When you feel lost and helpless,
Looking into the void around you,
Wondering,
“Which way do I walk?
Which path do I take?
How do I get back,
To the place I call home?”
When you feel alone and afraid,
I’ll say a prayer for you, my dear,
Hoping that, on ethereal wings,
My prayer will reach you,
And guide you.
A light in the void,
To draw you back home.
And so,
After a while,
You might find your way back home,
Opening the door,
Only to realize that I’m not there anymore.
Let me stop you there so I can say:
It’s ok to be alone.
You were ok before me,
And after me…?
Well, you’ll be ok again I’m sure.
The Lonesome should be greeted,
Like an old friend,
But perhaps not willingly.
I know I don’t like to greet him,
But I also know that he’s familiar,
He’s a companion through life,
And there’s no reason to avoid him.
Maybe, each time you come home,
You’ll see that there’s no one waiting for you,
Maybe, you’ll say a prayer for me too.
And if you’re lucky,
Then on those very same,
Ethereal wings of light,
Your prayer will make its way to me,
To call me home, just as mine did for you.
Hopefully,
Next time,
You’ll be there to greet me,
Like an old friend.
But for now?
I open my arms, and embrace the void.
