After all, this meant it was all true and that none of them would be leaving the palace until they were all wed… As if she had been reading his mind, Tatia voiced his question aloud. Turning to her he said, “I wouldn’t be surprised it took months, maybe even a year. Rumor has it some royals aren’t even betrothed just yet so…”

          ‘ yeah, that’s my point. up until now i think most of us couldn’t really grasp the idea properly ... but now, look around, you can read it on people’s faces. ’     she said before sipping on her glass, then looked back at juanes as he spoke.     ‘ i think they’ll leave cooldown time in between weddings and in that case, it seems we’ll be here for a long time. but that shouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing, yes ? ’

“Eager for your shot in the white dress?” Gareth chuckled, turning to face the other. He wasn’t sure how he felt about his own upcoming nuptials, but he could at least enjoy this one.

          ‘ even though i actually am excited to be betrothed to my match, i hope i won’t be wearing the white dress soon. the longer we get to spend before tying the knot, the more natural it’d feel, right ? ’     she said with a smile, raising an eyebrow in question.

“Hmm.” Klarisza hummed at the comment, taking a sip of champagne as she turned to the other. “Hopefully not too long.” She wasn’t exactly eager for her own wedding, in fact she was still trying to work through the emotions that had surfaced at seeing Mateo, but she was eager to go home. “Although it would be better if we could just go home.” 

          ‘ oh ? ’     tatiana hummed as she looked at the other, eyebrows raised in curiousity.     ‘ not too fond of your match or just the whole thing in general ? ’     she asked before waving a hand quickly.     ‘ that is, if it’s not rude of me to ask. ’     she said before taking a sip of her own champagne.     ‘ i know for some it’s all politics and they’d rather not say anything about their arrangements and all. ’

She didn’t know the couple, she didn’t really know anyone yet, as she had recently arrived, but she had spoken to Tatiana before so she wasn’t all in all a stranger.”That is a good question” she said with a nod” do you have a betrothed one yet?” she then wondered curiously

          ‘ so it really begins, huh. ’     she said as she looked over the guests, the decorations and all, a small smile on her face. she wasn’t sure how to feel about this one exactly, as she didn’t know if the couple could at least get along but she hoped for the best.     ‘ i wonder how long it will take for all of us to be married and ready to go home. ’

“That’s the spirit! My math tutor used to say, ‘shoot for the moon, even if you fail, you’ll land among the stars’,” Juanes shared. “Obviously the logistics behind that aren’t all that alluring, but the face-value sentiment is what they were really selling.” He’d come to find that out when he pointed out said logistics while in front of some of his siblings and had been reprimanded for the younger ones’ nightmares later… At her reaction to his knowledge of body disposal, he opened his mouth to explain, but ended up just closing it with a slight click as she mentioned buzzfeed, and nodded instead. “Buzzfeed Unsolved! Yes, those are great by the way. If not for the fact that many aren’t quite suitable for after dinner viewing, I might even suggest that we start there,” he replied with ease. He followed her back, and as she set the salad in the middle, he went about swapping out the dino-nuggets with their pasta -though not before taking a dino off the plate and biting the head off. At her announcement that dinner was saved, he nodded his head as he chewed the chicken in his mouth and muttered, “Yes - dinner. Yum.”

          ‘ that’s one inspirational quote. maybe we could have something like, uh - an achievements corner in our new house when we do move in somewhere and at the top this quote is painted on the wall among DIY glittery stars ? ’     she entertained herself, and well her fiance, with the idea, a small grin on her face. while this was not a serious talk of their future life or place yet, such idea of having a place of stuff they will possibly have achieved together made her heart warm.     ‘ i’ve never watched it -- maybe we could ? that is if you’d be down to do a rewatch as i assume by your reaction, you’ve already watched before ? ’     she asked, more like offered, as she wanted to spend more time getting to know him and hang out before their eventual wedding. maybe, just maybe, hers could be a fairytale too. one filled with chicken nuggets, she added to her thoughts as she chuckled at him go for the nuggets first.     ‘ you just murdered that dino. ’     she remarked as she sat down, pouring them the red wine she had chosen beforehand, then raised it his way before taking a sip from her glass.     ‘ bon appetit. ’

“Well, I can’t promise it’ll quite be considered ‘hip’, I can definitely share all of my pop-culture knowledge with you,” he said with a small laugh. “That may or may not be true, but I’m up for the challenge,” Juanes said with wink. The topic may have been Tatia learning nerd things, but his promise extended to their marriage as whole. Just because neither had a say in who they got to marry, didn’t mean that they had to live out the rest of their lives in misery. Considering how well they were already getting along, he was hopefully for the future. “In that case, don’t forget the plastic sheets, the bleach, and the lye,” he added. Juanes wasn’t necessarily proud of knowing the basics to disposing of a body, but even as a Prince there was only so much that could be done to avoid the rampant violence in major parts of Colombia…Scooping up both of their plates, he said, “I’d be honored to join you at such a finely set table. Lead the way, and I shall follow.”

          ‘ that’s fine even if we don’t achieve the hip. at least we’ll be able to say whe tried, then, yes ? ’     she said, thinking that is just what juanes would say if the roles were reversed. a little bit of his optimism rubbed on her wasn’t so bad, she figured out. it actually felt light -- like life wasn’t all about politics and duties for them. she chuckled softly after he winked and shook her head.     ‘ well, you knowing all that isn’t concering one bit. ’     she said with a grin.     ‘ though i would not blame you if you were a crime investigations lover. one of my siblings is totally obsessed with all those -- buzzsomething unsolved stuff. ’     she said before tipping her head politely. once they got to her room, she walked in first and set the salad in the middle of the table.     ‘ one second, ’     she said before lighting the candles again, then turned around and fixed her short red dress.     ‘ alright -- dinner saved. ’

His smile somehow only grew bigger as she mentioned this. It was true that his heart ached for the childhood she must’ve had to have been deprived of such things, but he tried to focus on the positive: “Then I guess that just means I’m lucky enough to get to relive all of my favorite pop-culture stuff anew through your eyes.” Juanes was quick to add, “Well, I mean, like, if you’d like to, of course. I’m not going to like force my nerdiness on you.” He scrunched up his face at the alternate reason for divorce discussed. “You know, I’d like to say that I hope none of my siblings are party in any those divorces, but knowing them, some may end up being the offending party…” His facial expression was clearly overly comical, and his tone was pure jest, but a little part of him believed it to be true. Though he had just dropped the pasta into the pan with the sauce, he stepped away so he could reach her and give her a high-five. “Nice! Now we know we have a topic in common to start off,” he said, before turning back to finish the dish. Squeezing some lemon onto the tops of both dishes, he brought the plates over to the small island along with some cutlery he’d found. “Dinner is served,” he said with a grin.

          ‘ what now, you are willing to teach me how to be ... uh - hip ? ’     she asked with her eyebrows raised, though a grin was quick to come across her lips.     ‘ i’m not gonna lie, that’s likely to be quite the challenge on your part but i would love to learn from you. ’     she finished with a genuine smile, the thought of being able to learn and do all those silly things with her future husband quite exciting to her. in all honesty, she had been expecting a dull, cold marriage for politics but ... this was taking such a turn at heart.     ‘ well, guess we will have to keep a shovel nearby at all times at home, because mine are none better. ’     she sighed, unlike him, completely serious on the murder tendencies of some of her many siblings. when he served their dinner, tatiana frowned and began to work more quickly, finishing it off with some lemon and olive oil, hoping that’d be enough.     ‘ i’m done here as well. ’     she smelled the pasta, grinning.     ‘ now that’s a proper dinner. shall we head back to my room ? unlike the dish, i believe i did a good job with the table itself. ’

At her clear confusion, Juanes just grinned at her and said, “Don’t worry about it. It’s a thing with these American books…it wasn’t that funny.” He couldn’t help but laugh at the idea of it all before turning to look at her and say, “Well, if ever there were to be a royal that wound up divorced over food, it’s highly likely that it would be me.” As he turned back to the stove and began prepping the ingredients for the simple sauce to the side of it, he filed away her response to the dish. He’d have to make sure to make it again at some point. “Good,” he said with emphasis, before turning to glance at her over his shoulder, “Because it was meant to be one. Determination is an admirable trait.”  Juanes chuckled at her comment and said, “You’re such a Hermione.” Adopting an English accent he added, “We could’ve gotten killed, or worse. Expelled.” Laughing lightly at himself for such an atrocious impression, he answered, “My eating habits are horrible because my best friend’s eating habits are horrible, and the only allergies I have are to hornets, so I think you’re good.”

          ‘ oh please -- i’m sure it was funny. it’s just ... i never really had time for games and all that funny stuff growing up. as well as the latest trend - memes, yes ? ’     pronouncing the word wrong with a thick russian accent, tatiana smiled obliviously, aware that she probably looked like an alien to him but she wanted to be honest rather than acting like she knew what was hip and then failing.     ‘ well, at least it’d be for something innocent. i’m sure there’ll be a few attempted murder divorces among us royals. ’     she lightly joked before tipping her head politely at him, smile softening into a genuine one.     ‘ oh trust me, i’m nothing if not determined. ’     and that she was. softly gasping and pointing her index finger at him, the russian then grinned.     ‘ i understood that reference ! ’     a proud, smug grin on her face, she continued with the salad as she nodded.     ‘ alright, copy that. ’

“Is that an odd Russian way of calling me chicken soup?” he asked with a dubious look on his face, that lasted all of two seconds before it gave way to his usual grin. “Oh, we will definitely have shared custody of the pancakes, but the bagels are all yours,” he offered, still moving around the kitchen. “I was thinking of a little spaghetti aglio e olio,” he said, already getting the water started for the pasta. Luckily it seemed the kitchen had some fresh pasta on hand so it should be long. “I trust your abilities with the salad, but I also trust that if someone wanted to set fire to rain while making one, you’d find the way to do it,” he chuckled, recalling how stubborn she had been the night they originally met.

          ‘ i uh -- Зачем ? i mean, i don’t think i’m following ... ’     tatia said with an apologetic look on her face, lips pursed to indicate further that she did not get the reference. at his next remark, though, she raised a brow playfully.    ‘ then i say we better keep ourselves well stocked in pancake batter. a divorce over food would not look so good now. ’     she joked with a soft chuckle, beginning to rinse the vegetables.     ‘ lovely. ’     she responded, that was one of her favorites. finally setting everything she got on the tray in order to chop them, she huffed at his words.     ‘ i take that as a compliment, mendoza. ’     she replied before turning to him once more.     ‘ before i accidentally kill you or worse, make you hate me, ’     she said playfully,      ‘ what are your eating habits and any allergies i should know of ? ’

Juanes gave a small shrug as a shy grin came over his face at her words. “I just think the world is already full of so much bad, and too many pessimists not really willing to do anything about it. I try not to be one more,” he said. He briefly thought about his home, and how he might be able to do so much more for Colombia if he were the crown royal, but alas…he was just a kid the regents took in. Juanes was brought back to the moment as Tati reacted to the idea of cereal, and he couldn’t help but offer a little bow at having guessed her least favorite in one. “Guess that just means more cereal for me then,” he grinned. Juanes set about going through the different pantries and refrigerators looking for ingredients and an idea of what to cook. “They’re easily handled, little golden chunks of chicken shaped like dinosaurs,” he said excitedly as he carried stuff over to the island in the middle. “Like, what’s not to like? Oh- speaking of like, are you okay with pasta?”

          ‘ that’s ... refreshing. ’     tatiana commented, a soft, genuine smile on her face. surely, that was not something she was used to hear. but he deserved more credit than that, so she looked back at him again.     ‘ you are good for the soul, mendoza. ’     she said before picking some salad ingredients, likely one thing she could not possibly ruin, at least she could do the chopping and leave the rest for him.     ‘ definitely more cereal for you. i’ll take the pancakes and bagels, please. ’     she grinned before setting the items onto a cutting tray, then looked back at him.     ‘ pasta is always appreciated. thinking of any sauce with it or you like it plain ? ’     she questioned -- might as well get to know his favorites while spending time cooking.     ‘ i think i’ll handle the salad, at least i can’t possibly burn this, eh ? ’

“ Hey, do you want a cupcake?” Astrid offered, holding a plate of pink cupcakes up to them. She had on a pink apron and a pink bandanna to keep her hair out of the way.  IT did however not keep the flour away from her nose so to say.

          ‘ that’s an offer i can’t refuse. ’     she referenced with a grin before picking a cupcake off the plate and holding off on diving right into it as she took notice of the flour on her nose.     ‘ oh -- there’s a bit of, um, accident right there. ’     she pointed at her own nose, smiling.

Juanes just gave her a look somewhere between admiration and trepidation. “Wow, the kitchens here have been through quite a bit, so if you’d successfully managed to take one out of commission, I’d have been concerned for your safety but also properly impressed,” he teased, with a soft smile. As they approached the kitchens, he held up his free hand in surrender, “Okay, okay. My bad, it just seemed that you were so upset over dino nuggets being the only thing you found, but now I know you’re less likely to turn down a bowl of cereal.” At what he assumed was her attempt at threat all Juanes could say was, “I’d be the happiest prince in all the palace.”

          ‘ you keep me in awe with your optimism everyday, you know. ’     she commented with a genuine smile, now cheered up thinking that if her future was going to be like that with him around, she would actually be looking forward to it.     ‘ but perhaps don’t make burning down a kitchen sound so tempting like that, now. ’     she chuckled, shaking her head as they entered the kitchen, the same one that she shamefully made the chicken nuggets.     ‘ no. wait, no -- still no to cereal. that’s probably one food i hate and you found it. ’     she gave him a playful applaud before raising a brow.     ‘ oh ? you just like nuggets that much ? ’     she questioned before walking over to the fridge.
