Stephan Sinding: 'Adoration' (1903)
The more damaged your nervous system, the more intensity you need in order to feel something; this means a lot of drama in relationships, constant overthinking, chasing highs, picking fights just to feel connected, confusing chaos for chemistry and mistaking anxiety for love
When your baseline is dysregulated, calm feels boring. Safe feels unfamiliar. Stability feels like something is missing. So you unconsciously look for hot and cold dynamics, mixed signals, emotional rollercoasters, big reactions, big apologies, big passion. Because your body is craving stimulation
And the problem is the more you feed it intensity, the more numb you become to normal, healthy connection. Your threshold keeps rising. It’s like needing louder music just to feel the beat
Real healing looks boring at first. It looks like consistency. It looks like someone texting back normally. It looks like not having to decode everything. It looks like your heart rate staying steady. But that “boring” is actually your nervous system learning safety. Once you regulate, you don’t crave chaos anymore. You crave peace. And peace starts to feel powerful instead of empty
we need to bring back the simple art of just “come to my house and we hang out without an activity or pretense or meal” my friend hung out on my couch for seven hours today we just gabbed… no specific plans no activities involved. likeee let’s just hang out on my couch forever and ever amen
