"You can begin again as many times as you need to" is so comforting.
Iâm not the woman I was a few years ago or even a year ago but I still like to hold her hand and remind her she did her best with what she knew
Any time you feel like youâre behind (especially if youâre in your 20s, but this applies to literally anyone) just look yourself in the mirror and be like âboo hoo you didnât peak when u were 17. So sad. Whatever shall u doâ and I promise u will instantly feel so silly for ever worrying about it
âDo it scaredâ âdo it aloneâ are all great tips, but my biggest takeaway from therapy is do it messy. This is especially true if youâre getting out of a burnout, which I experience often. Literally just do it messy. You donât need to pick the perfect trail to walk, the perfect playlist to listen to, whatever the fuck it is. You donât need to have a meticulous to do list and wake up at the exact time you planned and drink the exact amount of water you planned to drink. Like the biggest thing for people like me to remember is sometimes itâs okay to do it messy. Put on a random yt workout and just get it done in sweats. Do 5 minutes of a daunting task and go from there. Sometimes just getting up is a win during intense burnouts or depressive funks. Literally just do it messy.
Iâm a stem grad student & my first semester was rough. When I was in undergrad I did not struggle at all, sailed through with perfect time management skills. But burnout is rough, especially burnout during grad school. I was contending with an intense course load and a lot of family things at the time. Things I found easy, like maintaining a meticulous schedule, compartmentalizing, working out, all became mountains to climb in a way I wasnât used to. And my therapistâs advice was just to get back into it by doing it messy. Journal random thoughts when I feel like it, just do a random yt workout in sweats. Itâs not pilates and itâs not me showing up with my pink bottle and matching set, but itâs still something done. And thatâs okay. Itâs not worth any less just because itâs not âpretty.â Itâs still something. And if thatâs what helps people accomplish things, it matters more than anything else. Do it messy. Do it messy is always better than donât do it at all.
He's going to solve this like we saved the fucking whales
In an era of climate anxiety, a Dutch nonprofit is developing river-based technology that could dramatically cut ocean plastic within decade
âThe world needs a success story. There is a lot of pessimism, a lot of fatalism, especially among people of my generation,â Slat told the Times. âBut if we can say, âThere was a time when the oceans were filled with plastic, that two thirds of the planet was polluted, and then we solved itâ â I think that will be a case of action inspiring action.
âbits to use in everyday conversationsâ
âscientists donât want you knowâ is a phrase that always cracks me up because if you actually meet a scientist they will be shaking and crying like an overstimulated chihuahua with the need to let you know
For those who have missed it, a tourist in Hawaii decided it would be fun to chuck a rock (a BIG rock) at a monk seal. He missed, but he was captured on video, and when told it was illegal to interfere with them, said "I'm rich, I can pay the fine."
Is the best part that he got doxxed? No.
Is the best part that he got tracked down by a local and beaten? No.
Arrested on state at federal charges, looking at up to 5 years and 50K? Nope.
The best part is the local city council's reaction.
And the best part of that is the look on the attorney's face.
More of this please, everywhere.
After the incident, another video went viral showing what appeared to be that man getting a beating. The Maui Police Department said they had no record of any reports of disorderly conduct or assault related to the monk seal incident.
Even the local police are being cool about this.
This is what's so fucked up about "nothing that requires the labor of others is a human right".
The labor is already being done under capitalism. The laborers are already being underpaid under capitalism.
When you propose removing the greedy profiteers and paying the workers a reasonable wage, people call that "slavery" while they have no problem with the current system.
They're not even trying to make sense.
