You can tell my parents are conservative by their indifference towards glaringly obvious persistant problems that they won't even let me try to fix.

They're just fine with hearing metal scraping against metal for hours. Instead of buying a 30$ gallon of dry lubricant for the appliance.

We've had a trash can in a cupboard for years that you have to touch with your hands to pull out everything you throw something away. We have drawer tracks. I could build a mechanism to make it sanitary. But nooooooooo, we cant install hardware to the house they own.

Ofc the rare occasion we use ac is when our house is filled with vocs. I cant afford to lose braincells. At least not this way

My family does things that are objectively dangerous if the other option is uncomfortable or inconvinent. They just installed new carpet downstairs and refuse to ventilate the area for 24-72 hours, when the voc off-gassing is the worst. They are literally killing their braincells. This kind of reckless behavior makes me think that they are all undereacting.
