since birth, and even had parents who befriended each other throughout the years. the only oddball being that his best friend is a girl. of course, that didnât deter you, but, it definitely struck a nerve that you werenât willing to open up about.
jeno is the perfect boyfriend who never failed to express his undeniable attraction towards you â another girl in his life was the least of your concerns. recently, however, you had begun to notice weird patterns in your relationship. your love coming home late, leaving your messages on delivered, and failing to pick up the phone.
conversations with each other were running shorter every day. from long nights of catching up and holding each other to maybe a goodbye in the morning, you were growing increasingly concerned about the state of your relationship. so, naturally, when you had a free day together, you had decided to plan a whole day to yourselves as a couple.
âgood morning, baby,â you snuggled into his side as he began to shift in the bed.
he grumbled. not delighted to be bothered so early.
âcmon, are you hungry? we can make breakfast,â ignoring his clear sombre and deciding to lighten the mood.
âsure,â he replied shortly. âiâll meet you there.â
not wanting to upset him even more, you shuffled out of bed towards the kitchen. igniting the stove and beginning to cook for your boyfriend.
just months prior, jeno would be behind you, holding your waist and pressing his chest to your back. now he lay in bed, doing god knows what, ignoring the clear tensions present. realizing something was so utterly wrong with the boy you loved, tears began to cloud your vision.
before you could even clean yourself up after finishing the meal you had made specifically for jeno, he was stomping into the room dressed to go out.
âwhere are you going?â
âaway from here.â
you should be mad, yelling at him, and asking for a reason why he is acting so abnormal, but you canât bring yourself to it. a piece of you had already accepted you lost your boyfriend months ago when you had been messaged by his best friend that jeno wasnât interested in you anymore â even going as far as to send you a picture of them together.
of course, you didnât believe her at the time. they were hanging out as friends, right? but as you stared the boy you loved so dearly, you noticed all the signs you had missed.
the promise ring on his left hand, gone; the hickeys that were fading on his neck, poorly covered by your makeup; and a new cologne you had never smelt before.
it was clear you knew his response to your next statement. you continued on anyways.
âokay, drive safe, i love you.â
silence followed as he slammed the door behind him.
idol!jeno who spots you across the tables at an award ceremony wearing the tightest fitting dress that ultimately flares up the hormones inside him. you immediately catch his lustful gaze and get up to move to the bathroom, jeno sensing the message and undeniable tension in the room. before his members can make a comment, he is already pulling you into the bathroom with your hands wrapped around his tie. bending you over the sink while your group is being called to win an award but your too busy being fucked by lee jeno.

When Jeno first proposed, it was to you. As a joke, of course. The typical things teenagers do in their free time. Right?
You met Jeno in your high school chemistry class and had clicked since. Some would mistaken you as a couple but you were always quick to deny the accusations.
Considering that most saw you two as a couple, you had decided to take advantage of your relationship spontaneously to get free ice cream. The idea wasnât well prepared at all. Jeno had planned to propose in your local ice cream parlor and be rewarded with a sweet treat.
Well the two of you were clearly not aware how the plan would go.
âAre you sure this will work Jeno? Your ring doesnât even look real.â You knew the plan was a dumb idea but you always listened to Jeno.Â
Yes, he was your best friend. Yet, you knew he meant more to you. He was one of the most special people you had met. You just couldnât put a finger on what he was to you.
He laughed at you, his infamous eye smile sending butterflies to your stomach. âDonât worry, y/n. I got this. Even prepared my special vows for you.â
You didnât have a response to his sudden confidence, only a blush that scattered your cheeks. When he reached over you to hold the door entrance to the ice cream parlor, your stomach only dropped further into your stomach.
Has Jeno always been this attractive? How had you not noticed how tall he was before?Â
With all the thoughts rushing through your head, you had forgotten the main objective: free ice cream. That was all you were here for, not to develop feelings for your best friend.Â
By the time you had come to your senses, Jeno was propped on his one knee, fake ring in hand.
âY/n l/n.â
Well here goes nothing.
âIâve waited my whole life for this moment. I know itâs not the most romantic but this is where we first met and I developed my love for you. There are so many hours Iâve spent thinking about you, yet they all stemmed from a couple minutes within the walls. I would do anything to spend the rest of my life with you.â He continued on for minutes reciting his script. Never stuttering once, it was as if he was speaking from his heart.
It was safe to say Jeno had a way with his words - even if they all met nothing.
You hadnât realized it yet, but you had fallen in love with Jeno.
When you had finally recognized your feelings for Jeno, it was high school graduation.
In your mind, it was like the weddings that never commenced from your fake engagement. Walking down the same aisle, wearing expensive gowns, celebrating the start of a new chapter in your life.Â
These scenarios would all seem fresh in your head if it wasnât for the fact that Jeno had just begun a relationship with a girl in the year below. All you had known was him for the years prior to graduation. Now, you were clueless as to what would develop as you moved on in your life.
âIâm serious about her. I think Iâm going to stay back a year before I head to college. I really think sheâs the one.â Jeno had told you one of your sleepless nights on the phone.Â
You took a deep sigh, clearly signalling you were not following his ideas. âLook, you have dreamed of moving away for years. Why change your mind for a girl you just met?â
He was clearly losing his patience with you. It was only a matter of time before he snapped after his numerous hours of convincing you he loved her. You would never agree with him, though. As long as he was with someone that wasnât you.
âYou just donât get it. Maybe youâll understand when you finally find someone that loves you.â
When he heard the immediate hanging up of the call, his emotions were too high to apologize. Jeno knew his words hurt you but he wasnât in the right sentence to justify his actions. Time didnât allow him to correct himself either, only progressing through the rest of highschool by never addressing him again.
But here you were at graduation, finding yourself after the ceremony looking for your parents talking to Jenoâs family. He stood beside them, his new girlfriend pressed tightly by his side. When your eyes flickered to make eye contact with him, he reflected a gaze of sorrow. You never returned the sorrow, your gaze only remaining lifeless.
After Jeno had uttered such nonsense to you, you had deemed him as nothing to you. Even if you had recognized your feelings for him, you couldnât keep waiting.Â
When you had finally let go of the petty teenage drama, an invitation to Jenoâs wedding had arrived at your front door.
You had come to the conclusion that you were in love with him. After continuously convincing yourself you needed to get over him, it was becoming more difficult to let your feelings for the boy go unnoticed.Â
With the emotionless response you had given to Jeno after graduation, you had thought your relationship with him was over. And you were proven correct when you found that he had blocked you on every social media platform to ever exist.
You decided it was time to rekindle with your childhood best friend your senior year in college. But to no avail, you still remained blocked and found no new accounts.
So to find the invitation to his wedding - when you had moved far from home and started a new job - was a shocker, to say the least. Even if you hadnât communicated in years, you were still on the backburner.
Now, you find yourself sitting in an assigned seat in the corner. Far away from any of his family, not needing a reason to explain why you had cut off all communication with Jeno, or rather, how he had done such.Â
The only other person sitting by you was his youngest cousin he had always explained as a nuisance at family gatherings. She was sweet and you had told him he needed to treat her nicely considering her young age, but teenage Jeno didnât know better. Even adult Jeno didnât know better.
You had done a good job holding off any conversation for the first hour of the wedding, but you couldnât stand the awkward silence and dwelling going on inside your head anymore.Â
Why had you come just to realize you hated him? You had no clue. All you knew was that you wanted to talk to your best friend. He may not have earned his respect back but it was clear he felt the same way. There is only one reason he would even think to send a wedding invitation your way.
When you finally excuse yourself from the table for a drink, his cousin mutters something under her breath.
âWhat did you say?â Not sure if her words were meant for her.
She looks you in the eye, âWhy did you leave Jeno? He was so happy when he was with you?â
Well clearly she was not in the loop. You dreaded talking about your past with Jeno. But you dreaded even more reminiscing on how close you used to be with him.Â
âMe and Jeno were never together. I have no idea what you're talking about.â You tried to escape but her words only drew you in.
âWell, I know you werenât dating, but you shouldâve. He was so happy with you. He hated me but you made him realize his indifference. Now here you are with me, the least favorite family member, sitting in the back when you deserve to be down the aisle.â
It was clear her words were leading to the verge of your tears. Time was the only thing that stood between your face full of makeup being ruined. Before she could even allow more words to escape from her mouth, you found yourself making a run for the bathroom.Â
You had managed to find a new seat along with some of your high school friends in another far corner. You couldnât face the emotional damage that was Jenoâs cousin. Your friends knew better than to ask any questions about you two, instead opting to treat the experience as a reunion.Â
As much as you didnât want to, you had thought about her words. Did you really have an effect on Jeno?
He never told you he loved you, except in his vows. You remember every syllable that came from his mouth. Most importantly, âI love you.â They werenât real, but they were the closest symbol of reciprocation Jeno had ever given to you.
Even if the words were never truthful, it was only a matter of minutes before you heard his real vows come from his mouth. Watching him walk down the aisle, all you could picture is what your wedding with him wouldâve looked like.
If you had ever told Jeno your real feelings that day. Maybe if you were truthful, maybe if you had listened to his cousin, maybe if you hadnât cut him off, you could be descending down the aisle.Â
Instead, here you are, sitting isolated from your best friend, wondering what he even thinks of you. Does he know that you're here? Did he invite you or had he been forced to by his parents? All this clouds your mind as you watch the bride approach Jeno, joining hand in hand.
Jeno stood tall on the altar. His black suit defines his build. It was obvious that he had grown into his body well since you had last seen him. As he took a deep breath, you knew it was ready for him to begin his vows, for real this time.
âThe love of my life.â
Tears began to blind your vision. You couldnât stand hearing what was about to come from his mouth. All you could make out was the movement of his lips as ringing stormed your ears.Â
If you werenât so scared you wouldâve told him how you felt.Â
If you had been mature you wouldnât have let him give up on his dreams.
If you cared more about yourself you wouldn't have allowed him to let you burn on the backburner after all these years.
If you had listened to his cousin you would understand that you were important to him.
As you watched him slip the ring on to his now wife, you knew time was up. There was no reversing what you hadnât done, only reminiscing on what you couldâve.
Jeno was now no one to you. Just a friend in the past who you would tell others you donât talk to now.
All the years of unreciprocated love would never rekindle. Maybe one thing you shouldâve done was listen to him. âMaybe youâll understand when you finally find someone that loves you.â
It was time to find someone that loved you. Even if it wasnât him.

MARK is the busiest man you know. As his girlfriend, you were perfectly aware of his failure to properly manage all his activities. To him what mattered was staying afloat. Even though your time together was limited due to his schedule, you didnât mind waiting for him to come home at the end of the day. He had made a huge effort to carve out time from his hectic lifestyle to make space for you and this was the most you could ask for. Because of this, time with Mark is valuable. Every second spent with him is thought out with love.
Your birthday is the most overloaded season regarding Markâs schedule. With the demand for new music, constant touring, and endless practices, you didnât expect much for him to surprise you. All that you wished for was at least some time to be spent with your loving boyfriend. But as you sat on the couch the whole day â ignoring requests to hang out with your friends in hopes Mark would pull through, expecting him to come home with a surprise straight from practice â the time was ticking closer to midnight and he was still nowhere to be seen.Â
He was out of the house before he could even wish you a happy birthday. No note was left, breakfast wasnât made, and all the chores were still left unfinished. As far as you knew, Mark hadnât even come home from the previous night. As you sit on the sofa, envious of his bandmates who got to spend the fleeting days with him, you begin to regret waiting for you to matter enough to him. You couldâve spent the whole day catching up with friends, instead, you waited for your boyfriend who didnât even care to send a simple âhappy birthdayâ text.
Waiting got tiring and you only became more pissed. Just as you were about to reach your bed with your tears flowing down your face, you hear Mark enter, sounding exhausted from the dayâs workload.
âBaby, Iâm home,â he called across the apartment, only loud enough to hear from the room you were in.Â
A sliver of you still had hope that he would surprise you with some form of greeting, but as his footsteps clicked closer to your shared bedroom and he had nothing in hand, all the hope had left your body.Â
He sighed as he approached your tired figure, âFalling asleep already?â
It was obvious he didnât even remember what was so special about today. A part of you wanted to slice at his throat for forgetting such an important date. Instead, you opted for peace, already feeling more tears threatened to spill.
âYeah, had a long day.â you uttered, trying not to sound heartbroken. You couldnât gain the courage to confront Mark. All you could do was tuck yourself under the covers and cry yourself to sleep while your loved one went about clueless.
RENJUN wasnât one to open up to others about his feelings. You were the only one that he felt was worthy of sharing his deepest thoughts with. One of his being the fact he always felt distant from his friends. When he moved away from home he had broken a lot of his relationships and had difficulty rebuilding them. When Renjun told you he would be going out this weekend with his friends, you didnât think much of it â other than the fact it was your birthday.
You knew not to become too hopeful when it came to surprises. You werenât a little kid and you were aware that youâll most likely get what you want by just asking. Although you knew this, you still thought that Renjun might possibly surprise you. However, you shouldâve known better.Â
When Renjun arrived home with nothing in his hands but shopping bags and a filled stomach, you knew he had forgotten a date that was so important to you. âRenjun, how was it?â you asked him excitedly, to the best of your abilities.
He smiled as he walked over to your spot on the couch, setting down his bags beside you on the coffee table. âWe had a lot of fun. Had to catch up on lots though, who wouldâve known how much my boys have grown.âÂ
You knew it was wrong to ruin his joy, but you had to get straight to the point. âDid you get anything while you were there?â You didnât acknowledge his rambling about his friends, instead wanted to know if the bags held something for you to make up for his actions.
âYeah, just some new clothes for the summer. They said they wanted to match-â
Before he could even finish his sentence you walked yourself to your room. Getting mad at him would only make matters worse so you did what your best at and removed yourself from the situation.
âWhere are you going?â he asked as he tried to see what you were doing.
You continued to change and gather your belongings, clear what your intentions were. âGoing out. Not wasting my special day waiting for you.â Before he could even process your words, you slammed the door in his face. Renjun knew he fucked up.
JENO is your homebody boyfriend â he loves spending time with you and cozying up in bed. It is rare he got to do so, though, as a lot of hours are filled with his idol lifestyle. He was expected to stay on top of his numerous schedules and manage time with his girlfriend. This is a lot of responsibility for a man like Jeno.Â
You quite honestly didnât expect much from him considering how busy he would be on your birthday. The date happened to fall on a Saturday when they were holding a concert. You were aware he would be extremely tired and might even not have time to hang out with you afterward. The least you expected with for him to send you a birthday greeting but you had received nothing and the concert had already begun.Â
Being the loving girlfriend you were, you had arrived at the concert to support your boyfriend. When the other boys saw you they even made the effort to wish you a happy birthday. All of them but your own boyfriend, the reason you were even hear right now.Â
The stadium was filled to the brim with adolescent teens to elderly couples. This was most definitely not your scene but you wanted to spend your birthday with the one you loved. You had brought your friends along as they also wanted to hang out. Even though you had so many people around you celebrating your life, you couldnât help but feel worthless for not meaning anything to the one you loved most.Â
When the concert ended you had excused yourself from your friends for the night to meet up with Jeno. Pushing yourself backstage was a difficult task after trying to scooch past all the fans and security. As soon as you had managed to locate Jeno backstage, you were told to wait outside by his managers, Jeno making no effort to halt their actions.Â
You waited hours for him to finally exit the dressing room but to no avail, he never came out.Â
âY/n, what are you doing out here?â Jaemin saw you sitting on the bench you had positioned yourself on for the time being.Â
It was silly he was asking such a question, he had to of known why you were here in the first place. âJust waiting for Jeno. Is he almost done?â
Jaemin had a shift of energy as if something had clicked in his mind upon your words. âHe left a while out the back. I can go find him, he probably is still in here. Iâm sorry he didnât come to see you he probably forgot.â
âItâs okay, donât worry about it Nana. Thanks for telling me.â You quickly gathered your belongings before he could even have a chance to comfort you. There was a time and a place for everything and crying in front of him on your birthday was definitely not something you had wished for.Â
You refused to wait for Jeno any longer, he obviously never did the same for you. As you left the stadium all your emotions exited your body. How could someone you love break your heart so terribly?
HAECHAN is a family man at heart. He never failed to mention his siblings in a conversation and made sure to keep up with them when time allowed. This was something that drew you towards your boyfriend. Seeing his love for domesticity made you feel like you had found the man who would lead you in the future.
Funny enough, you had managed to be birthed the same day as his sister he loved so dearly. Obviously, it wasn't a coincidence that he would constantly mention his sisterâs birthday and what he was planning on gifting her. What you did begin to question was his lack of mention of your own special date.Â
It wasnât uncommon for couples to not do much on each otherâs birthdays, but your relationship was Haechan was not typical dating. He cared for you deeply, at least to the extent you thought. Each date was carved to cater to your liking and surprise you each time. You knew your birthday would be an even more special day for him which is why you werenât surprised when you came home on the date with party streamers covering the house and an entourage of his family.
âBaby your home,â Haechan noticed your entrance and shocked face.
You smiled as you embraced him into a tight hug, âThanks for doing this all for me. I love you.â
He laughed at your response, slight confusing you. âItâs my sisterâs birthday, you know how much these days mean to us.â
Even though you were confused by Haechan's response, you did know you were happy he didnât let you down in the end. He never wished you a happy birthday but you were sure a surprise party would make up for it.
As the party ensued and time for cake came, the lights were turned off and Haechan appeared out of the corridor with the candle lit sweet. You were standing next to his sister as you were greeting her a happy birthday. As he approached you with the cake you couldnât help but notice your name was spelt wrong on the cake. Oh wait. It wasnât even your name at all. He had never even remembered your birthday to begin with.
JAEMIN had mentioned your birthday to you on numerous occasions. He loved planning time with you and never failed to make sure each date was tailored to your liking. When he had asked you where you had wanted to dine in on your birthday, you werenât surprised in the slightest by his actions to make sure the day was perfect for you. He had even made sure to pick an outfit for you to match and he already knew what gifts you wanted without asking.
As the days ticked down to the date, Jaemin didnât seem to get any more excited. Typically, he would be all over you explaining the details of how excited he was to spend time with his loving girlfriend. When the day finally turned to be your birthday, you noticed he still was not making an effort to mention your planned date.
âGood morning my love,â Jaemin had greeted as soon as your eyes fluttered awake.Â
You smiled, awaiting the day ahead of you, âWhat have you got on your mind today?â You knew Jaemin would have the whole day planned and wouldnât be able to contain his joy.Â
âJust happy I get to spend time at home with my love this morning. I got to go to practice later, though,â he replied as he pulled you closer under the covers.
You knew Jaemin had mentioned going out so you were surprised by his words. Jaemin wasnât the type to cancel all your plans for work, he was adamant about making time for you. The last thing you had expected was for him to postpone your birthday for something so small.
âCanât you just miss practice today?â You questioned slightly agitated. As much as you know work is important to him, it felt right to at least be somewhat selfish of your time with him.Â
âNo can do. You know these are a non-negotiable.âÂ
You could tell he was taken aback by your response. He had just wanted to make the most of his day with you before he had gone to practice, and who were you to avoid wishes. You could accept his business for at least an effort to make time for you.Â
As you spent the fleeting moments with Jaemin, you couldnât help but notice nothing about your day was going as planned. No presents were awaiting you at the table, not a single of your favorite meals was dished up by your favorite chef, and no greeting was uttered out of his mouth.Â
The day had continued on as normal until he left for practice. Maybe he would bring you the gifts and dinner when he got back? Much to your dismay, he arrived home in the same state he was in before, just much more tired.Â
As he tucked himself into bed next to you, you couldnât help but feel the need to ask him about the change in his attitude. But before you could even question him, he gave you the answer you were searching for. âI feel like I forgot about something today.â
Damn right, you had forgotten something Na Jaemin.
CHENLE was never one to back down from an argument. He always made sure he was right even if it meant hurting others along the way, including his own girlfriend. Because of his ungodly ego, you two got into numerous fights. It was a red flag but he always managed to earn your forgiveness. His love language was gift giving and he never failed to surprise you with the most extravagant items.Â
Most of your fights would end within a few hours, but this was different. You two had been arguing about his lack of care regarding setting aside time for you. He was busy, but so was everyone else in the world â he is perfectly capable of putting in the extra effort yet he lacks to do so.Â
With your birthday on the rise, you had expected him to forgive you relatively quickly. Instead, you two had still not spoken a word since the day of your fight into your birthday. You were aware Chenle was stubborn, but you couldnât believe he was this difficult.Â
You shouldâve taken the warning from others about your toxic habits. Even though time was running out you still felt like Chenle would end up pulling through. He always refused to bite the bullet and message you first, so this time you wanted to see how long it would take him to come crawling back. When it took multiple days, you knew he wouldnât be speaking to you anytime soon.
Y/n: what the fuck is your problem
Y/n: do you even know what today is?
Chenle: was waiting for you to finally apologize
Chenle: whatâs so special about today
Y/n: itâs my birthday
You couldnât believe that Chenle would be so adamant about his stance he would even forget your own birthday. When you saw the bubbles appear indicating him typing his response, you didnât pay any mind to it. Protecting your peace, you powered off your phone and chose silence to celebrate the remaining of your day.
When you heard a knock on your door no longer than 30 minutes after texting Chenle, you knew it had to be him. But you had no room left in you to listen to his excuses. If he wanted to prove himself, he shouldâve done so before.
JISUNG was never the type to put his best friend over you. He always ensured you were his number one priority and his numerous date nights made you guarantee this. His best friend since childhood happened to be extremely possessive of him. Her intentions were clear, but your boyfriend was always too oblivious to notice.Â
There were multiple occasions where she had uttered the most absurd comments to your face. Time and time again, Jisung had never stood up for you. You should have taken this as a red flag but you knew your boyfriend loved you dearly â who were you to let a random girl get in your way?
Your birthday was around the corner and Jisung had not yet mentioned any plans regarding the day. He had mentioned a couple of things in the past but nothing that stuck out recently. When the day of your birthday arrived, the atmosphere remained the same.Â
You had mentioned to him you were going to spend the day out with your friends and he didnât question it. Before you could leave the house, he was already out for the day, not giving you a chance to even greet him good morning. It was odd for him to be out so early but you knew better than to think so deeply into it.Â
When you arrived home you had noticed another car in the driveway â his best friendâs car. You were never one to be selfish but spending time with her on your birthday was the last thing you would ever wish for.Â
You had still not received any messages from Jisung and you were starting to grow more concerned. Before you could enter your shared apartment, you were immediately greeted by the girl you wished to avoid.
âAbout time you showed up,â she eyed you head to toe, shutting the door behind you.
Her attitude never failed to surprise you. Nevertheless, you still played into her tricks, âIâm just getting back from the mall. You know, celebrating my birthday.â
She laughed at your comment, âOh, poor Jisung must have forgotten. He hasnât mentioned you all day.â She didnât even offer any explanation as she pushed past you to exit the building, smirking on her way out.
You were aware she was a snarky bitch but you couldnât believe she had the courage to make up such a lie. A part of you wanted to push past the door and confront your boyfriend and the other wanted to go after her like she was your prey.Â
Even though anger fumed your vision, you couldnât confront Jisung in such a way. Instead, you left and opted to spend a girl's night out. Little did you know Jisung was waiting on the other side of the door with your cake in hand.
