Burnt toast black esb brewin up
Dear loyal readers, I haven't really posted much on tumblr lately. I took a life break. But if you're still following me, I'd like to contribute more to your tumbling experience again. Also, please check out my new Bay Area focused music blog, if that's your thing. The focus is to give you concert reviews from the perspective of your friend who went to the show you couldn't attend. I'll try to post more things to tastr as well. Elliot
San Francisco's love of Fernet has spread to even those so poor they can only afford tiny shooters.

coachella thoughts
some thoughts:
FRIDAY:
Tokyo Ska @ 1pm, since early crew were the only kids expressing interest, i'm gonna guess they're the only ones who get to tell the tales...
after that i guess i could get it up for johnny marr (and i will), but that's not until 4:15. someone encourage me to go early or i'll be looking for a pool party.
if i hoofed like mauricio, i'd def do polica, aesop, marr, divine fits, japandroids, alt-j. thats where it gets tricky. thinking ahead i'd say passion pit, local natives, modest mouse, beach house, yeah yeah yeahs, band of horses, blur, foals, stone roses. but i wish i had the balls to say four tet, dj harvey, wolfgang, troxler, earl. ugh. two different lives to live, if i went two weeks, this might be my plan.
SATURDAY:
how hilarious is that danny brown and baauer are touring together yet playing during the exact time slot.
if you were at a smaller music festival, say treasure island, and this is what one stage looked like: 2 chainz
bat for lashes
major lazer
grizzly bear
simian mobile disco
franz ferdinand
new order
would you
a. be hella confused

Just another march down Valencia street. It's starting to feel a lot like college around here. But all joking aside, this was a march to protest(?) that violent attempted rape in the mission the other day. It is scary to be a woman. I was gonna say "these days," but when hasn't it?

The Mimosa Report West of Pecos If you've been keeping track, Valencia has been inundated with new restaurants in the past year. In the bay area, if you're young and rich, or pretend to be, then dining out at trendy restaurants is just what you do. It's awesome for those of is who work in the service industry, I am very grateful for the employment. For all the refurbished storefronts and recently white table clothes lining the street, there is a downside. Longtime stalwart of the fancy mission dining scene, at least in relative terms, Bar Bambino recently closed due to its distance from the main dining street, Valencia. While the location certainly was a little out of the way, increase competition was surely to blame. But that's not really all that bad, the restaurant scene should evolve. But what's really sad about many of these new restaurants is that they lack anything remarkable or noteworthy. The problem isn't that Valencia has basically become a giant outdoor food court, but that some spots are starting to aesthetically resemble those suburban palaces of mediocrity. Take West of Pecos, for example. From the moment you open the large door and enter, you may as well be at BJs. The bland decor is almost as uninspired as the tex/mex cuisine. I could easily see a blended margarita machine fitting in comfortably behind the bar. The windows always bothered me from the outside, and even more so from the inside: giant window panes that just don't make sense with the theme of the restaurant. Which reminds me, it acts like a theme restaurant. Many other new restaurants on Valencia engage you with a self confident modern and sensible design regardless of cuisine. West of Pecos looks like a conference room dressed up for a western themed birthday party. The service matched the careless decor. We were one of only a couple tables in the restaurant, yet we were left alone for much of our meal. And to make matters worse, my mimosa came in a glass that literally had black spot inside of it. Not just a little, either. I'm not a squirmy bitch about these things, but that is truly gross. I ordered another and while I can't be certain it was the same glass, I am sure that I saw the bartender dump the mimosa into a different glass and send it back. Really? The food was pretty bland for what should have been spicy. This place lacks anything worth remembering, to be brutally honest. They should call it West of Lane Bryant or something more appropriate. Zero stars.
