It was almost fortuitous —- Mia was in the biography section (not because she had any desire to read about most people’s lives, but because she wanted to be in the music section and some loudmouth was in her way), and then, just as she scanned her eyes over a book from one of the French wixen figure skaters, she spotted Tate. Pausing her plan to tell the loudmouth to shut up and move the fuck out of her way, she moved around the biography shelf and came up near him. “Hey stranger,” she drawled, glancing at the shelf he was looking at. “Is this for the supply list or just personal reading?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
he doesn’t jump when mia comes up to him in flourish and blotts (because the only jumping tate beckett does is 20 inches off of ice with skates on his feet) but mia didn’t have to be so goddamn sneaky. he rolled his eyes but slung an arm around the other slytherin, “well that depends milly, did you pass your O.W.L on the history of figure skating in wizarding london?” he asked glancing down at the selection he had: some autobiography of some wix skater. “because if you did then yes, absolutely.”

hi wow !!! so excited to share tate with y’all !!! even though im rolling up late to the party !!!
GENERAL:
so tate beckett, born mateo lópez but goes by tate, as it’s what he’s registered under as in the ISU (international skating union), his grandmother insisting on keeping the beckett figure skating legacy alive (but also lowkey highkey trying to push his dad out of the picture)
he is half mexican-american & half european
tate is a pairs figure skater and not as clumsy as i made him seem with that top gif (but how could i not use tht gif ?? green sweater ?? skating rink?? perfection)
he tries so hard, to be someone his parents can be proud of despite them already being so proud of him.
he leads with his heart always, he is such an emotional messy boy. he feels things very intensely, which is a blessing and a curse.
he is a hard worker. it frustrates him greatly when he isn’t successful at something, and maybe, even more, when others are without putting any effort in.
he is a bi baby, and was head over heels in love with his muggle skating partner and when she not only did not reciprocate but even further wanted to find a new partner it broke his heart
so summer is all about getting back on his feet, finding a new stride and a new skating partner
CONNECTIONS:
best friend(s): when tate first arrived to hogwarts he was more then lost, but being the emotional open person he is i don’t think it would be too hard for him to find his tribe early on and really stick with them through the past 5 years at hogwarts (they can be from any year too!)
confident: someone who tate feels like he can tell everything, who he can let all his walls down around
tutor: even though he tries really hard to get good grades they always seem to elude him, he probably would have this tutor from at least fifth year if not fourth
old hookups: tate didn’t necessarily get around but this connection is open to like, anyone and however many soo
