Summer Internships at the Taubman
Internships are a great way to gain experience, expand knowledge, and explore something new of interest. The Taubman Museum of Art internship program offers all of these aspects for furthering education, and more. While interning, there are multiple departments you can work with. Some of the intern positions include working with development, curatorial, marketing, education, and special events. The Taubman is very flexible with schedules and part-time and full-time positions are available.
Our internship program is unique because we let you decide what YOU would be interested in doing, and try our best to meet those needs. We try to offer many opportunities for interns to learn about all aspects of art and museum function. One way we try to make things fun, while teaching is by going on field trips and meeting people within the art field or museum industry with all the interns.
Some examples of adventures interns have been on this summer are visiting the Center in the Square and getting a tour with Julee Goodman, the V.P. of Development. She spoke about her job in development, and information on the museums and attractions. Pictured below are the interns hanging out in the new pinball museum at Center in the Square and standing on their rooftop balcony.
Another opportunity the interns experienced was traveling to famous local artist Erik Fitzpatrick’s home and studio. We were able to learn about what it takes to be a thriving artist in this area. Also pictured are the interns in Erik Fitzpatrick’s studio and home garden.
In addition to traveling places outside of the museum, interns also get to discover departments within the museum that they otherwise would not be exposed to. For example they were able to go into the vault with Mary LaGue (Museum Registrar) to learn about how to care for the different works of art. They were also able to speak with Amy Moorefield, Deputy Director of Collections & Exhibitions about curating a show! Finally, they took a tour with the Special Events Manager, Crystal Padley. She gave the interns a tour and a sneak peak of what it would be like to work in special events. Pictured below are the interns in the vault and them working to curate their own show.
The Taubman offers unique individually designed internships year round! We are willing to work with your schedule and requirements for your school.
