ABOUT.

cornelius chicane - human college of valor bard, cursed with bad luck.

cornelius is a traveling college of valour bard who has been just about every person imaginable. he's been wherever his fiddle could take him; from pirate ships to the grand courts of nobility, he has seen all and been all. he has lived a thousand lives, reinvented himself time and time again, but despite what he says, it has not fully been by his own free will. a persistent curse of bad luck and ill-fated coinsidences bestowed upon him by a wronged creature of the feywild looms ever present, sending his life crashing down like a house of cards when he least expects it. he's finally back on his feet in baldur's gate when he's kidnapped by mindflayers (he shouldn't be surprised) and infected with a tadpole that will, eventually, turn him into one of them (of course this would happen to him). here's to hoping it will at the very least make for a good song.

on the topic of cornelius and lucais i need it to be known that cece still writes haunting odes to him like he is the embodiment of sad divorced dad rock.

ohhh thinking about cece having this stage persona that he hides behind because not letting anyone get to know him means running no risk of rejection. he knows people do not stick around once they figure out that his curse is their potential ruin at every turn. but, if he hasn't let them get to know him, then it is not him that has been deemed not worth the trouble by their leaving him behind. you can't reject what you haven't been offered, so he doesn't offer his true self. people get the smiling jester, an aloof old man with detached politeness, an act.

cece keeps the party at a distance at first because it's just another misfortune and he's out of fucks to give. the thing is that he maintains that distance later on, despite having grown fond of them, because he has grown fond of them; because he does not want them to piece together that nothing seems to go right when he's around. thinking about the potential of cece opening up, starved for true companionship. thinking about the party getting to know him, not just the act. im ILL.
